Dude, I will never buy another game that doesn't allow reviewers to use their own footage or forces them to review only one version of the game. I'm glad to hear that turning off RT pretty much locks the game at 60. Games taking less space and loading faster is getting pretty interesting for PS5, meanwhile VRR and quick resume are excellent for Series X. This feels way more next gen than what we got from 360 and PS3 to XB1 and PS4 honestly.

And not only for their power, but for the experiences they enable especially for so cheap. The 3D Audio from the PS5 and the DualSense’s haptic feedback shine brilliantly most recently in Returnal and it’d be a different experience without it. Well I have both console's. So I'm not for one or the other. Just surprised to see the Xbox have such slower load times. I know we are talking about 8 secs here but idk.
Not even 2 second loading time in a awesome looking game like this omg and I remember me playing skyrim on my 360 with a 60 second screen when I enter a city then 20 seconds when I want to go in the tavern and 20 seconds going out again crazy.
Great video guys. 1 thing you forgot to mention in the loading times section was Quick Resume. Completely negating the need to load the game from scratch and load a save file. On Xbox don't forget you can go from the dash board to exactly where you left the game last time out in just 6 seconds.

What blows my mind is that console gaming as a whole is finally taking some steps to evolve in the right direction: offering VRR, slightly more options in terms of graphics vs performance (still not there though, c'mon devs - things like Vsync etc should always be optional) and it's basically extreme performance-per-euro/dollar gaming right now. I mean, try and build a PC from scratch that's equal to a Ps5 or Series X. You most definitely can, but... especially right now, you'll be spending so damn much. I'm a huge gamer and I always love PC gaming (also own a console each gen - I skip on vacation due to my expensive hobbies lol) and if friends of mine want to get into gaming I'd usually help them build a PC, but right now I'll advise them to keep an eye out for restocks on the Series X or PS5 depending on what they want ;p That's a first.
This game looks amazing. Very impressive how it keeps 4k/60 level on Series X/PS5 most of the time even with RT enabled. Separate thanks for devs for not bailing on Series S and doing an amazing job for that machine: a very stable 2k/60 with RT off in such a beatiful game is a great result and is much better than an average new game. While many devs don't bother optimizing their new games for SS and just set the resolution at 1080p (not always paired with 60fps), Capcom did an extra push to give the owners of SS their next-gen feeling with 2k/60 and even enabling a full RT-on mode. The next step here as I see would be either putting a lock on 2k/30 for RT-on mode to avoid jumps from 45-48 fps to 25-28 fps in different scenes or change the target resolution of RT-on mode to 1080p with more stable 45 or even 60 fps target (however, I understand why they try to keep it at 2k resolution). Anyway, big thanks to DF for this review and to Capcom for the game. Can't wait to try it
@Jason Yuen yeah the game is good but it's not like a proper horror is basically just an adventure game, and yes the game looks good especially for FPS, textures well that's different story some are very good actually amazing and some are bad or average, but again it's a FPS game if you start up god of war (actually a pretty average game maybe 7 out of 10) as a FPS game you will see so many pixeleted textures that you would start puking, and RE8 is actually a much better game then something like God of war or let's say Uncharted 4 that game is sooooo dull and boring I almost fell asleep and I stopped at Scotland I couldn't take it anymore, if only Sony could follow capcom formula game play first and stupid 20 minutes cut scene later tell the story doing game play don't force me to sit down and watch a movie, but yeah that just Sony they are behind the trends since PS3 weirdly their last good and at the same time bad console I still have my original PS3 and I love it to death but since ps4 they just lost the whole magic so I swych to Xbox because they are providing me with arguably the best DEMO mode ever gamepass that how I'm discovering games now, no way I'll spend 80 euro for a game that is a pure garbage but with gamepass I can easily check few games u don't have to finish it but check it and then buy it. @@Loundsify he said RT resolution is 1/8 of the rendering res (4k). I assume lowering the render resolution would percentage wise lower RT resolution aswell. So I guess it would help. Less rays need to be shot.
I think developers shout focus on *1080p when it comes to Series S!* Especially when it does not run in 1440p/60 like in this case and maybe with RT in general! Also DMC showed that. But +Digital Foundry do you know if Microsofts "velocity architecture" is fully supportet/ engaged or even working in this new titles? But now a new type of Autobahn has opened for consoles. * I'm hoping that you cover Subnautica Below Zero on current gen and compare it to one of the best survival games: its predecessor Subnautica. I'm always fascinated to see how the dual sense is implemented because imo it adds more to next gen than the simple graphics upgrades (not that they are bad) and hope to continue to see the dual sense being a focus. 3D audio probably adds a lot to this game as well!!
Dual sense hasn’t moved pass the gimmick phase in my mind. Anything dealing with firing a gun hasn’t felt good IMO. Astros Playground has been the only game that has fully showcased the controller and made it feel next gen. Returnals alt fire on the adaptive trigger has also felt nice but again don’t like the trigger to actually fire a weapon. Looking forward to seeing what they do with Horizon Forbidden West
@@philrichjr Returnal did a great job with the haptics as well. It feels great. Borderlands 3 also has really great haptic feedback. Firing single shot weapons is a blast.
@@JoyStickGuru the dual sense haptics are A1 and that’s not where my gripe with it lies. It’s mainly the adaptive triggers for shooting. On paper, it makes sense but they aren’t able to capture the feel of a trigger reset. For Returnal, to me it would’ve made more sense to have active reload initiate on trigger reset instead of actually having to pull the trigger to do it. Honestly just wish they’d incorporate more customization into what you get out of it besides just turning it on and off.
@@JoyStickGuru for guns specifically the tension should be at the very top of the trigger pull to eliminate that mushy feel…. Crisp break and crisp and audible reset. That might be beyond what they’re able to actually accomplish lol but to me that would make it feel more natural.

