Great video. My buddy and I watched it and proceeded to the garage. Without having the roof wrapped, I installed a six inch wide strip of 3M clear paint protector where the wind noise deflector hits the roof. Everything else went as you described. Excellent job Taco Twonz! 2015 Inferno TRD Pro.
Cant wait for you guys to start building out the runner. BTW... another reason why you go with Prinsu is so you can remove the crossbars to clean the roof. Instead of removing entire rack (Gobi). :)
FWIW silicone didn't do the trick for me (still got a damp seat belt on the drivers side). I recommend using a butyl rubber sealant (I used Red Devil 06970I RD that I bought off Amazon)
Thanks for this video. Considering this rack or the 7/8. 2 questions. 1) why do they ship that one front crossbar that is not powder coated black? 2) Can you not notch the weatherstrip for the L bracket instead of jutting it completely. So it just lays over it? Seems thin though that it may work,. Just curious. Thanks again.
Update: they no longer use the locking washers, they send a thread lock. I almost panicked when I couldn't find them. Called and they confirmed this for me.
Min 1:53 it shows a different lateral rack support which attach to the roof basically in the center, which normally is one in the middle and the other one at the back end. - Did you get the wrong rack by chance? just wondering because I freaked out a little bit when I saw it..... I ran to check my roof ! LOL
I agree Dylan. One would need to modify the bolt holes on the front bracket to account for the difference in height ( aka the weather stripping still being in place). Only function I see for the front brackets to to support the front end if one was to load the front of the rack with a heavy load...however if one was never panning on adding a heavy load up front they may not even be necessary. It is possible that the front bracket are still a good idea to keep the rack from "ringing"/vibrating as air flow flows around the structure.
Sweetest rack on the market IMO, compliments the lines of the 4Runner. Great job on the install. You did a vinyl wrap on the roof? Makes total sense and looks great.
Hey guys! Love the video.. question on the silicone sealant if you have a second. Do you put it inside the bracket holder and screw hole or seal it on the outside? I noticed you guys have a ton of silicone on the outside of yours..
Hey guys, just mounted this roof rack with the assist of a friend and this video... what back ladder do you have mounted to the 5th gen and will it mount to this rack??
Installed mine with the help of your video! Thanks. Im missing the screws/lock nut that goes on front with the non drill. Still waiting on prinsu to send them.:(
@@1CommonView the new instructions on their website say that they did away with the lock washers and replaced it with the lock tite. I just finished installing one about 30 seconds ago only reason I knew that they changed it 😅
@Taco Twonz- great how-to video -- thanks for posting! Question: you said this replaced a FrontRunner rack -- after you removed the OEM/stock rack and before initially putting on the FrontRunner rack, did you see a need to clean the rooftop bolt holes to clear out any leftover loctite from the factory?
Great install video! What is the height of the rack (at the highest point) above the T4R roof? There's no info on Prinsu's site. Thanks for the vinyl wrap tip too, I'll def be doing that too!
Hey, is it possible for you guys to measure the height of the rack from the roof of the truck? I'd appreciate it. I have a low ceiling parking garage I have to deal with. Great video BTW and that Taco looks awesome!
Taco Twonz ok what about that metal before the spacers(not the round spacers but flat square ones on the bottom of it) does it come with item or its seperate?
Both the drill and non drill use the factory rack holes. The front is where you can either tape the mounts or drill holes and hard mount them. You can switch to a hard mount later if you feel like it’s necessary.
Prinsu Pro - Don’t buy it until the major design flaw is fixed. The new Prinsu pro roof rack on my 24 Land cruiser fills up with water whenever it rains. The crossbars have an open channel that retain water. I called Prinsu they told me I needed to dry the rack every time it rains. Major design flaw all they need to do is drill two small holes in the bottom of each crossbar to prevent this water from pooling.
Hey Guys I followed your directions exactly to install the prinsu rack on my 4 runner and it worked out perfectly. Thank you so much. Do you have any recommendations for a cargo box that fits the prinsu rack? I tried using the Yakima and cargo box and it did not work. I would appreciate any recommendations. Thank you.
They should have made the front bracket just be a press fit on top of the weather stripping. Aka install the front bracket before TQing down the main middle and back brack ets.
Matthew Bruns there isn’t any interference as it’s modular. Even with the cross bars over the sunroof you can open and tilt. Prinsu has a video explaining this.
Do you think the rack could of been installed while it is on the roof? I am just thinking if I am by myself how I could move the entire rack to the top. Would you see an issue with installing the sides first and then the cross beams one at a time while on a ladder?
After watching this video and assembling mine on the floor of my garage....this thought hit me as well. I can't imagine doing the sides first then the crossbars would be an issue.
Cristian the weather strip channel creates a gap when the bolts go into the factory holes so the 1” spaces are used to fill the gap so the rack sits properly. A good piece of advice when using the spacers is to make sure you apply silicone around the base of the spacer and the top so it forms a weather seal.
@@crazygooseventures Thank you for the response. Makes sense , when we get our rack we will keep the silcone trick in mind. Any specific silicone? Or do i just go to my parts store and say give me the best silcone you have?
Use automotive or marine grade silicone sealant. In my case living in Canada where I get long winters, I used automotive grade silicone sealant with a wide temp range tolerance. I also used red loctite on the bolts as well. The factory bolts had them when I removed the old rack, so I followed the same protocol when I installed the new bolts.

