No question... just thank you from the bottom of my heart. I've learned so much from you! To pay you back, I've made up cards with your info on them so ANYone I talk to or see has a dog. I tell them you've been an integrative and holistic Vet for decades and you are an Animal Angel on Earth! That you have free videos on just about every subject and even if it's to be more informed prior to your Vet visit or to understand the why, how and what to do... YOU ROCK!!! THANK YOU
I've been feeding your recipe for my Dachshunds for 6 yrs... they are THRIVING!

Lynne, I would be interested in buying a copy of those cards in order to shorten my search for answers. Also, I'm interested in the Dachshund recipe. My dacshund is overweight on conventional food. I am feeding a gently processed raw. My shih tzu has constant yeast issues and allergies that made the vet put her on hydrolized protein. The vets seem very conventional, and keep giving the same med. I'm going to see if I can find any of the vets mentioned - holistic , and/or integrative. I just don't think repeating the same meds all the time, without even offering a probiotic, is good for either dog.

@@aprilbaxter2578 working on a couple things right now. I just went to a business card template on my WORD processing, BUT, that mode doesn't let you keep your results for making more later. I need to look into Avery Labels website to find one to use as I made up some for the Carnivore Proper Human Diet that my husband and I are on from learning about what dogs should eat from Dr. Becker. There's a list of those doctors too that are important for humans to watch and learn from. So, I'll get back to you. I'm no expert, I've started out as close to her recipe as I could due to my one Dachshund being allergic to chicken, and switched the protein choice to ground beef, the chicken wings to dried and finely ground egg shells for the calcium, and calf liver for the chicken liver in her recipe. That recipe in its pure form can be found --along with the chart (you have to pause the video to read it well) for how much to feed your dog based on weight and activity level. It's the video with Dr. Becker and Rodney Habib on Feeding your dog using a recipe you can find all ingredients at your local grocery store. The only ingredient I couldn't find there was kelp powder, which I found at Sprouts - health food store.

@aprilbaxter2578 transition her from dry to the wet version of her food for a couple days. I also used scrambled eggs after that for a couple of days and then used my recipe and gently seared the patty on each side for a few seconds in a frying pan. They are very scent oriented and the aroma gets them ready for a treat! They easily go from on the pan slight cooking to raw after that.
I don't know if this is the proper and accepted way to transition, but it's what I did and it worked.

@aprilbaxter2578 My local grocery store & Costco.
      4 ingredients
Hamburger - Costco 6.5 to 7 lb pack cut in half - one half per batch. I make 2 batches
Sardines in WATER - grocery store or Big Lots 4 cans (2 cans per batch)
Oysters in WATER - grocery store 1 can - 1/2 can per batch (I physically separate them in half by size to be equal after draining them)
Eggshells - dried and very finely ground.
      2 medium size bowls
      Food Processor
      Cookie scoop
      Rubber Spatula
Snack or Sandwich sized zip bags (depends on if the amt your SMALL dog eats fits in that size) (50-55 per each 2 batch prep)
      💥 MIX....
3 oz of beef or chicken hearts (chicken is waaaay easier - my husband grinds the beef heart f for me as I used to have to filet it as one dog is allergic to chicken)
3 oz of beef or calf liver
2 tsps of finely ground eggshells
1/2 can of oysters IN WATER
2 cans of sardines IN WATER
.... into the Food Processor and blend
      💥 Add to first bowl
      💥 Repeat
      💥 Add to second bowl
💥 Add 1/2 of the hamburger meat broken up into pcs in first and other 1/2 into the other bowl
💥 Mix as you would for making meatloaf.
💥 Scoop two cookie scoops into each snack bags and zip closed after all bags are filled.
💥 Lay into box that works for your freezer size and can handle 50-55 bags. I use a New Balance shoe bag.
💥 Put in freezer and take out bags of meals to the the day before you need to use them.
💥 I even put a 1 cup pyrex measuring cup of water in the microwave for 45 secs them put the two snack bags in them for a bit to warm the patties up before putting into their metal food bowls.
💥 Wash bowls after every meal.
      My dogs are 12 - 15 lbs.
I use 2 cookie scoops per snack sized bags and get about 50-52 bags filled in total from the 2 batch prep.
It takes me approximately 1 to 1.5 hrs on a day before trash day.
Set up a small plastic grocery bag where you prep to immediately put trash in after use (i.e. sardine & oyster cans and paper towels used).
I use the cabinet above my work area to hang one handle of the bag between the two joining cabinet pulls.
Always wipe down your countertops with antibacterial spray.
I even pick a clean paper towel off to open the dishwasher handle with, to put rinsed off Food Processor parts into for cleaning after I'm done.

