Just back from my M2 exit test on Walkley and passed with flying colours, thanks to this detailed video 🙏🏽 . Really helped me polish up on finer points they’d be looking for. Slight variation in route, we left the centre headed west on Walkley, left onto airport parkway, right on hunt club, right on Paul Anka, then left on McCarthy, right on Walkley, return to test centre…passed! Suggestions to me were, 1) look left-right -left…2) pump rear brake to indicate you’re slowing, and 3) merge faster on highway after indicating…all of which I thought I was doing, but he was not going to give me 100 % lol. Good luck to others taking the test….practice…practice…practice! And thanks again bro!
Hello, Thank you so much for making this video. I recently gave a my test and got my M license in Ottawa. I can’t thank you enough for making such detailed and informative video. This is perfect video to get the understanding of driving test. This video was my only source of information and got me my license (of course I knew how to drive a motorcycle before) but I just didn’t know the rules and regulations of Canada as I’m an immigrant. Thanks again keep up the good work.
Just did my test in Ontario. I was not required to maintain ready position at stops. Just make sure you're covering the hand break so your tail break light is on while stopped. Right foot down is OK. The instructor was almost mad I thought it was required. Said "I don't know where that's coming from". Practice your left turns at intersections, stopping behind the lines, proper tire track, and shoulder checking every 8 seconds
Thanks for the comment. I have my test coming up this Thursday and I can't understand the logic when people say you can't put your right foot down. How is some giant Harley rider supposed to balance the heavy bike on one leg? I ride a dual sport so its no big deal, but my right leg is always the one on the ground and I was worried it'd be a hard habit to break.
@@Roddohh you can balance literally any bike with a single finger if you actually keep it balanced. Having a significant portion of the weight rest on either leg is a bad idea, especially if you happen to put the leg down onto a slippery patch.
Thank you for this! It rarely happens, but sometimes at stops, my bike leans right, so I got to do a quick foot down foot up and readjust. I heard that Right foot down = instant fail, and it scared the shit out of me on the off chance it happens. Thank you so much for clarifying this.
Your video helped and I passed! The only thing I was told was if I was on a two lane highway/road, keep to the right lane by default unless told otherwise. Thanks for the video and the route was about the same as you show in Sep 2022 at Walkley road, Ottawa
Thanks for the video, very informative 👍. I’m also from the Ottawa are, and I’m doing my test tomorrow morning I’m Cornwall tho. There is one thing you did wrong. When pulling out of drive test place, you need to treat the centre medium, like a lane. You just went strait across. Basically what I mean, is you turn onto medium, then signal right and go into the right tire track on the left lane, then signal right and go into right lane left tire track . I remember as a kid no one wanted to do their test out of Walkley, because of that medium lol. Thanks again for the video. Hopefully I pass tomorrow 🤞
Thanks for a nice overview of Canadian traffic test. I've passed mine a few days ago in Poland and it's also quite difficult, however we are only riding in the city limits (50km/h limit), no highways and out-of-city roads. Forgetting one-way streets and shit walkie-talkie on the final test were my biggest problems. I've passed 1st time, but man, the stress was so high. I'm a little jelous of our American friends, where getting a license is almost a formality ;-)
Thank you for such an informative video! Put me at ease. Even though I've experienced a lot of riding, went from Toronto -> Montreal etc, I was still nervous being put under the microscope. - I heard that having your right leg down was an instant fail, thank God someone clarified that is not the case. (Almost never happens, but sometimes at a stop if my bike is leaning, I got to do a quick foot down foot up, and adjust while front brake is pressed always). I just have two specific questions: - I rely on Google maps to navigate, and it just makes me a very confident rider. I'm very visual and like to see the roads one short glance at a time. If you hold the google app, and hit the 4 squares on android, you'll see "Drive Mode" which you can drag onto your home screen. This lets you navigate without a destination, and it'll simply show you on the map, in drive mode. I'm wondering if I'm allowed to just have this on should I never need it (like seeing incoming hwy exits). - Is there an order to turn off / on the bike? I just use my kickstand to turn off the bike. Key, Kickstand, Killswitch are all 1:1 ways of turning it off. I hear that its not good to keep using killswitch as it can wear out the mechanism in situations when an emergency demands it. Different instructors say different things. And since my key is to the left of the engine, kickstand is the easiest. Don't know if this would minus points though. Thank you again, test in 12 days looking forward to it!
