- Hello everyone! This week I sang Good Riddance from Hades (the game) with my bestest friend ever, Idrys!
A gorgeous song from a gorgeous game to take us into March! I don’t have much to say other than to please play Hades if you have the chance. It really is a great game!

I can just imagine Eurydice and Orpheus both singing this at the same time, longing for each other’s company again. Orpheus’s singing stops the House of Hades in its tracks as tears cascade down his face; meanwhile, Eurydice’s voice echoes throughout Asphodel. And somehow, their harmonies resonate through the Underworld, the damned souls hearing their pain.

I love how it sounds like Eurydice and Orpheus are singing from different parts of Hades and their voices are echoing into a perfect, beautiful duet that all the underworld can hear.

I too stopped and just listened the song. Same happened in The Bastion when "build the wall" song started to play. Supergiant Games truly are something special.

Everytime I walk into Euridyce's room I hear this song and I stop and listen just for a moment and let it sink over me. It's honestly the most relaxing room in a very chaotic game.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the point of the song. It's supposed to serve as a break from the action- But honestly that just makes the game and song even better.
Eurydice's room is kind of a safe-room, right? Kinda of like the Fortress of Doom or the safe-rooms in resident evil 4- So Good Riddance's main purpose is just safe-room ambiance.
With that being said, If you compare Good Riddance to the safe-room ambiance in Fortress of Doom and Resident Evils safe-rooms- Good Riddance seems really personal. The other games- Whilst their ambiance is equally as emotional, it doesn't really hold the same plot relevance as Good Riddance does, in both general plot and character backstory. The majority of the emotion in those songs is entirely based off of personal inference- Fortress of Dooms ambience can be inferred to reflect the slayers sense of isolation and his wrathful mourning, But you're never really explicitly told that, You just kinda infer that from the slayers backstory- And in Resident Evils case, The music is just a device used to give the reader a break without them having to actually stop playing.
With Good Riddance though- Even though it's only ambiance, It has plot relevance in the game and it references the original mythology. Eurydice's room on it's own gives you her perspective on her own death- It's... calming, melancholic but almost hopeful. It feels personal to her, but it's also oddly relatable. She's come to terms with her own death, and it kinda pushes you to ponder your own mortality.
The Orpheus version as well? Orpheus's version is just as emotional and personal as Eurydice's version- It's completely heartbroken. His version sounds like someone in the middle of mourning. Wavering breathy notes barely held together, And depending on how well you play, It should play just after your first death as well. So if you didn't have any idea about greek mythology, it almost sounds like the song is targeted towards the player.
Now, Both of them together? It really gives off their dynamic and relationship. It hints towards what you'll probably end up doing later on in game once you've settling into playing.
With that said. You know what you missed? The inference of their situation.
This is entirely personal speculation, I don't really know much about the timeline of greek mythology. However, I have a feeling that the song isn't supposed to reflect on the past- I don't think Orpheus had failed to surface Eurydice yet. I think it's hinting towards the current circumstance they're in. I think in game, That's the performance that Orpheus gives to Hades just before Hades offers Orpheus the deal to resurrect Eurydice. Orpheus fails Eurydice in real-time during either your next run or your next death.
That, is why this song is a masterpiece and why Hades is an absolute gem of the gaming industry. It's just- There's so much baggage crammed into just safe-room ambiance alone. There's just... so much thought put into something that is basically just background noise. It's absolutely genius and the best songwriting I have heard in any game, period. There are some bops in the gaming industry but I haven't heard a single song that has that much thought put behind it. The implementation was perfect, Orpheus's version for a hint and Eurydice's version for clarification and the songwriting, though simple, is so effective at moving the player. It's just great.
I just went on a tangent but I can't get over how well this song was implemented. The song literally has multiple layers in both songwriting and purpose and people need to talk about how amazing this song is more.

It worries me that people joke about Hell like this. The thought of you or quite frankly anyone going there terrifies me.
As humans we are indeed sinful and have rebelled against God. We are under His wrath and are incapable of paying the price for our sins. That’s why Hell is eternal.
God, while just, loves us. Out of grace He gave us a way to escape the punishment of Hell. He came to Earth in human form, lived the perfect life we are incapable of living, and died on a cross. Taking the weight and punishment of every person’s sins upon Himself, He spent three days in Hell.
Naturally, the originator and source of life cannot stay dead, and He resurrected.
Reader, if you can understand what I’m saying here, please turn from your sins to God in repentance and trust in Jesus and His sacrifice to save you. If you don’t understand the gravity of this or find it difficult to see the need, ask God to help you see things clearly.

