    No formations, midfielders and strikers not tracking back for possession, Goalkeepers thinking they're midfielders.... maybe my school team were just a head of the time with our tactics.

      frl the arguments abt the losses remind me of arteta being called shit. sure its not perfect out the gate but the team is young and showing a clear style of play. both managers are also using less defined positions and transitioning to role-based tactics which will continue to evolve.

    Lets say a team who doesnt make use of the parts of midfielders that arent conpletely necessary plays a team that still use players as midfielders, the team with defenders/midfielders will win because they have the same team but with an extra 4 men up front!!
    Thats what Brighton are doing. A crazy open game and using all resources as best as possible. No ones time is wasted.
    Theyve basically got an extra 4!! Players due to how theyre playing 🎴!!!

    Hello all, I’d love to debate with you guys (please stay open minded in the replies) so here’s the question - how do you compare the importance of formation fluidity against a rigid well organized team (for sake of argument, both teams are offensive minded)

    • @Afterthoughtbtw
      @Afterthoughtbtw 18 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I'd argue you can't actually be both a rigid, well-organised and also offensive minded team. Rigidity gives you defensive solidity - but it makes you incredibly easy to defend against if you don't transition to having more freedom when you have the ball. Even Mourinho's teams gave a lot of fluidity to going forward - he drilled the team defensively to within an inch of their life, but (in)famously didn't drill them in attacking play - instead he packed the forward line with the best flair players money could buy, and left the responsibility for attacking to them, pretty much.
      I can't actually think of a team that won things whilst being rigid and inflexible. The closest I can think of to a completely rigid, well-organised team that won trophies - at least in England - would maybe be George Graham's Arsenal, but equally, they did that without being offensively minded. 1-0 to the Arsenal, as the chant went. And even they had flair players in their attacking roles who had more freedom. Speaking as a defender myself, it's fairly easy to deal with a forward when you know what they are going to do. It's the flexible ones that give you headaches.
      Generally, rigidity is used by teams with a lesser budget (or in awful form) in comparison to their opponents to try to stifle the superior forwards' attacking play. It relies on the opponent's overcommitting in order to score yourself, and is by its very nature not as offensively minded. They are the yin to the other's yang.
      I'd be interested to see who you would consider an offensively minded rigid side.

    How Brighton get praise everytime for doing nothing is so annoying...De Zerbi got praised for losing with huge margins regularly to even the likes of Everton...I mean Brighton should be aiming to be like Aston Villa, they've sold so many players and consistently plan to keep selling their best players with no ambition to compete and then get praised for mediocrity...They don't even threaten to win the cups either