Ya seriously I’m wondering if this guy even knows the rules of the road. That’s probably a straight fail right there changing lanes in a intersection- vehicle or motorcycle
Had my M-test today at Walkley and passed! Great explanation of the route and what they are looking for, you were bang on. The examiner was difficult to hear so I just followed the route you outlined. LOL
Thank you for bringing up the hard to hear situation. I have my test coming up and will bring my quieter bike. It is still a little loud so I hope it helps.

Going for my M test. when you are taking left turn to merge on 80 km highway, you are in right tire track (left turning lane). Did you finish your turn in same right tire track (Curb lane) and move to left tire track afterwards ?
For coming to a full and complete stop, should you have both feet planted firmly on the ground? Or as you said in the video, keep right foot on the rear brake? TIA 🤙🏾
hello thanks for the video i was just wondering if after where the video cuts off do you go back on the highway or through the resedential area back to walkley?
Hi, is it mandatory to always put your left leg down at stop signs or at intersections or just pressing the hand brakes is enough as i am comfortable putting my right leg down.
@@kawasakiz4007 ah gotcha. I plan to take the M2 exit through my local college just as I did with the M1 exit. Also great video by the way, very thorough.
In a two lane highway are you not required to drive in the right most lane unless passing or making a left turn? Or will they tell you to stay in the left lane or when to lane change to the right lane
Hello Steve. Thanks for messaging. They will instruct you to change lanes if you happen to be in the lane they didn't tell you to go. At 17:00, I wouldn't go straight to the right lane when coming from that direction. If you are referring to the text provided, it is only providing instruction that, when you are in the left lane, you got to stay in the right tire track. For tire track explanation see minute ~8:06. I hope that answer your question, if I understood you correctly. Good luck and ride safe!
@@kawasakiz4007 sorry no i mean, once you turned left at 16:52 (by going into the left lane of the new street, which is correct), shouldn't you have eventually switched to the right lane? i thought that was expected for the test (unless the instructor literally specified you to stay in the left lane for some reason, which i've never heard of from any test). this has nothing go do with the tire track lane which i understand. it just seems odd that you stayed in the left lane the whole time when everything else i've seen/read says you should eventually merge into the right lane (even if they dont specifically instruct you to)
@@notstevelam I see now. I've also heard that, that you should always prioritize going to the right lane. However, I've also heard that you shouldn't do any changes if they don't tell you to do it in first place. I recall now, during my exam, I did exactly what you just mentioned -- In a similar situation, after turning left and staying in the left lane, I decided to prioritize going to the right lane right after. As soon as I did, the instructor, with a somewhat mad tone, said "GO BACK TO THE LEFT LANE". So, I would say don't change unless they tell you to do it. Just in case, on the day of your test, you can ask the instructor about this specific situation. It is part of their job to answer questions before the test if you have any. Hope that helps! He dinged me for leaving my right signal on when parking on the side of the road. Didn't signal early enough before exiting an off ramp, said I swayed too much when moving between lanes. I still passed but I challenged him on some calls knowing it was fruitless but jesus, some of the pedantic BS he came up with.
do the resters need to be behind your bike the entire time? so when changing lane in traffic should foh make sure there is enough space for you and the testers car to merge??
Are you taking about the examiners/assessors? Yes. They will be behind you, not necessarily changing lanes with you, but it doesn't matter. You shouldn't care about them. In case a car comes between you and them, don't worry, continue your way. They won't give you any instructions maybe until they are behind you again. In case they stop in a red light and, because you were in the front, you passed, then you will have to stop whenever is safe, and wait for them, They will let you know about that.
Stay to the right lane left tire track or when passing in the far left lane stay in the right tire track. You want to avoid the center lane because you can ride in a blocking position that protects you on both sides.
@@hellenicfront564 thank you for the comment. But honestly I can't understand how is that protective? I also cannot understand why is it required for the license?
