@@SamuelNaldi they have skills, it is clear, but ugliness is ugliness and unfortunately Montegrappa creates a lot of ugliness as well and they want to be paid for it.
Why is high artistry considered ridiculous? If it’s the price they have lesser cost options. I couldn’t afford this but I certainly appreciate the artistic value and creativity of such a piece.
The Lamy Dialog 3 is one of my hot loves of fountain pens. The way how the seal closes in the Montblanc reminds me very much of the mechanism of the Dialog 3. Very nice, not really original by Montblanc, but a nice and well made copy. Overall I am swinging between the James Dean 99 is ugly and not worth a touch to if there was a Montblanc that has some chance to catch my interest it would be this James Dean 99. I guess it is like the other Writers and Famous Characters Editions more of a sculpture than a functional writing instrument but I haven't had the opportunity and probably will never have one to check that out. If I had to bet I would say that they are made for sitting untouched in their collectors' boxes and that we wouldn't see any of that edition in use.
Hi Andreas, thanks for sharing your feedback and opinion. Indeed the idea of the capless is similar to Dialog 3 or Stipula Da Vinci, to name a few. (Maybe even a Pilot Capless) however having had all of these pieces in stock, i felt like the whole is more than the sum of its parts. Which means that already the fact that it looks like a switchblade and then almost opens up like a switchblade, while being also very functional, even when it comes to the filling part (let’s not forget this is a Piston 🤯) , all of this makes it to me a real uncomparable jewel. I have sold the piece by now, so really no reason to overhype it… however some pieces can only be understood when seen live. I tried my best presenting it here on the Video. Thank you once again for your exhaustive opinion and feedback. It is very valuable for the community.
I felt like the rest of the James Dean line was a bit lame, but this 99 was really perfect. That said, I own every Petit Prince, a Saint Exupery, a Kipling, a Napoleon, and an ATW80, but it has started to bother me to learn they don't make any arrangements with the family or foundation of the person they are tributing. I hope some day they rectify that in future models.
This is decadant and not in a good way, they have lost the functionality of the pen and made art. Which is fine and good, but it’s now just a piece that will never be used. A car is meant to be driven, a marvelous meal is meant to be eaten. But I know so many of these will be made and sit to collect dust
On the contrary, we are finally discovering the art of Penmaking and their functionality thanks to such pieces that go beyond everything. Wheter one that has the money to buy it uses it or not, it’s his own decision and it shouldn’t be judged. Many hypercars and even some exotiv cars cannot be used daily. So? Should they stop producing them? As long as there is a demand, there shall be a supply. Nothing decadent about it. There are pens meant to be used daily, there are pens meant to be collected.
@@SamuelNaldi we aren’t discovering it, the art has existed for a long time, art has a purpose and a goal. Even the art that sits on walls have a purpose. This is just to be collected. Your example doesn’t fit, those hyper cars that are used at all, fit a purpose. To be shown off, to be admired. Many of these pens will stay in a box and just collect dust, because the value of them are so extreme.
@@SamuelNaldi and I am still entitled to my opinion as are you. You can’t prove it’s not a waste while swaying my opinion. I’m a function person, you are a hobbyist. These pens are beautiful to see but to say that any person will ever get to admire them up close and personal is nil. Art locked away and sealed away is terrible, just ask any artists who makes it. This wasn’t made to be that it was meant to earn more from never being touched. Or else why didn’t you write with it? Because it would lose value.
@@jhinckle90 the value of these pieces are so extreme to you probably. I’m pretty sure the value of such an edition is not that extreme to someone buying it. This Piece is now Sold! 🙏🏼
Good Lord what a magnificent piece. Every single detail is just beautiful. All and all a wonderful mix of creative power!
Real glad you liked it Alex!
Yeah just wish I could afford a montblanc
Hey Samuel, I quite like this design, do you know any pens similar design to this one, but at more affordable prices?
Yes for example there is the Heritage 1912 which goes towards this direction, however with a cap.
@SamuelNaldi Thanks for letting me know, personally, I quite like that "Stipula Da Vinci Pen" design, sample yet elegant 👌
I wish MB would bring back the Boheme line.
Lot of people with that. I’ve never been a fan of it.
You have outdone in yourself with this one Samuel please continue to inspire others !
This is very nice to hear Zach.
Ohhh my goodness what a treat it is to see this
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I wish they could do a similar capless with more pieces available at a more affordable price. This is a true grail pen
That really would be awesome. However there is one called Heritage 1912
@@SamuelNaldi yes but that is a capped retractable, so in my book not a true retractable. great video btw
A pen mightier than a switchblade indeed!
Great video, Very stunning fountain pen, that is a really one of a kind piece. Best wishes.
Thank you. It’s really an awesome piece.
I think that at Montblanc they have lost the feeling for what is ridicolous.
I think Montblanc has once again proven the amount of skills they have and why they’re Nr. 1 on the Market.

So nice! Thank you for this video.
My pleasure, thank you so much for watching!
A close-up of the nib would be appreciated.
You're right, that really was missing in the video. How did you like it beside that?
Beautiful!
❤️ Glad you like it
Now I want to sell my house and my car to get this 😔 where will I store my inks...

Don't take such a pen through security at an airport. 😮