Thanks man! Best prinsu install video on TH-cam for sure, helped alot !
Really great video guys, it helped me perform an issue-free install today. Thanks for taking the time to share!
Thank you so much for this video. Just finished installed my roof rack with the help of this video!
The wrap on the top is such a great idea! But most importantly, it looks very cool - especially with super white. Practical and stylish! 👍

Looks thin and cheap compared to the OEM rack
@@CP-kb1du It's aircraft grade aluminum. It's not cheap.

Thanks for the update! We might have to do an updated video
Does the silicon in the hole not cause a problem when taking it off and on?
So the front supports are just taped and there is no longer weather stripping on top of that area?
Nice info! I’ve been looking for a no drill rack. New sub.
Great video, very informative. Nice job!

Any reason why you wouldn’t just attach the 3m directly to the weather strip instead of cutting it like you did?
I agree Dylan. One would need to modify the bolt holes on the front bracket to account for the difference in height ( aka the weather stripping still being in place). Only function I see for the front brackets to to support the front end if one was to load the front of the rack with a heavy load...however if one was never panning on adding a heavy load up front they may not even be necessary. I'd see if I could just lay the weather strip over the L-bracket. *shrug*
@@ChemAndAdrenaline Agreed. I think I saw a video where they tucked it under the weather strip and seemed to work fine.
How has that strip of the weather guard you cut out been doing, no leaking into the doors or anything?
My weather strip flew away on highway. Cannot tell if anything leaked into my roof. I am not sure what the best way to tell that is.
So helpful!
I feel like cutting the weather strip wasn’t necessary considering you could just notch it?
Sweetest rack on the market IMO, compliments the lines of the 4Runner. Great job on the install. You did a vinyl wrap on the roof? Makes total sense and looks great.
What about the big open space in the rubber to the left of the L bracket? Seems like that would open it up to water damage.
All holes leading inside are filled with silicone
Did you guys use threadlocker on the bolts?
Loc-tite on all those little bolts?
Great video - thanks! Does anyone know if the Prinsu rack interfers with the Gobi ladder in the rear when opening the hatch door all the way?
It doesn't
Great video. Can you tell about those wheels and tires. What brand are they
I forget what they are. Some American Racing wheels on Amazon, super cheap
Humm just had a thought. Perforated aluminum sheet on top so one could sit up there or in my case use it as a prone shooting platform at the range :)

What kind of silicone should I use?
That silicone fix is a little sketchy, Prinsu should have come up with something better to seal that mount from the elements.
Do you really have to cut the black seal? For the L bracket?
Hey guys, just mounted this roof rack with the assist of a friend and this video... what back ladder do you have mounted to the 5th gen and will it mount to this rack??
Are you able to attach a Thule cargo box on the cross bars?

it seems to be common issue with prinsu missing hardware, i went to install yesterday and was missing all 38 lock washers needed for each roof bar...

Does the rack clear the top of the fin?
Is it heavy, any MPG loss
Could you have just put the 3M bracket on top of the weather strip?
Right that’s what I was wondering
Apparently you can tuck it underneath. Going to try soon.
I like them rims.... looks like mines. Looks like your running 17r. Mines 16x8
Any bad vibrations?... during reverse and idle?...
what did you guys use to cover the roof of the 4Runner?
Would RTV silicone work just as good as that clear silicone you used?
butyl tape from home depot, use it two inches before and after oem mount holes
poke a small hole where bolts go and then bolt up

What tent are you running as well is this roof rack strong enough to run larger tents?
Skycamp and yes it is
sweet rack, like better then frontrunner?
NoPro Dad definitely
Can you still use the sunroof?
Awesome video, guys! 👍🏻
Did you guys do the wrap on the roof yourselves? Or at a shop? Thanks
A shop did
Is there a specific type of wrap you guys used? Thinking of doing the same to my Runner.
Avery is good, 3M is ok, there's a few other brands
How is it that some adhesive can hold a roof rack down?
It's just a little extra support for the front

Install side bars first then add crossbars after , do the 3m tape feet last

yes. Prinsu makes an awning mount. prinsudesignstudio.com/product/prinsu-awning-mounting-brackets/
