Re: the impact of luck in Magic tournaments (really, almost all CCG tournaments) - I've always heard that you need three things to win: Good prep, Good play, and Good luck. All three are integral.
I've also heard it as specifically 'spiking' tournaments to emphasize the importance of luck in them.

It's awesome that you guys have assembled a community of like-minded players that seems to have overall really positive energy. The number of times you guys said something like "in 3rd seat was a Magda player." "OH, that Magda player was so nice!!" "Yeah totally he was a cool guy"

I forget who said this quote, but I remember someone saying "If you win a tournament you're probably good, but you're definitely lucky." Tournament play is definitely a decent helping of luck, and sometimes the cards aren't always in your favor. Glad to hear most of the boys made it to final rounds

Tyler, I was seat 1 pod one. Playing the homebrew Pako and Haldan list. And after talking it over lunch, I do think the gilded drake was the wrong call on Korvold, simply because there is more non-creature interaction in the format. Someone should have had a counter spell for the reanimation spells.

Dylan, glad to see you're staying positive after the tournament! As mentioned at multiple points in the video, getting lucky is essential to winning a tournament and with cEDH, a lot of loses are completely out of your hands. Keeping your head up and moving forward isn't always easy, but it's definitely the way to go!

It was a great tournament, thanks to Cloud City and y'all for running an excellent event! I had a blast playing, looking forward to the next one! After T1 Gambling a Dockside to the graveyard in R3 and the mull to 3 in semis, I'm tilted off of playing Niv-Mizzet next time lmao
I remember looking at Tyler's finals pod at one point, and he had 5-6 permanents, including Kinnan, The One Ring, Void Winnower, etc, and then I looked over at Tayam and his entire field is a lone Young Wolf lmao

If Command Tower is the software used, it 'screenshots' the list at the time of the event starting so that there is a separate, unlisted copy of your list so people can see what was in your deck at the time.

On the moxfield note, it's fairly easy for them to implement something like "version history". The issue being how they hold the data on the backend (and I say "issue" because my educated guess based on my database developer knowledge is their database structure doesn't track the deck as a whole but rather the individual cards tied to the deck). They already have individual add/remove card history so all they would need to do is instead of tracking each individual change (they dont NEED to remove this but if they didnt it could make their database structure overally complicated and possibly break the version history), they could either do it as an autosave snapshot for you or have you hit "save" when you want to track the changes you made that were over time. That would save a snapshot in their internal database that would be the same look but with "/v2" on the end (or whatever version) so you can just paste that link into wherever you want and that would give you a frozen in time copy of the deck.

With the prevalence of cards like The One Ring and Orcish Bowmasters, is there any possibility of Cast Into the Fire seeing any play? I know the best case scenario is to just counter The One Ring, but there are many cases in which it comes down too early, or it gets played in a small window where no one has a counter available, and from that point on, it's basically locked on the board sans a Cyc Rift. 2 mana for interaction is on the higher end of what you want to play in cEDH, but I feel like it's versatile enough where it might at least be worth looking into?

I understand Dylan when he thinks about taking a Grixis list to the next tournament BUT everyone is expecting Grixis lists en mass in the tournament scene. So the better strategy would be staying with birthing pod. The statistics also prove birthing pod to be a viable list even in tournaments. I also have two major lists: Tymna/ Tana Greenfarm and Tevesh/Kraum TurboNaus. And Tnt are also pretty viable and can win out of nowhere.

I've been wanting to get into cedh for a while, but the price point is way too high to even consider trying without the allowance of proxies 😅

Pre rant: this video was great and I loved hearing your first hand accounts :) the wisdom and humility from you all is wonderful.
I strongly believe politics and player manipulation is a huge part of this game. And its such a issue in cedh for money games. I love the format, dont get me wrong. Yet there are so many times i recall being kingmade, lied to about interaction, watched people not listen to the other player to pay for rhystic, etc. I guess its luck to have players that dont respect cards, hand count, and board presence.

Think of a 64 player tournament as if it were a 32 player 1v1 tournament, so only 16 pairings.
After 2 of the 4 rounds of a non commander tournament there is normally a maximum of 4 undefeated players. In an edh 64 player tourney that could be as low as 2 undefeated players due to draw in rounds hitting time.
So 2 wins in the first two rounds is nearly impossible to not hit top 16 in a 4 round tourney.🎉 grats

I'm tired of people saying cedh players are just a bunch of try hards and that casual is where fun is. In my experience the fun players are usually with the cedh crowds and the casual crowds are the whiney bunch who seems to get angry all the time if opponents win or their decks doesn't go off their way. Kinda sad the tayam player has a 404 decklist. Here's hoping Jeffrey posts his deck.
