Burmese pythons are apex predators of the Everglades today. An adult snake can grow to nearly 20 ft., and eats everything from rats, rabbits, bobcats, deers and even small alligators. Pythons kill by constriction and then swallowing its prey whole. When two pythons fight over food in this video, the larger python will overpower its smaller opponent and turn cannibalistic by killing and feeding on the dead python too.

A classic example of why people that raise snakes shouldn't feed them together in the same enclosure. I can't believe how careless some people are feeding two snakes together is an open invitation for a bad situation. Great Video !!

@2:07. You can literally see one of the snakes deflate, taking its last exhale. That happened to me once at a concert, I was crushed . Once I exhaled, It was impossible to inhale. The most terrifying moment in my life. Luckily, the bands singer stoped the show and told everyone to step back. Unlike other performers, where people have died.@2:50, the 2 Pythons were originally vying for the same rat, then began attacking each other.

No. Python females lay their eggs and guard them during incubation and leave during the hatching of their young. The new born pythons have nothing to fear from their mother but there are plenty of predators...

To be honest, I really don't think the snake wanted to eat the other snake.
The bigger one just wanted to eat the mouse what the smaller one had.
When snakes eat, they are trying to swallow their food as long as they are not at the end of it and because the smaller one tried to eat that mouse first, it was probably still on that mouse even when it was dead. The bigger python just ate the mouse with python on it.

Then he took its tail, said to the snake: "If you like to eat that much, I have something to eat..." then the snake ate itself, becoming shorter and shorter.

From my observation, I would lean more towards the idea of 'accidental cannibalism' for this case. Firstly, pythons are not known to be 'snake eaters'. Cobras and Kingsnakes are but not pythons. The larger python seemed to go for the rat which the smaller python already had in its bite. When the larger python bit down on the rat and begin to swallow it, 2 factors came into play that resulted in the following accidental cannibalism. One, pythons have backfang teeth as opposed frontfangs like those of cobras. Backfangs consist of a row of sharp teeth that curve inwards that makes it almost impossible for a prey to escape once captured. Likewise, it is not easy too for the python to just release the prey from its bite simply by just opening its mouth and release the bite. Backfangs teeths work like fish hooks. Once hook into bait, almost impossible to unhook. Secondly, is the effect of anti-peristalsis that forced the cannibalism act to continued. When we vomit, contents in our stomach is regurgitated out travelling up and out. When that happens there is nothing we can do or control. Example we cannot suppress or stop vomitting halfway. For the python once the prey being swallowed has enter the throat region just after the jaw area anti-peristalsis takes over and begin to push the contents inwards to the stomach. So in goes the rat and automatically followed by the smaller python. This method of feeding commonly practiced by snake keepers is call 'powerfeeding' where additional food or nutrients are fed to a snake by giving it a rat first then as it swallows the rat follow through with whatever food next.

It started out with a head scissors then ended up in a body scissors. 😁
Saw another video of a fight between two small snakes in a jungle in the Philippines. When one attacked, the other was ready and in a badass lighting fast move wrapped itself around the attacker's neck, locking it up in a head scissors, and commenced not only squeezing but twisting! It went on and on and on, I honestly thought that snake was going to twist its rival's head right off with that twisting head scissors. When the trapped snake's struggling became weak, the two snakes just lay quietly for several minutes until the life was squeezed out of the victim. The victor then just slithered away, not interested in eating its rival, it just didn't want to be eaten. Amazing defense!
