Several things: I still have not found a vocal coach who is so versatile, who explains things so well, who still has such a great voice at his advanced (?) age. I love this guy! And the end of Dream On? Fabulous! So many bands should throw money at him to go on tour with them.
I would like to point out that on the contrary to the popular music and the American music industry's obsession with youth, in 99% of other countries it is very well known that pros like him, their voices only get better, richer with age and the range rarely drops unless they just stop singing altogether, and so in consequence the most popular artists, the best singers are usually in their 60+. I could be totally wrong on the physics and nature of it. I am just forever heartbroken I, we were robbed of the opportunity to hear just how amazing Michael Jackson would have sounded in his later years. His more mature and recent work, even back to Invincible, vocals on Whatever Happens for example...wow. Sorry for babbling! 🍻🍻
I am shocked at how good and high you can go with your voice. I am new here, just trying to learn to sing with an open throat. I recently began writing Christian songs, and I now trying to learn how to sing. I feel blessed to have found your videos.
Learn in Lower Laryngeal position - incredible air flow ! Keeping it here and moving up thru my chest into my head voice with my diaphragm supported. Keeping the throat open at all times. Clear, Clean and Powerful! I’ve taken lessons off and on since I was 45. I almost captured my sound . Almost doesn’t count !! 4 years with one teacher, 2 years with another , and I still didn’t fully understand who I was as a singer. Traveling around to other voice teachers. Feeling frustrated . I finally stopped singing . I haven’t practiced in years. I’ve never been able to sing free!! When I do sing the same song it always sounds a little different! this tells me I haven’t yet found my true inner voice , I am not convinced she’s there. , I’m looking for her every time. This is the first time a vocal instructor has shared with me “ “ where” to start Training to set ground. Thank You ! You’re incredible.
I've had lots of lessons too with very good gains. But teachers are so different, as you mentioned. I was focusing more on creating space with some nasal resonance. Not so bad, but another recent teacher, who agrees with Ken, directed me back to a low larnyx and creating space and getting sound out, esp for chest voice and said that broadens and gives more resonance which increases volume too. I tend to focus too much on what I've just learned and it must be BROAD. Good luck. Dont give up. I learn tips weekly from our very classical choir director. I'm 71 and still have a strong voice, tenor. Wish I had taken voice in college!!
@@kentamplin Hi ! Im interested in your course but in college so cant afford it atm. I would like to Thank you for this breakdowns and other Awesome content ! What youre saying is that the sense or skill of controlling a low larynx and adding modified a i e vowel creates some sort of safetynet through openess in the beginning, when going up in register and challenges?
A great teacher is one who brings out sth in you that you thought you never had inside you. You are that kind of teacher Mr. Tamplin, teaching millions around the world. Love from Kenya! ❤
What I love about Ken that makes him still my fave online vocal coach (after perusing many others) is that he has so much dang fun with it. Tres motivating.
OMG his voice .....absolutely incredible, richest, most versatile voice I've ever heard, and the range is insaaaaanneee!!!! WOW, Low rider!!!! holly krap he sounds so good lol!!!
WOW Ken, that was a really sweet high note. I wish I lived close to you so I could reap the rewards of an in person lesson. Thank you for such great instructions
I just realised that this is what my teacher is trying to teach me. Thanks for the video. Over my singing journey i changed a lot of times opinion about you but currently i am sitting at "oh wow this person is very good and once i get the foundations down i might try taking lessons from him" Great respect for your craft.
these vocal gems are really helping my song recording process as a music artist, thank you Ken for these videos knowledge and demonstrations 🙏🏽👨🏽🎨 with gratitude, LaynoProd
For the first time I was able to vocally stay with you when the different clips were being played. The only thing that I cannot do is the Bee Gees falsetto. This comes from just practicing and watching your free videos. Wonder what I could do if I could take your course. Wow!
I just finished this vid. Omg im in love with your work! The way you sing, the way you explain so precisely and concisely and your passion in making sure people are learning the correct things so as to not waste their time learning mistakes instead. I am definitely going to watch more vids, im a fan of you already!!! Keep on with the positivity sharing!!!
Your videos are truly inspiring and helping me find my voice and self confidence. Ty from the bottom of my heart ❤ I was brought to tears when I realized I can do it
Cool video and great vocal control! It can seem overwhelming to start out singing and realize how much is really happening inside without training. I understand the larynx positions better now, thanks!
My biggest fear is singing with my Dad, who was a rock star in the 80's. That is happening soon. I've been a songwriter for years. After seeing what you have done here, I am watching EVERY video of yours! I will let you know how it goes! ❤ His voice is amazing.
i wanna say it's absolutely true ken. i'm self taught singer (2 years) and i was wondering why sometimes i could get notes sounding like a Professional and sometimes i were just screwing up sounding more like a dying goat. i been playing around with my voice and noticed that when dropping my larinx down i was able to make the sound resonate in a sustainable way. so i've just to retrain from that position in order to fix all those stuff i did wrong. I came into your video a bit too late, but it's sincerely helping.
