To his defense, I believe he meant ALIVE II not Alive! He describes the pictures on the cover and Alive! has no flames or blood in it.

The zeppliny part is definitely an ace riff. He use to play that part at the end of 'She' ...leading to his solo on 'Alive'
The 2nd half of that song, the ending, is also the break before the solo on the song "She" on Kiss Alive..

They single handedly are responsible for the 80s hair metal scene. Literally every band that was out was a kiss wanna be band. They copied everything from their stage show. Song styles. Big hair. Giant logo. And so on. They were the blue print for everything that came after them.
It's also no secret that they plucked bands from nothing, took them on tour and exposed them to millions.

True. KISS gets a lot of heat from the puritans. They will never understand how much KISS influenced the hard rock and metal scene in the 70/80s. Just look up all the great bands they brought with them on tours.

I believe this was the very 1st song Paul played for Gene (when they met for the very first time)...Gene said, "Oh so you're a songwriter too?...Play something for me" and Paul played what was then "Sunday driver" and became "Let Me Know".
Let Me Know was originally titled Sunday Driver. Their debut album is a classic solid hitter. One of the greats for sure.
Fun fact: that solo at the end of the song is the same solo that they play at the end of “she” on KISS Alive

THE reason I switched from drums to guitar in 1978 was Ace Frehley! I saw that picture in the Evolution Of KISS booklet inside Alive II where he's playing his awesome vintage burst Les Paul and bathed in the golden spotlight. I saw that and said: "I gotta do that! I wanna be up there on stage under those lights!" And a few years later, I was! Ace Frehley, Tom Scholz, and, of course, Eddie Van Halen, were huge influences on me when I started! I've been a KISS fan since 1975. And, while I don't like what they've been doing lately, I'll ALWAYS be a fan of the older KISS with the original 4!
I got into them in '74.
Man, Kiss was also the band that gor me into rock music, and I'm a huge Ace Frehley fan. Even got to see him live twice amd meet him, his shows are still kicking serious ass! But, I'm a little surprised that you haven't heard this song before. It's a really fun song, and fun to play on guitar as well! The jam at the end is actually my favorite Kiss instrumental piece. Amd yes, it's very Zeppelinesque, which is kinda not surprising as they were all big Zeppelin fans, especially Paul, Ace and Gene. Thanks for the videos dude! Really like your content! Rock on!
This was the song Paul sang to Gene when they first met. Gene couldn’t believe someone other than he wrote songs so he asked a Paul to show him one of his originals. It was originally called Sunday Driver. Also, the heavier ending in this song is what they usually use to go into Ace’s guitar solo where he sets it on fire and makes it levitate.
I'm 52 been playing guitar since I was 12 years old. I took lessons but always played by ear. It is true what you said about picking up a song quickly when you've played a long time. Before you started I said I believe that song starts in A or A minor lol

I love kiss too, the first time I heard kiss was when I listened to rock and roll all night. The second song I’ve ever heard was let me know, please do more kiss. We’re brothers in kiss. I’d love to just see more of how to play these songs and the like. Kiss is such an underrated band in terms of rhythm and bass. Let me know is one of my favorite songs and the first song Paul Stanley played when he met Gene Simmons. I’ve made it my mission to learn every kiss song in bass and maybe guitar, this one was a blast to learn on the bass! Rock on, god bless, and I hope to see more kiss soon! 🤟🏻
I started listening to Kiss in 1982 at age 6, thanks to my dad when he bought Creatures of the Night. Along with other bands, like Black Sabbath, Kiss lead to my love of metal and then many many years later picking up a guitar. I had the Kiss Alive I album, which my parents bought for me second hand and I loved it.
Ace Frehley doesn’t use his middle finger to do this “hiccup” effect at 4:02.
He does it with the pick, kinda like when you’ll do a pinch harmonic, but just apply more pressure with the thumb, muting the string in the downstroke, and hitting the note with the upstroke.

What a coincidence, jammed this whole album last night at work, love old KISS. Pretty much how I first started playing when I was a kid was trying to emulate Ace. For as big as they are/were I still feel like Ace was very underrated as a guitarist

Yeah, great song. That part at the end you said you'd never heard before was moved to the end of She on Alive II, it leads into Ace's solo. They expand on it quite a bit. Check it out, it's the same part and comes from this song.

Many people don't realize that guitarist have styles that are unique to them, almost like a language. Once you learn their dialect it gets easier to figure it out. Add to that, KISS doesn't go out of it's way to be too complicated. They just play the music they want. "ALIVE" started my addiction as well!
Yeah I discovered Kiss when I was around 8 except for me that was in the 70s. Also I can learn Kiss and many other straightforward rock songs in about the time it takes for the song to play. I've been doing that for years. It just takes experience and ear training. There was no TH-cam lessons when I started playing. It was just put on the record and learn it.
Yep! I do the same thing! After a while, playing just becomes natural. I had one whole lesson back in '78 and was thoroughly bored! So, I went to the library, took out a couple books, learned chords, and went from there!
It's ear training by experience & it's sort of like a muscle, it becomes stronger the more you use it. Also, once you've learned a couple of a bands songs, you get the feel for how they write & which keys they prefer, that is, until they switch tunings on you.
But it's not like KISS songs are like learning Steely Dan. They're not too known for their complexity. I learned this song in the time it took to play the video as well. Not a good or bad thing but just is.
This is a killer tune off their self titled. The vocal switch, solo was classic kiss, and the ending is just GROOVY
I agree that the change in vocals is great along with the group harmonies coming towards that hard rocking end that really changed the pace of the song. It's a great song.

