  • We spent a month on Curaçao’s west side and stayed in Lagun, so this was our house reef for a month! Unfortunately, the weather was quite rainy, so we never did get great visibility; but it is that way sometimes. The reef is a bit of a swim, however it is quite nice. There are some terrific spots to explore including along the cliff base, a large rocky mound in the middle of the lagoon and a small cave along the south wall.
Over our stay, we saw a terrific variety of life including several kinds of eels, lobster, crab and most of the typical Caribbean fish. We also saw a turtle, octopus and squid. Then there is the reef with lots of healthy sponges and coral.
Playa Lagun is a picturesque spot for sunsets as well. If you come to Curaçao, consider stopping here for a tank or two.
We want to encourage more shore diving, so this video provides some guidance where the site is, how to dive it and what you may see there. If you want to skip to or review specific topics, the section timings are as follows.

I used to live on Curacao many years ago and dove just about any bay there. Heading back for the first time in 30 or so years. So excited ! Awesome videos !!!

Sorry for the delay. We took some time off and are now getting back into the swing of things. We are so glad you like our videos and thank you for the kind words. We're actually working on a few more from Curaçao. (Diving Superior Producer tomorrow!)

Love your videos! Do you prefer Bonaire or Curaçao?

We like both, for different reasons. At a high level, we have found that Curaçao is busier (with the exception of Westpunt), the roads harder to navigate and the "vibe" is less island and more city. That said, many of the dive sites are fully developed with food, restrooms, small dive shops, spas, etc. Throw in beautiful sandy entries and it makes for some easy relaxing dives. Plus, there are more wrecks.
Bonaire, on the other had is much smaller, so it is more laid back, easier to navigate and has a more of an island feel...again...for us. The dive sites are definitely not as developed with most sites unsupported rocky entries. And there are fewer wrecks...well, just Hilma Hooker unless you go Tec Diving. That said, we've found the retail dive shops more numerous and product availability better on Bonaire. Also, as a marine park supported by STINAPA, Reef Renewal Bonaire, Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire and other organizations, the overall sense of community in support of the underwater experience is stronger.
To muddy the waters even more, we are building a house on Bonaire, but going back to Curaçao for two months next February/March. If you want to dig into details we can. :-)

Great video! Done quite a few snorkels and a few dives at lagun. Can also see flying gurnards on the sand flats between the walls, reef squid, whitespot filefish, scrawled filefish, and spotted eagleray at the mouth of the bay if you are lucky! Fun spot!

Thanks! Indeed, we enjoyed our stay there last year. We just arrived for Round 2 on Curaçao and plan to go west again. So many choices over there in addition to Lagun. Piskadó is a favorite (turtles) and we plan on doing a video for Playa Kalki this year as well.

C'mon over! The shops could use the business! :-(

@@TropicLens wish we could. Just so much expense and time restraints right now with getting COVID testing there AND now back to the US for just a week stay - since we only get 7 days off at a time. It’s hard to find COVID testing in our area that can guarantee test results within 72 hours of departure. 😓
