First of all, congratulations on these fascinating videos! Over time, I’ve built quite a collection of pens, and of course, the Montblanc 149 and the KOP are among them. My absolute favorite and daily go-to pen, however, is the Sailor KOP Iro-Miyabi Chitose-Midori Ishime-nuri. It doesn’t get any better than this!
Guess I need to get a Sailor and can answer the question! On my list! Enjoy and love my 149 Origin, although use my 146, Starwalker, and others more often for regular writing. 149 writes wonderfully though.
If the writing experience is your priority then KoP has to win out - but it takes some use to really appreciate the quality of the nibs. Easier to just own both.... Very honest analysis, thank you!
Between the two, I would definitely take the pilot custom urushi! lol I have the 149 and SKOPs and they could not be any different and love them both for different reasons.
I have tried, but do not own, a Pilot Custom Urushi. To me, it was quite like a Pelikan M1000, and therefore in a different category from the MB149 or KoP. It was an amazing write, but as I have an M1000 I don't think I will get a Custom Urushi
this is a very accurate comparison based on my experience. i loved Sailor and looked down on Mont Blanc. But when i got a 149 it became my favourite pen because it works so well as a whole. the barrel fill is amazing. so much ink. Sailor flow is amazing. But the lack of ink volume is bizarre. 95th Sailor KOP did have barrel fill. Brilliantly Sailor made like 100 only.
I already own the Sailor KOP in urushi and the nib is out of this world both in performance and beauty. However, being an ardent lover of luxury writing instruments, the 149 is on my radar.
I now have 4 Meisterstucks, none of which are a fountain pen. The 149 would fill that void, and as a lover of Montblanc that is what I would get. The Sailor KOP is something I could always add later if I wanted to. But probably much to your dismay I will NEVER give up my beloved yellow Lamy Safari. I may consider a Starwalker, just for something differenf from the Meisterstuck.
In my humble opinion, the 149 by MB is a superior pen: - Value retention. - Brand Recognition. - Wide range of Nibs sizes. - Probably better after sales service easily available across the world. - Montblanc black is like red Ferrari or Saint Laurent Jet Black. It is almost impossible to beat Montblanc when it comes to black + gold or silver accent fountain pens. Having said all that, Sailor offers some beautiful finished colour in stunning texture, such as the green Sailor king of pens. My grail dountain pen is the Namiki Red No 50. Excellent content 👌🏼 ♥️ from London J.
I have the KOP Ebonite and 149 in medium. My 149 sadly doesnt write out of box, theres a baby bottom. The KOP though writes amazing. I thought the feedback is very scratchy and pronounce, but it was subtle unlike pro gear 14k and 21k. It feels similar like bock nib in ST Dupont Line D, a touch of feedback is a pleasant writer.
Interesting. I prefer writing with Montblanc pens. I returned the KOP for that reason. Of course it's subjective, Chacun à son goût. I, as it appears you as well, appreciate piston fillers. I'm glad you explained why Japanese pens are made with converters, and it makes sense. Again, preference. The one thing that struck me from the beginning of your video was the similarity of design, and a Google search suggests Montblanc copied Sailor. But I think I"m correct with this, that the Montblanc design is more immediately recognizable as Montblanc than the Sailor as Sailor. I might be wrong about that. Thanks for the information.
Both are amazing writers but Sailor is more affordable, you’re paying significantly more for the Montblonc brand recognition. If you want to impress your peers it’s definitely Montblonc since most people don’t know about Sailor, however as a writer I adore my Sailor pens and they’re significantly less expensive. Honestly I’m an engineer and I don’t like piston fillers due to more breakdowns and they’re a pain to clean out. Good review 👍
Both pens are classics. Obviously one was influenced by the appearance of the other as they both look alike aside from size. Neither should be identified as being one up on the other.
Love your videos but you should consider stating prices in USD or a more common currency. I don't think many viewers are thinking in Swiss Francs, so that part gets lost on 99% of your viewers most likely.
The cost of cleaning a piston filler is high and very expensive in Montblanc. A converter is better but the flow of ink is equivalent just in few kind of pens!!! The 149 is the worst pen to clean! Keys and silicon are needed! To reassembly all!
I have both. The MB149 is inferior to the KoP (I have the Blue Ripple) in my view, the nib on the Sailor is much more characterful to write with. The MB is not so different to write with (though far better made) from its radically less expensive Chinese imitators, the KoP has not been imitated, I think the MB is a really fine pen but it is expensive for what it is; the KoP is on another level and therefore better value for money.
I was never lucky with the 149 I bought at least 10 in the last 12 years Not one of them was a good writer that even comes close to the Twsbi diamond for example , it sure got the reputation but I love to write with my pens , the 149 is not even on my top list . I have been collecting FP for 45 years , some MB models are superb but not the 149 Sailor is superb in everything , Namiki is superb , pelikan aurora all are superb writers but the number 1 goes to Visconti , montblanc , sorry you got the name but not the quality , in my honest opinion
Which one is the better between the Montblanc 149 and the Sailor King of Pen?
Obviously Sailor sails through!
Well Samuel, if the Mont Blanc 149 is an Omega Seamaster then Sailor King of Pen is a Grand Seiko with Spring Drive movement. 😃😃😃😃
I love my KoP by far the most of all my pens. In general I love Sailor nibs for their precision. I have never tried a MB.
I love my KoP too. Thanks for sharing!

Haven’t tried the sailor. But the 149 is the best pen I have written with as yet

Thank you much, i‘m really glad it was valuable!
I have both pens and 149 is just hard to beat overall. Its dimension to weight ratio is golden, and the aesthetic is neither too much nor too less.
Thanks for letting all of us know! ❤️🙏🏼
Love them both!
❤️❤️❤️

Definitely the King of Pen. It is all about the nib and the Sailor nib is sublime.
I already own the Sailor KOP in urushi and the nib is out of this world both in performance and beauty. However, being an ardent lover of luxury writing instruments, the 149 is on my radar.
Wonderful!
The M.B. is more beautiful, but I know from my Sailor Pro Gear II Realo, piston filler, with 21 K gold nib, that the writing experience is amazing!
Very true!

♥️ from London J.
Very cool, thanks for sharing this!
The 149 is for signing, the Sailor is for writing.
Thanks for sharing your opinion! 🙏🏼👏🏼
Exactly how I use them
Truer words have never been spoken. 👏
simple answer: whichever pen appeals to the individual buyer more than the other, for whatever reasons....
Absolutely true!
MB 149 is my fav!
Wonderful! 👏🏼

While I adore the 21k nibs Sailor produce, I have always preferred the 149 - it’s the pen I would choose if I were only allowed to keep one pen.
Thanks Mark!
Now that the holidays come, you should gift 1 fountain pen to your followers

@@jameskeener7251 you‘re absolutely about that. Thanks for your comment!
The Sailor KOP is available in medium and broad. It is NOT available in fine
@@mmomen3544 i know… i think i mentioned that…
It’s hard to choose between these 2 giants. However 149 maybe have a slight edge.
Thanks for your feedback 👏🏼❤️
If the KOP came with a MF nib, I'd buy one
We definitely need a Fine verson of this nib, i agree!

None 😮😮😮😮😮
Maybe The Pelikan M800❤❤❤
Hahaha - that‘s indeed another great one!
Two jewels.
Two diamonds.
❤️🙏🏼
@SamuelNaldi Health money and love for you and familys

love Mb but the Sailor KoP is quite literally infinitely better(guy w small handwriting:)

At first glance, I mistook them both for Jinhao X159.
really?! 🙄
Please skip the music. Nice comparison!
😅