Know just what you mean about Alive! What a record buying experience in the mid 70s. "Life changer" indeed. Between 70s David Bowie, Black Sabbath, Kiss and original AC/DC, well, that's a lot of powerful impact on our young, ROCK loving minds! And I'm still so grateful.
Back to KISS, and as a near lifelong guitar player myself, I want to say that the ACE FREHLEY solos of all Kiss albums from s/t through Dynasty have remained, fresh, thrilling and absolutely essential to me. Songs within songs. Great phrasing, visceral impact and absolutely perfect for each song at hand! Don't forget great solos like Got Love For Sale, 100,000 Years, Makin' Love, Goin' Blind, Love Her All I Can, Strange Ways, the Alive! version of Rock Bottom, Plaster Caster, Parasite, Save Your Love, She, Got To Choose, obviously Deuce, and a bunch on his killer solo album of '78 ⚡Rock on, Marc

Man I don't think I've heard this either, it sounds like Christine, firehouse & I can't place the third song all put together, especially Gene's 1st verse. Kiss was definitely the big craze, I listened to Kiss Alive II until it wore out, the big double album, you open it up and it's just them all on these huge platforms. I was 6 or 7 when that came out, my babysitters son who was in high school turned me on to that and Dirty Deeds. I was corrupted forever hahaha.
I am a self taught Guitar player, with the help of some music theory from my grammar and high school trombone playing years. In 1975 I heard kiss for the first time, dressed to kill album, room service was the first song. I fell in love with them, their sound and ever since Ace Frehley has been a huge influence on my playing and style. You hit the nail right on the head and made a valid point when figuring out songs. Over a period of time , your ears become “Seasoned” and when you hear certain chords or Melody’s you instantly understand what and how the music is played. So it’s easier to figure out how to play certain songs. Unlike Dream Theater or any of these Bands with ultra complex chords, scales, and alternating time signatures. Over a period of time, you learn the “System” so to speak. I can hear a lot of Keith Richards/Rolling Stones chords in Paul’s playing, Ace too for that matter. Especially in their first three albums. Great video keep them coming...
Thank you for doing this video on KISS and Ace Frehley stuff. At a young age of 5, I too found Rock-'n'-roll thru KISS. Ace's Licks was the Silver lightning bolt that strucked me to play the guitar. 😎
The last section was indeed added on to the end of "She" with an extended Ace guitar solo included when KISS added "She" to their live set after Dressed to Kill was released. You should definitely check out the live performance of "She" from the Midnight Special tv show from April, 1975. It was actually a live performance and not pre-recorded like most musical shows were at that time and included one of my favorite live Ace solos of all time. He is using his 1973 Les Paul deluxe Tobacco burst and is completely in the zone. Ironically Paul is using the very rare 1975 Gibson Midnight Special in White(pretty much looks like the L6-S with a bolt on neck) during that tv performance. This performance can be found on Disc I of the Kissology Volume I DVD set and all over TH-cam as well. They dominate in those early performances and you can just see and hear the hunger and growing confidence when they take the stage. I would have given anything to see them live in that 1973-1975 period because you can tell just by watching any footage of that era that they were unstoppable. Unfortunately, I didn't see them for the first time until 1979 and by then they were just not the same band even though Peter and Ace were still in the band.
Everything you said about KISS being the beginning of your love for rock and metal applies to me too. KISS was loud and spectacular and just what I needed when I first discovered music.

I grew up in a roller rink, essentially, so "I was made for loving you" was the first song to send me into my "KISS Army" mindset. I was born in October 1974, so not even a full year after their debut album was released. I'll be 47 in a few months, and I've gotta say that KISS has been ever-present throughout my life. Timeless even while they're alive.

It's originally a song called "Acrobat" which was on the box set but they dropped the vocals and renamed it "Love Theme from KISS" when they needed move songs for the first album.
One of my favorite deep tracks. I think it would've been a good song to unleash an extended solo live.
1976 I was 12 years old, I had just moved back to the USA after living in South America. I watched the Paul Lynde Halloween Special on TV and saw Kiss for the first time. I so identify, my life was changed. I got the Kiss Originals album for Christmas that hear and went to the Kiss Alive concert in 1977. First concert ever! After years of wanting to, I now getting closer to playing some of their tunes. Can't begin to say how many times I went hoarse in my room trying to sing this stuff.