Dr. Becker thank you thank you for this talk! One of my guys are 17yrs old (cat) and he has been on raw for years. Recently he started to show some kidney issues so I have to bring him back for bloodwork again to see if things have improved. The vets are trying to get me to buy their prescription food and I keep asking 'well what about it is better than raw food? What in this food is going to help his condition?' they can't tell me... they keep saying "Well this is a successful food and formulated by a vet. Cats on this diet see improvements" to which I then ask 'are they not normally feeding a conventional pet food diet? If I am going from raw to this food which has grain and corn in it and meat by-products I don't think it would do him any good'. So there has been some back and forth but long story short - conventional veterinarians don't seem to know ..

My question as well! Same boat - kinda - Dog with liver cancer. Vet just pushes the Science Diet and when questioned why "because it's been studied and formulated by veterinarian nutritionists"?! Your question indicates 1 reply there is none??

Most veterinarians think that any ailment a dog gets (that is on home cooked balanced/raw balanced) is caused by a deficiency in Science Diet.

Happy to hear about the new cookbook! I pretty much feed my cats and dogs the way you do I use store bought raw and I make their food too. I have been using your homemade dog food recipe from 7 years ago! I add taurine when I make it for my cats, but I'm always looking for recipes for cats and don't find much. Hoping your new book provides recipes for cats.

Excellent information! Your are 100% right! Many raw or cooked fresh food companies are sprouting quickly and not all are good. Understanding balance is key! Some are ‘selling their way’ and no other way is good. That’s a red flag! PLUS discussing environmental impacts is spot on! AND mentioning detoxing!!! We had to deal with a toxic mold home that made us all sick and detox was so important! Thank you for taking the time to explain the cautions people do need to be aware of while helping us feed better with other care!

Dr. Becker, an answer to the first question might also be thatSusan Thixon puts out a list of foods that they have researched. They send out questionnaires to all the dog food companies and the companies send back the questionnaire with proof. Then she releases the top dog food companies. All different categories. You have to pay for the list though.

    • @treasuretrovel3816
      @treasuretrovel3816 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Susan Thixton asks for a 10 dollar donation to fund her trips to attend AAFCO annually. AAFCO is an organization designed to promote and protect big corporation pet food companies by standardizing and coordinating labels. Yes, it does result in requirements for dog food to have the minimally established amounts of recognized, essential nutrients. One could argue that that is way better than nothing.
Susan Thixton's list is of human grade raw (frozen and freeze dried) and frozen cooked dog and cat foods from companies for which she can verify their sources. To be on her list, they have to submit receipts that prove their sources for all ingredients.
I recommend that owners start with that list. Most owners are brainwashed into thinking they can only pick one brand and that is what their poor dog must eat day in and day out. For example, a friend of mine decided to just feed kibble saying that freeze dried raw was too expensive. But, I told her, you can easily afford to give freeze dried raw 2 meals a week. And, you can afford to give a can of packed in water no salt sardines a week, a couple tbsps of frozen wild blueberries a week and a couple meals of home cooked, lean meat and carrots that the humans are eating.

    • @treasuretrovel3816
      @treasuretrovel3816 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Consider giving Susan Thixton more than 10 for The List that is kept up to date annually and is a huge amount of work.

Diatomaceous earth is tricky. I started adding a pinch of food grade DE to my cat's wet food, and he gobbled it up. No complaints.
Within 1 week of DE, he started throwing up furballs all over the house. He is 16 years young, with long Flamepoint Siamese fur. We are no strangers to the occasional fur ball, but the DE-induced furballs were something else.
If I fed him DE in the AM, then there would be another hairball waiting for me to clean up when I got home from work.
He continued to produce furballls for about 30 days straight, with the occasional day off here and there, when I decided not to feed him DE.
Eventually the furballs got smaller and smaller until they stopped. I figure he must have run out of old hair & debris to expel from his system.

I’ve been using meal mix for years, and bought your first recipe book many years before that… my dogs have always been so healthy, but learning more… and now supplementing with a lot of your specific nutrients, krill oil, eye support, joint support etc. I was told I was using “synthetic vitamins” and am now wondering if these are synthetic or not, if ok? Sometimes I get confused if ok to ad these if am using meal mix? I am treating specifically an older dog, who is very healthy, but only now has collapsed trachea. (I believe from intubation for tooth removal). No heart condition (I think due to years of your Q10 liquid). Nothing else showed up wrong with him in his blood tests, stools etc. Thank you for all you are teaching and doing!

Hi Dr Becker, my dog we are trying to transition back onto raw food (she was on this before) then we went to a lightly air dried hard food.
We are not sure what to do because she is vomiting up within minutes of eating and we don’t know why. We have tried slightly cooking it; mixing small amount in with her hard food and all times she is bringing it back up again. Do you know why this is?
I wouldn’t think it would be due to bad meat as hasn’t been in her stomach long enough only seconds to a minute.
If you could kindly help us as we honestly don’t know what to do that would be super helpful and appreciated

Can you talk about the freezing process for raw food and what ingrediants it may denature or harm? I heard taurine is denatured when food is frozen and needs to be added back after it's dethawed. Is that true?

