I’ve found it to be even more critical on guns that have scopes mounted higher above the bore… I.e. “Bulldog” style rifles. Hunting, it is very easy to be “misled” by your notion of “level” on uneven ground… This shows up particularly clearly in archery on the field type events. If you don’t have a leveling device of some sort, you’re just guessing..

nice point. but what's the reason?

🚩Also : on (Any-Gun) when mounting scopes : the flat top of the rail, and or reciever, must be perfectly level with the horizontal cross wire in the scope riticle. Otherwise you're pissin' in the wind....🚩

I am thinking of driving up to Canada to visit a friend. Does anyone know where I can find Canada's PCP rules that I can rely on?

Slightly misleading.providing your not benching everyone cants a rifle and as for the silly levels attached to the picatiny rails a bit laughable.out hunting I can’t about 10-12 degrees..I know I do so when I mount a scope my rifle is canted yet my scope is level as it’s how I hold a rifle.and it does and will shoot straight…science

So the benchrest guys who shoot for accuracy at varying distances don’t cant their rifles, but you cant 10 to 12 degrees while hunting. If you cant the rifle 10 degrees right and then mount the scope with the reticle perfectly vertical, then extend that vertical reticle line down it misses the bore to the right. So that gives your airgun one zero instead of two because your rifle and scope are not inline anywhere except zero. POI before your zero is on one side of the target and on the opposite side after it. If you mounted it without the cant you could get a far zero at say 40 yards and a 2nd near zero at say 20 yards, depending on pellet weight and speed. Because a scope has to be aimed slightly down towards the barrel, otherwise its line of sight and the pellet's path would never cross as gravity constantly pulls that pellet down as it leaves the bore. But you, after allowing for target distance and wind conditions also have to figure in those left and right cant factors too. Challenging way to hunt, props to you.

@@ButchBrighton no I don’t bench…17 years in the military.your rifle bore shoots the same at any degree because it’s round.no one who shoots of hand holds a rifle straight ,it’s impossible,so your scope is still straight when you look through it but your rifle is at a slight can’t.basic science.and I won’t shoot 40-100 yards I will be shooting 400-2000 yards.so my question to you,set your rifle at home in a cant, but set your scope straight, now shoot! Poa will be as set.

Wow great rely. I agree. Off hand shooting is a different story! Been shooting (off hand for years) bench shooting is different. No argument there, where you have the table level a bag or some sort of a support. My problem is when I am off hand and put the rifle to my shoulder and hunting. Shooting at different angles I don't have time to level the scope. Of course you have to set it up as good as you can. My conclusion is set it up and go shooting out in the woods at different yardages up down left right. Practice practice practice. Just like bench shooting. I hope I don't come off like a know it all. I've been HUNTING for over fifty years. Sorry for my rant. I'm damn sure not a bench shooter.