4:56 You might recognize that cool switchover at the end of the song as the lead-in to Ace's solo after "She" on Alive. As a matter of fact, Anthrax plays this switchover at the end of their cover of "She" on the Kiss My Ass tribute album

It's been forever since I've heard it. Its a great song. It's also on their live album "You Wanted the Best". Kiss was all I needed when I was a kid. I got into them right after Destroyer came out. I can remember when Rick and Roll Over came out. I was hooked on kiss, and rock and roll!
Back min the early 2000's they released a live compilation CD called "You Wanted The Best" or something like that. Let Me Lnow was one of the songs they included in this. The live version was extended out, added a break where the song should've ended, went into another guitar solo... Cool version of a cool song. (they didn't do the other part from the original that most know as the lead-in to Ace's guitar solo from Alive...)
I love Let Me Know. It's got class, especially the smooth acapella vocals at the end. I listened to the 1st album constantly when I was 16. The lick at the end is fun to play, especially when you're entertaining guests.
I love Kiss! My favorite bits were from their debut to Love Gun. Even loved their solo albums from '78.

I took a quick glance through the comments and I didn't see anyone mention this bit of trivia about this particular song. The song was originally called Sunday Driver, and it was written when Gene and Paul were still with Wicked Lester. It was going to be on the bands debut album. But when Gene and Paul decided to end that group and form KISS, Gene decided to change the name of the song as well.

Love the Les Paul Custom I have one too and I never understood why they put black knobs on it...Since there is so much gold on the guitar I changed mine to gold top hats and they look great!

The part of the song after the break was also plated on the Alive album. At the end of the song She, there is the same break in the music. Then Ace plays the exact same thing to lead into his famous solo at the end of She.
That part at the end reminds me of what the Yardbirds once called a “Rave Up.” Surprised you didn’t recognize it-the used it on Alive! at the end of “She.”

Kiss influenced me much like they did you. It was also the Alive album I was completely fascinated with at first too in fifth grade.
Ace was very timid when it came to singing at first. He wrote Cold Gin but Gene sang it simply because Ace was not confident enough in his singing. I’ve seen Ace sing the second verse live more recently so obviously that’s changed. This song could have had a lot of Ace’s influence. You’d have to check the credits to see who wrote it. Ace was one of the better song writers, in my opinion. His solo album did much better than the other three.
Nope, you are wrong my friend, Ace's solo album did not do the best as far as album sales, that was Gene's!! Ace is the only one to have a hit though. Gene's album has sold more units than the other 3 but you know what? I think HE bought those!! LOL. I really would not be surprised to find out he and Paul bought a bunch of their own albums once Ace had the hit lol. Now check this out - listen to Parasite on the original studio album, did you know that is Ace singing that chorus? "Parasite baby" that part, supposedly it's Ace doing it but he has never actually owned up to it for some reason. Many people think it's Paul because Paul did it live, I know when I first heard it I had already heard Ace singing Shock me so when I heard Parasite I was able to pick out that it is his voice.

Alive II provided the same intro for me, with the pictures on the inside and back, etc. I bought it in the late 70s for $5 from an older cousin who received it as a Christmas gift but did not want it (that is over $15 in current dollars for a used record, to give an idea of how much more affordable music is today). I still have that album so arguably I got my money's worth!!

The original name of the song was in the beginning: "Sunday driver" and one of the first songs Gene and "Stanly" played to each other, when they met at a friend's house.

Great video! Ace Frehley may not be a technical genius like Eddie Van Halen,Satchel(Steel panther), Randy Rhoads etc., but he knew how to hit all the right notes in the right places for KISS's style.

In Sonic Boom they had a song called Stand where Paul and Gene did different verses, and in Monster they had Take Me Down Below where they both sang a verse
You know what might be an interesting video for you to do? "The timeline of Ace Frehley's guitar playing" . Those early days of KISS he played a lot of similar solo's that had much more of a blues sound, the early days of rock and roll sound. But as Ace grew and expanded his guitar work during his solo career was different, like when he was in Frehley's Comet he was playing more stuff that was inline with the 80's hair metal type of stuff, even going so far as to put a Kahler on his Les Paul, Oh the crime!! His most recent albums his playing still rings of the blues influences but every solo is greatly different from the previous ones and he got much heavier with his overall sound. As a pretty basic guitar player I love his early KISS solo's more when I am playing along because I can actually play some of those LOL. You can knock them all out of the park but for me I just keep right on playing rhythm when he takes off on Shock Me lol.

Gene and Paul were introduced to each other by mutual friend and musician Steve Coronel, who was not only a member of Wicked Lester, but had a hand in writing a few early KISS songs as well. As the lore goes, Steve said to Gene, "Remember when you said you thought you were the only one you knew who wrote songs? Well, Stan, here (Paul's real name is Stanley Eisen, as many of us know) is a songwriter, too." Gene, being skeptical and slightly confrontational upon hearing so, said to Paul (again, Stan at the time), "Oh, really? Play something of your own." He played this very song for Gene on the spot, only the title of it then was "Sunday Driver," not "Let Me Know." When Paul (Stan) was done, Gene admitted aloud, "Hmmm, well, that's, um...not bad." Meanwhile, as Gene remembered, "I said to myself about Paul's songwriting, 'WOW! This guy's WAY better than me!'"
Great video. KISS was my starter band for rock too. Try to check out the Wicked Lester songs and you shall truly understand the sound of KISS and how it matured