Hello, just wanted to thank you for all that you do! Love the videos....I have a 2 1/2 month Shih Tzu and just started introducing her to the raw diet and Open Farm, what are your thoughts about this brand?

    • @treasuretrovel3816
      @treasuretrovel3816 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Open Farm is human grade (their raw frozen and freeze dried and maybe their canned but not their kibble) and makes The List (by Susan Thixton, Truth about Pet Food). I use their freeze dried poultry formulations that contain poultry liver and also copper sulfate supplementation as a minor part of rotation but I do not use their ruminant formulas that contain ruminant liver and also copper sulfate (beef and lamb liver contains plenty of copper so more should not be automatically dumped in, in my opinion). Look up the Cornell article about excess copper found in modern dog livers from eating commercial foods (Dana Scott did a video on the paper on her you tube cannel, DogsNaturallyMagazine). . It is also my opinion that their canned (actually little cartons) also have too much grain carbohydrate. I buy them though as they are good quality and I use them as a minor part of the rotation.

At the moment I tend to change meals every day and sometimes he has a different meal at breakfast from his dinner. So he has a plan for a week which I tend to stick to about 95% time. So he gets a varied diet. What I get confused about ……should I feed the same thing all week or 2 weeks then change the food. He also get a wide selection of fruit and veg and various additives for allergies like colostrum , probiotics etc etc…… thankyou if you answer would be most helpful

Question: I make my dog home-made dogfood with chicken and organic brown rice. This last batch I boiled a whole onion in the mix... removed the onion so my dog (10# Chihuahua) couldn't eat it (I did). I used 6 lg. ckn legs (de-boned), 2 cans chick peas w/broth, carrots, celery. ( I removed the onion & celery for myself to eat)... will the fact that I cooked the ONE LG onion in the broth but removed it... will it harm my baby girl Raja - my 10# Chi?? This recipe made a huge batch of about 7 / 6 oz containers each, So, I'm thinking this onion would be very dilute in this HUGE batch. ? Raja likes the chick peas and carrots with the ckn/brown rice. Do I have to make a new batch - minus the onion??? * I never participated with your Q & A before.

Onions are a verified toxin for dogs. The concentration can determine if a dog gets acute clinical illness or slow poison. Dr. Becker recommends using a little bit of garlic as it is safe for dogs whereas onions contain a particular toxin and should never be fed to dogs. Given this information that is readily available, why are you trying to make onions happen for your poor Chihuahua? You should follow a recipes formulated by learned individuals such as Dr. Becker, Dr. Judy Morgan and The Dog Nutritionist (on youtube).

New subscriber here just ran across your channel just from scrolling about a few days ago…looking up Anatolian Pyrenees puppy information. My husband and I have just acquired two of those puppies from the Humane Society. One is eight weeks old. And the second is 10 weeks old …we did get them wormed from the Humane Society. They’ve had their first shot. So far …my question is we’ve had them for one week and we’re feeding themPurina puppy chow, the bag says with real beef and rice that’s what the bag says. My question is my husband and I go fishing a lot. Can we add fish into their diet and if so, do we need to bake it first in the oven or fillet it and give it to them raw this is fresh Fish from either the lake or the river because we go to both…
Also, mainly what we catch is like trout and catfish… are you here?
I have watched several of your videos, and I will continue binging on your videos because I have found out that the information you were putting out is totally different than what I’ve ever been told by any other vet, even though my gut always told me to do the opposite which in this case is pretty much what you are putting out which I really do appreciate …
    Blessings

Hi Dr Becker! My dog is 8 years old and have a little tumor in his penis. It just appeared a few days ago. I heard those tumors could be for not removing the testicles. Is it too late for my dog for that? What should I do? I love all your videos!! God bless you and your channel. ❤

I have an important question the help that you recommend in real food, your book. The vitamin mixture. Has changed their formula. The pill is much smaller and I’m wondering how to make the mix correct with a smaller portion of kelp.

    • @treasuretrovel3816
      @treasuretrovel3816 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

No, will not be nearly enough as it falls short on essential fatty acids, vitamins found in organ meat and has too much high carb. Dr. Becker's chicken recipes have white and dark meat at the very least. Go to The Dog Nutritionist channel on youtube and watch him formulate various recipes using beef, chicken, liver, eggs, calcium, etc.@@elbapowerdediamante2793

You talk about kale etc but do not mention that these foods are high in oxalates, which I believe have a similar effect on animal physiology as it does on human physiology - which is not good! Read Toxic Superfoods by Sally K Norton (I have no commercial relationship). - Dr B talks about oxalates at 18.15 so this comment partly falls away.

Dogs - what organ or organs does a dog have to property digest and absorb the nutrients in vegetables? And what about the toxins that are found in all vegetables? Why do you think dogs should eat vegetables? Dogs are carnivores just like humans. Your opinion would be appreciated.