This song feels like the song that Odysseus would have heard when he was sailing through the sirens island. It’s a perfect mixture of beautiful and dangerous. I’m actually working on a project for my creative writing class today. And this song is perfect for helping me kinda mellow out after a long day. Amazing job!

Orpheus's felt like a lament. Eurydice's felt celebratory. This feels a bit like a dirge, or at least a funeral procession. I mean this in the best possible way!
Makes sense. In the original myth of Orpheus, he travelled far and wide to bring Eurydice back to the living world following her death. He soothed Cerberus with his music, made Charon smile with his song and even managed to convince Hades to let him bring Eurydice back with him. On the condition that he doesn’t look back until they’ve crossed to the living world. Otherwise Eurydice would remain in the Underworld. He almost made it... and looked back before he crossed. He saw her, before she faded into the winds.
It’s a pretty sad myth. One of my favourites, but a sad one nonetheless.
Ever had a music experience where from the first note everything just... stops? Like you just sit there like in a trance, the music just wrapping around you, as if for a moment; nothing exists outside of you and the music you're listening to in your little bubble.

One of my D&D players surprised me with Hades for my birthday. I had heard good things, but rogue-likes weren't really my style (though Greek myth totally was). I decided to give it a shot, and... Wow. What a game. The style, the art, the characters, all of it. Now Anna (with that woodland nymph energy) can be a part of why I spend 10-30 minutes in Asphodel each time I get to see Eurydice.
Now, on a less professional note, *ahem*... SEND ME BACK TO TARTARUS WITH THIS BOP.
As someone that believes in the greek gods in modern day, Hades is one of my favorite games, and Eurydice was so hauntingly beautiful. Anna and Idrys, this was spectacularly done. It really felt like something youd hear wandering the Fields of Asphodel. I hope you both are extremely proud of yourselves. Apollo blessed you both with those voices and I hope you both continue to make beautiful music

I always have to stop and just listen to the muse when I fine her. Her song is one of the few true moments of respite it feels like you get in the game.
Being early to an Annapantsu video is a heavenly experience that I cherish.
I daydream to this all the time now. And the scenario is both beautiful and saddening. Here it is;
You step through the portal, afraid of what you'd see. Recently, you've been staying in another realm, and you're finally coming home. Your guardian warned you, "You won't like what you see, everything is gone." Despite their warning, you continue through the portal. Your vision goes blurry for a moment before refocusing. You see your hometown. It's been decimated, destroyed. It looked like a warzone. Everything was covered in a thick layer of ash. Realization hits you, and heavy tears stream down your face as you wander the place you once called home. Nothing was left. They were right, you didn't like you saw. You guardian stays alongside you. It take a few days, but you finally accept that everything and everyone is gone. You agree to go back with your guardian and live with them. It's time to start anew.

This is the most POWERFUL version of this song i've heard yet.
The original song sounded a lot more... soft? For lack of a better word. When Eurydice sings, it feels like she’s made peace with herself over her death, and Orpheus adds his own feelings of guilt and bittersweet; it’s really beautiful and sounds amazing, I love it.
But what I love about this cover is that it sounds more triumphant, defiant (especially during the “Good riddance, to all the thieves” part). I got a similar feeling from Eurydice’s singing but this sounds like when you finally defeat the final boss after being knocked down again and again and again, and you’re saying goodbye. “Good Riddance”, if I may.
I always loved Anna's voice but THAT GUY'S VOICE!!! I just love it sooo much!!
That shift up into head voice that Idrys does is my absolute favourite part of this cover. It’s so smooth and resonates so well with Anna’s voice.
(Doesn’t hurt that this finally contextualises those crazy high Orpheus harmonies in an octave that my baritone ass can handle.)

This is probably my favorite song from a video game, when I was playing Hades I would take a break when I came across it being played and just listen to it for like 10-15 minutes before starting back up.
I literally downloaded Hades on Sunday, started getting obsessed with this song yesterday, and then this cover gets posted today

This music feels like it completely envolopes my entire being when I listen to it. Something about it is just so deep and powerful that it just consumes you in the best way possible.
