Serena was very impressive in this tournament. She faced Belinda Bencic in the first round. She's a very dangerous player to face so early. This is her second round match against a player she faced less than 2 years before in the French open final. Lucie Safarova is a very good player. This is what players of this era face, yet people try to belittle their achievements and claim it's a weak era. The top 10 might not be as strong as the early to mid 2000s, but the top 50 is the strongest ever in history. Most players nowadays have 100 miles per hour serve, and are very athletic and strong. They can beat anyone on their day. Serena Williams is the GOAT.
2017 Australian Open, the last Grand Slam title Serena won. Who would of thought. She looked in great form that tournament and the fact she was pregnant. Amazing
this is my favorite tournament she has played... i know she was with child... but she was serving so well and hitting so clean... moving crisply... just total focus... she has shown spurts of this same form... i think she can get their again... just a little harder at 39 and post difficult child birth...but if there is anyone that can do it... It is Serena Williams
I never paid much attention to Safarova before but based on this match, I am a fan. Her slice serve is beautiful and she uses a lot of spin. Hard to read her ball directions.
Safarova was a dangerous player to play against that year, but Serena was too tough in the end. On a side note, I wish the commentary was more descriptive than just, "well played!". LOL.
She was louder here at almost every point and looked very pissed when she missed the balls (inc. those that were too good to be returned) That may have been influenced by the raging hormones from her pregnancy. Anyway, what she did here is beyond our ability mere humans.. Haha

This match in particular is underrated and barely anyone talks about it, Serena played really good and served pretty solid here.