I would love to meet you in person one day sir. You've helped me through the years with your videos and courses. I follow you since the beginning. Bless 🙏. We keep on rocking.
Hey man, I just wanted to thank you for all your videos. I’ve learned so much from them. For the first time in my life I’m starting to like the way my voice sounds and I’m even singing in key from time to time. I’m a guitarist so it means so much to me to be able to sing my own tunes/covers instead of playing along to a track or (gasp) waiting for that lead singer to actually show up and lay down vocals like they tend to always promise but never show up. Lol. Thanks again!
It is hard work, but so worth it when you improve in ways or make gains in ways in addition to your original goals. Hope that made sense....lol!! Ken, would love to come out to see you and sing in that room.
Love these long detailed videos. I know your video explaining how to break down a song into just vowels to learn it, but I was wondering realistically how long it takes you to go from a song you don't know to it being at a level for you to perform/record it, and the difference in practice and training for a song that has a high range portion, compared to a song that is in a high range throughout its entirety
Loved the video, it was so well explained and in an easy-to-understand way. Thank you Ken I really enjoyed your video. Amazing voice control and techniques!!
Amazing thanks. I'm impressed by the way your speaking voice sound so different to your singing one (I know nothing about singing, arrived here trying to speak louder and more clearly :D)
I owe my singing ability, now, first to GOD and next to this man. God bless and repay you back for your selflless devotion in helping others become a great vocalist-singer, Amen.
Ken I know you know this. When you see Elvis or Kenny Rodgers sing .It looks like like their microphones are turned up super loud where they stay away from it from it and bring it closer when needed for the soft part. I've noticed and always wondered about their vocal set up. Ken I know you know this I bet my life on it.
Another awesome video like always by the one and only. I’m a fan of Ratt as well as your series: singers then and now and I’d love to see a video of Stephen Pearcy then and now. Rock on 💯🤘
That was awesome. I notice sometimes your tongue looks pointed up. When do you choose to do that. Do u have a video that explains how to open the throat more of a tutorial.
SUMMARY : (oversimplified) open throat technique doesn’t mean always singing with a buried larynx. It means anchoring (making it your default) so that as notes rise you move from low to neutral vs neutral to high and pinched. And that all larynx positions, low, neutral, and high are tools to be commanded and used for different tones. 👍
I remember buying a DVD of Heavy metal bands years ago ,and I turned it on,and you blew on to the screen with your guitar just screaming , Living for the Lord ! And I thought now ,this is something way different,I like this !!
Shit!!! I have been doing stuff wrong, mainly after singing lessons that didn't teach me this stuff, and have been suffering pain and vocal damage. Five minutes of doing even a little bit with your open throat technique and I feel like someone unlocked the pain chains locking up my voice. Yaaayyy. There is hope for me yet.
Wow I never realized you were a baritone before this video damn I DO NOT have those lows at the 9:00 mark. Is it possible that because you already have that capacity for chest and I don't, I can never get the same fullness on the chest up high like you and your cousin, sammy hagar? Could HE do that too? I have easy highs, but they don't sound good and I've been trying for years.
Thanks the visual of lowering your larynx was super helpful! Im the worst singer i know but whatever imma gonna sing it loud & proud gotta get better than this 😂😂😂
Hi, i love your videos. Such a shame i did not find them earlier, just a question, when you were singing Lady, can you save me, in the clip, was thay falsetto or mixed voice? Sorry to trouble you, just wanted an answer 😁
Ken can you please check out girish and the chronicles from India. A great singer. He has recorded with Rowan Robertson of dio, Joel hokestra from white snake , George lynch, and Chris Adler lamb of god.
Hey Ken great job as always, I was.wondering could you help Irk Emmet get.his voice back.using your technic or as you are you just lose the ability to hit them higher ranges. Thanks
Lol I hate when my phone changes what I'm saying and I hit send without reading it. I'm sorry for the way that came out. Rick Emmet singer for Triumph is 70 now and can't sing in the upper range any more. Is that from age or could your technic keep that range. Thanks
Yeah Ken , Ive noticed alotta these wannabee vocal coaches have resorted to the "Vocal coach REACTS" videos only critquing others ,usin their "Textbooks"..🤐🙄 Songs like "feel like makin" where the vrs' are soft timbred, and chrs' are BELT drivin was MY 1st discovery that YOUR open throat tuts were FINALLY being displayed in MY vocal.