The main room in the mansion around 1hour in is the first time I noticed it and have run into more areas since, mostly the open sections where the environment isn't so confined. Hopefully Capcom can resolve this in a patch.

I’ve been playing a lot in the last few weeks and am honestly surprised that this stuff is still there.
Two things worth mentioning here, at least for the PS5 version which I play. 1. Significant input lag for camera movement, especially when acceleration is used. 2. When You look at the sky, especially from the rooftop, banding is visible on the gradient.

I'm waiting for the VRR Patch for PS5 before buying. Why can't Sony still deliver this feature and MS can handle this since launch? Would be nice if DF could go a little deeper into this topic and ask a few people...
Microsoft definitely did a great job future proofing the Xbox Series XS, to the extent that it will take more time for developers to get used to the new development tools
And third party devs are still getting a grasp of the SSD. In Returnal for example you don't even know when to stop playing because the game doesn't even load 😐
It really can't be that hard for Capcom to 1. insert an optional 30FPS cap on Series S and 2. Insert a 1920 x 1080 render mode with RT so you would imagine the game would run a great deal closer to 60FPS. Otherwise the RT mode in current form is kind of useless.
At 16:55 mark, Johb said " when you load up a save, return to the menu screen, or load up a mercenary match, you are greeted with a brief loading screen on XSX/S". So the advantage is not really during gameplay so is that really a big deal?
4k 60 fps with such high quality visuals is an awesome achievement. Really cool to see how these new consoles hold up to my RTX 2080S i9-9900k rig in almost every aspect. Its very impressive considering the MSRP (if you can find one)
@@Vartazian360 no, it's not. Both objectively in its hardware/voltage and frequencies, as well as demonstrably in performance. Not even close. Especially factoring in the 9900K lol.

Both are valuable but I think 'gamers' can sometimes get too wrapped up on numbers and lose sight of how a game is designed from a creative perspective or how it feels to play.
Dang, those spoilers. I realize you have to show the game off, which will include some enemies and environments but dang. At least you blurred some key cutscenes though. Great breakdown.
I managed to trap scrum behind one of the containers in the bossroom as he powered up his fireturbine, he lit the room up and made the raytracing shine. Only situations in the game I had fps drop was some parts around Morau bossfight area and some of the factory. This is a really solid title all around
All consoles very well, even s series, the best xbox seriex version but for a little, only 2 or 3 fps more than ps5, the fps drops occurred in the same part both ps5 and xbox series x. The raytracing implementation did not seem to me to be relevant in this game, or so I would recommend playing with rt disabled on all platforms to get a stable 60fps all the time because the rt in this game does not make a difference in my humble opinion.
It's like a paradox, if somebody picks Series X because they value performance, then for that same reason they would want to turn RT Off. But then it wouldn't make sense to pick Series X due to performance because both versions run the same without RT. Im my book, 4k at 60 and RT Off with no loading screens is probably the best version (in consoles)
Haters clearly series x runs better just admit it. Even one frame drop less is still technically worse in graphic comparison. It just depends on if you’re a fan boy of which ever console. I feel like Sony fan boys don’t realize series x has more power so regardless going forward every new gen title will look and play better on series x because it’s overall more powerful. It’s really not hard to digest.
@@chrisbeckham9802 If 60 fps is what you care about, just turn RT off, and it will deliver that on both consoles. But no loading screens is something you only get on PS5. In my opinion that makes the PS5 version superior, which continues the trend.
@@CV-lm7pv Sure, kid. lol Like you wouldn't rather have better performance & absolutely love it if the PS5 could run this at 60fps with RT. The Series X is doing that fine. Now just wait until an actual true next gen game drops & they begin taking advantage of all that tech in the Series X that the PS5 don't have. When Velocity Architecture begins getting utilized, that one singular advantage in the SSD will be gone.
@@CV-lm7pv but regardless every new gen title will ALWAYS look and play better on series x because it’s has overall more power to output. Are you not understanding that or are your just going to remain purposefully ignorant because PlayStation load 1 second faster?😆

That's how much I love their content, of course I mean fall asleep to the video as in after I've watched the video once already, having absorbed it's content. Thanks everyone at DF!

True. I remember on PS3 most AAA games used to be sub 720p average 27 fps with screen tearing. Now the performance you get from $400-500 machines are pretty impressive.

And not only for their power, but for the experiences they enable especially for so cheap. The 3D Audio from the PS5 and the DualSense’s haptic feedback shine brilliantly most recently in Returnal and it’d be a different experience without it.
@@Vartazian360 no, it's not. Both objectively in its hardware/voltage and frequencies, as well as demonstrably in performance. Not even close. Especially factoring in the 9900K lol.
DF I really appreciate you focusing as much on the artistic design as the objective technical stats like resolution/framerate. Both are valuable but I think 'gamers' can sometimes get too wrapped up on numbers and lose sight of how a game is designed from a creative perspective or how it feels to play.
Looking forward to pick this game up on my series x
Lol
0:57 Ah…. Resident evil outbreak theme , It will always be THE resident evil tune in my heart
Seeing how dark and good this games look. Makes me wish Ubisoft used this engine for a new splinter cell 🥰🥰😃😃
Can't wait for the PC analysis!
And even if anyone cared about that whopping "8 Second" load time over better performance, Quick Resume eliminates that.
0:44 music in the background is from Resident Evil Outbreak opening movie. I miss that game so much!
