The miniature tilt-shift depth of field effect also blew me away on the intro forest level. Also grabbing Six's hand and running around gave me major ICO vibes
The stadia criticism for this game in particular is fair, it does not perform well in darker areas due to macroblocking and color banding from the compression, which could reduced a bit by playing in 4k mode. If given the option, please experience it on PC or one of the next-gen consoles.

Doom and COD are not good examples because they have ALWAYS targeted 60fps on consoles so the extra horsepower is clearly there to enable RT at the SAME framerate target. Doom is 60fps on every console except switch and COD is 60fps on every console. In those games, 60fps is the quality mode. Always the same reaction/narrative since the beginning of the generation. As if that's against the law of physics or something. There is nothing surprising in PS5 outperforming XSX in some cases.
The PS5 always seems to have more stable framerates and Xbox always seems to maintain a higher resolution because the PS5 actually has a better CPU than the XSX. On paper it doesn't look like it since they look identical except PS5's is lower clocked but it actually does something unique with its cache that gives it more, and cache is very important for CPU performance. APUs are typically very low in cache and that bottlenecks the performance, for example their CPU's on paper looks like it should perform similar to a 3700x yet it actually performs closer to a 2700x. Games that are less CPU bound however (no 120 fps, no high density AI or physics, etc) the Xbox Series X seems to win. This is why it may win in a normal 60fps mode on one game (DMC) then loser in the 120fps due to a CPU bottleneck. I will do a video about this on my channel if people are interested in a more in-depth explanation

Have you noticed since the launch that ps5 usually hangs with and on some occasions exceeds the series x when it comes to performance? If not your sleep walking. Ms has pushed for 4k resolutions to the detriment of the performance of the series x and s. Not the s so much. But as far as raytracing it's def a bug. @@gamedad7336 Thats not strictly true, you only have to look at the list of games that support 120hz, there are about 15 for the PS5 and over 5 times that on the Series X already, some don't necessarily benefit greatly from it but some absolutely do. They can blame themselves for always putting "VS" in their titles, and doing side by side platform shots, they make everything a competition.

They'll be fine. They do it for clicks and are not a bunch of college kids running some small operation. They are grown men under Eurogamer. I worry more about paying customers getting ripped off, facilitated by paid game channels than game channels themselves.
Digital Foundry are the biggest arms dealer for the console wars but at the end of the day all the petty back and forth in the comments section ads to video engagement so it benefits the channel in the end. That said it's not Digital Foundry's fault people become emotionally attached to mass produced products and come to their comments section to justify their purchase.
If the raytracing isn't enabled on Xbox is it even fair to compare how they perform , ps5 has a much tougher task to deal with and it's already on par with Xbox adding ray tracing to Xbox gonna hit that resolution/frame rate harder shouldn't this be a massive concern especially when it's already having issues in the frame rate etc
Why take it so serious? They are not using full RDNA 2 on Xbox yet, PS5 dosent even have VRR or simple things like 1440p native output and don't forget PS5 has No games anyway.

DRS is implemented in performance mode and the SX holds a higher resolution in taxing moments... there's your extra 2 tflops.
Fanboys like you need to realize that these patches to games (and day 1 releases) have nothing to do with Microsoft or Sony. If the Dev's of the game aren't taking the time to implement and test things properly, things like this happen and we need to hold the Dev's responsible. Next time it could be PS5 that has something wrong with it... but, it won't be Sony's fault.
Common sense bro. Stop fanboying.

