  • The Trak Racer TR8 and Next Level Racing GT-Track both come in at under $1000 and are targeted at the high-end, "serious" sim racer. That being said, which one is actually better? Today, I'll be telling you just that.

    Can't disagree with your conclusion. I pondered that same choice and liked the TR8 style, but ultimately went with the GT Track because of cost (free shipping), greater mobility, and smaller footprint. Additionally I've been able to 3d print holders for my drink and various remote controls. Now I've draped it in garland and Christmas lights to look like a sleigh.

    Nice comparison. I bought a GT Omega Titan cockpit but if the TR8 had been in stock and on sale in Oz I would have bought that instead. I liked the Trak Racer support arm you showed, I wonder if it'd fit my tubular cockpit frame (5 inches in diameter)?

      What’re your thoughts on the GT-Omega?

    • @SuperEvenSteven
      @SuperEvenSteven 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @OC Racing the assembly was a bit tricky since it didn't come with instructions, but I looked on YT and found Karl Gosling's assembly and review which helped me out. The cockpit frame is perfect for my fanatec CSW 2.5; however, the foot plate does have a little bit of flex when I use my Fanatec V3 pedals with brake kit. The price for the cockpit was quite reasonable after discount codes so I'm pretty happy with it. The RS9 seat is pretty comfortable too.

    I can’t believe how expensive these things are. I don’t see the value in something that offers very little to no customization.

    • @OCRacing
      @OCRacing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      They’re certainly expensive… then again, this is an expensive hobby. By customization, do you mean compared to an aluminum extrusion rig?

    • @smokingrubber
      @smokingrubber 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes they're expensive considering they're just some steel and a seat. I raced on a $20 steel sawhorse for years. I have a GT Track now and I love it ... but I'm not $980 faster I promise you. Yeah I'm sure I'm faster now but I was pretty quick before, to be honest. Now it's more realistic and more fun, and the money is already spent but the fun is still here, so I'm not regretting anything. If you're handy you can certainly build something that's perfect for you at a much lower price. You can either spend time or money on it.

    • @OhItsThat
      @OhItsThat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OCRacing Yeah. I sound like a broken record I know but I’m always taken back by how much these prefab chassis cost and how little room for growth there is for that kind money.
      I can do so much stuff with my P1x and GT1 EVO and I don’t need to buy it from SimLab. I can bolt anything to it anywhere I want. I can completely reconfigure it to a full on Formula chassis. I’m just throwing stuff out there but you get it. Have you ever had one of these suckers?

    the GT track i dont think can support above 10-15nm im using their wheelstand which is the GT track minus the £500 chair. i find that the GT CSL DD pro has too much movement on the base. I do not know how they can justify £500 for a fucking seat. every other brand is like £250-£350 and they are all better seats than that. Its why im returning my track racer stand. as the stand struggles with 8nm and has too much movement for me. Im returning it and buying a Track Racer TR160. if i spend £500 on the GT track seat well i'd be wasting my money as i gotta upgrade the rig in the future. makes no sense. for almost £700 for the full cockpit cant handle 15+nm an overpriced chair. totally not worth it imo

  • @dlugsch
    @dlugsch 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    IMO, I would skip anything Next Level Racing, GT Omega, or Trak Racer. These companies are all about marketing and have inferior products to others out there. Had a Next Level F-GT and was very disappointed in it for the price I paid, had a lot of flex and the seat was trash. My picks would be Sim Lab (GT1 Evo or P1X) if you're in Europe, or Advanced SimRacing (ASR 3/4/6) if you're in North America. I ended up with an ASR4 and am completely satisfied. Aluminum profile is the best option, it has no flex and gives you almost unlimited adjustment. I don't think it's even worth considering these non-profile cockpits at all. They have flex and mounting options for accessories are severely limited.
    Another mistake people make is getting one of the reclining seats from Next Level/GT Omega/Trak Racer just like the one on the GTTrack in the video. These are just rebranded versions of the same crappy Alibaba "gaming chair" with a mount on the bottom. You don't want these because they have flex in the seat reclining adjustment. They also have very low quality fake leather and foam. A fiberglass bucket seat is the only way to go in my opinion, especially if you have a stiff brake pedal. The trak racer ones are decent for the price, but I would go with a real one made for cars as it will have thicker fiberglass. Cheapest is NRG, best for wider waists is cobra/corbeau, best for comfort and overall quality is Sparco, OMP, or Recaro.

  • @IvanVT27
    @IvanVT27 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Totally serious cuestion, why would anyone want to strap themselves to a sim racing rig??? I mean, I get the inmersion aspect and stuff but it just seems so overpriced, like 80usd for a harness????? I think it is easier (and cheaper) to go to a scrapyard and buy some car seat belts hahahaha. I dont mean to offend anyone, you do whatever you want with your money, its just that I cant see the point of the 80usd harness; if it was 15usd ok, but paying so much for "fake" seat belts...

    • @OCRacing
      @OCRacing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So, in terms of using a racing harness when sim racing, it's unnecessary 99% of the time. However, here are a few reasons as to why I like having one:
      1 - It makes the seat look cooler.
      2 - "slight" immersion....
      3 - If I ever want to add a motion platform system, a racing harness will keep me in place instead of moving around the seat.
      4 - virginity protection
      In terms of the $80 price tag of the Trak Racer seat belt, it's certainly asking for A LOT. However, it doesn't feel or look like a "fake" seat belt in any way - it really feels like they ripped it out of a real track car. $80 is still a lot, and I wouldn't pay that much for a sim racing seat belt, it does feel a whole lot more expensive than $15 though....
      In essence, the whole idea of having a racing harness for your sim rig really just comes down to personal preference and investment. For some people, sim racing is their prized possession and ultimate hobby, thus investing money into a racing harness gives them satisfaction and joy. For others, sim racing is less serious and a whole lot more casual, in that sense, a seat belt makes no sense and might even seem silly.

      @@OCRacing thanks for the response, really apreciate it! As you said, we spend on our hobbies as much as we want or can afford, also I didnt think of the motion sim part.