@@raios-rogueboss-slayer4179 you got that right!
So the Xbox is running at a higher resolution because they didn't enable ray-tracing properly?
It's a strong possibility. But the resolution would most likely be a bit higher anyway due to it having a bigger gpu. But the resolution is already very high on both systems. I played recently on ps5 and honestly I couldn't tell the difference in resolution much switching from beauty mode to performance mode.
@@gregorydaconta2084 The gpu is "bigger" but it's not *that* much bigger.
Not having ray tracing enabled would free up so much room, allowing for more power to be dedicated to the resolution while maintaining the framerate.
The Xbox version is running so close to 4k while in performance mode, I highly doubt it'll stay that way if they fix this problem.
It still had FPS dips where the PS didn’t with even RT turned off which is a massive concern to me, they really need to fix the Xbox version it’s not like the power isn’t there, just match the PS settings if they have to
Seems to me like most games that added ray tracing also had an RT 60fps mode. I can't name a single one off the top of my head that requires a 30fps lock for RT. We've got Spider-Man, Ratchet, Metro, Doom, CoD, this game, etc. Not sure what Alex meant when he said it was rare for RT console games to run at 60fps.
Totally agree.
Maybe he meant only on Xbox?
Doom and COD are not good examples because they have ALWAYS targeted 60fps on consoles so the extra horsepower is clearly there to enable RT at the SAME framerate target. Doom is 60fps on every console except switch and COD is 60fps on every console. In those games, 60fps is the quality mode. They also offer 120fps modes without RT (and in the case of Doom, a second 60fps mode without RT with a greater push for higher resolution)
Alex continually talks fud, anything that allows him to belittle a console and big up pc. Its pretty pathetic for a journalist, and he doesn't fit DF as a result. I have the same spec pc he has, but at the end of the night I switch mine off, Alex appears to take his to bed.... Lol
@@Highwaysonyfan87 Instead of typing a bunch of nothing give me examples of games that have an RT mode exclusively locked to 30fps. I mean maybe there's a couple games that nobody played, but the majority of RT enabled games on the new consoles run at 60fps.

Anyways. Control Ultimate Edition and Hellblade are the first 2 that come to mind. Games that targeted 30fps on the original consoles and only have RT in the 30fps mode with the higher framerates removing RT

This is in my top 5 games of the year so far. I just don't understand why Xbox is not using the same raytracing as PS5. Could it be they designed it for the Series S first? It makes no sense judging by the Series X's power.
That is exactly what I was saying.
The Series S is the lowest dominator and is holding the Series X back.
Just like the original Xbox One is/was holding the Xbox One X back.
Cause that console with its extra 4GB memory, can - when native 4K is not pushed - do a lot more.
Must be some kind of bug or pure laziness from the developer, there's absolutely no reason why the Series X and PS5 versions aren't identical.
@@Countless_Relics what a non sense. Are RX560 for example holding in anyway RX6000 while the former is two gen old. Haters on the internet...

@@deadmankino You must have a terrible TV that degrades the image then because I've looked at numerous viewing distance charts and you'd have to be extremely close to a 65" TV to see any difference.
It's so funny it's always "Weird" when the Playstation is doing better
Because the Xbox series X is more powerful.... And shows it every time the games get patched.
Always the same reaction/narrative since the beginning of the generation. As if that's against the law of physics or something. There is nothing surprising in PS5 outperforming XSX in some cases.
Its because the over rated xbox power narrative got people looking like 🤡🤡🤡
The PS5 always seems to have more stable framerates and Xbox always seems to maintain a higher resolution because the PS5 actually has a better CPU than the XSX.

Excellent video. Good research and analysis into the games. Hopefully they fix the ray tracing for series x as it is the more powerful console. It should have no problem handling the ray tracing.
It’s probably a bug and will be fixed
Have you noticed since the launch that ps5 usually hangs with and on some occasions exceeds the series x when it comes to performance? If not your sleep walking. Ms has pushed for 4k resolutions to the detriment of the performance of the series x and s. Not the s so much. But as far as raytracing it's def a bug. No reason for it not to work considering they use almost identical GPU architecture. It'll be fixes.
@@gamedad7336 Thats not strictly true, you only have to look at the list of games that support 120hz, there are about 15 for the PS5 and over 5 times that on the Series X already, some don't necessarily benefit greatly from it but some absolutely do. I think as the generation continues all these things like faster storage and more powerful console will start to fade and we will get fairly even performance from both consoles on cross platform titles.
@@northfield3654 Most of those 120hz games on Series X are lastgen games running in backwards compatibility mode that takes advantage of a DX12 hack that allows devs to double the framerate relatively easy without breaking a game's logic. The PS5 often times would need a dedicated PS5 version of the game to make use of 120hz mode due how the backwards compatibility implementation is limited compared to Series X. It has little to do with a CPU or GPU power difference.
@@03chrisv I was replying to the statement about performance, this is generally categorised in FPS capability, I also said that the perceived advantages of CPU/GPU/NVME will fade as the generation continues and we will get fairly even performance from both consoles as time roles on.
