This was a fresh and very pleasant conversation.
I recently stopped watching most of fountain pen related channels as they all do and talk about exactly the same things in exactly the same way or talk about pens I'll never be able to afford because they're a lot more expensive than my car 😥, so, I only kept subscription on very few selected channels which now will include yours.
By the way, it's great to finally meet a fellow EF and F nibs user. While in school I found out I could study better with as much information as possible packed in a single paper sheet that I developed really small handwriting, for me no B or broader nibs are ever considered and only a very few Ms do the trick. My problem is that here in Mexico it's very difficult to get finer nibs, I've been trying for over a year to get an Homo Sapiens in F or EF and the importer doesn't bring them because they don't sell, the used market is too limited and buying online would be a lot more expensive due to customs fees here so I have to wait patiently for an opportunity 😢
    Greetings from Mexico.

Thank you! I really appreciate your comments, and I agree with you about nibs. The Homo Sapiens is a nice pen but there are quality control problems with their nibs. I would test one first before getting into them. Pilot has some great fine nibs and they have a broad range of prices and styles.

Good discussion! Oh yes we fountain pen collectors all have at least one pen that we love for the looks, not for the performance. Mine is a Visconti Millennium that I will never part with. But I can't stand writing with it 😆

Mine is the Conklin Duraflex. A nice looking pen and a poor writer.

The Pilot Prera is one of my favourite pens. I have been tempted to collect them as well.

I have an orange Rotring Core - I love it! It's so unique.

I was surprised by how well it wrote. They seem to becoming sought after.

I received a Rotring’s Core last year along with a bunch of some others discarded pens, unfortunately those came with no manuals, I was wondering what was the use of the ink window, turns out that in the body it can accommodate 2 international cartridges, so you can see if the one in the rear has ink or not in case that you switch the cartridge you’ll be able to notice that you have to replace the empty one. It’s an excellent pen to correct your grip, and the one that I get had a baby’s bottom problem that was corrected with some micro mesh passes, I like a lot to write with it, however, it has been difficult in Mexico to find a converter for it since it has a mechanism that retracts the cartridge when you open the pen, international converters does not work with it properly. The one that I own is an orange one too, however there’s a very interesting blue one that I love to get.
Excellent conversation about pens, thanks for sharing.

I recently received the Rotring Core and I quite like it as well, despite the odd shaped section. I use it for sketching rather than writing but it’s surprisingly great for both.

The Pilot Varsity is prolly the one you were thinking to be "hacked" to refill once the prefilled ink is all gone.
The Eco-T is more triangular shaped than the Eco (short for & pronounced like "economical") shaped more hexagonal if you care enough, you can pronounce it anyway you like, just wanted to let you know the more common pronunciation.
    Love your videos, God bless!

    • @PEIPenGuy

Yes the Pilot varsity was the one I was trying to remember and thanks for the information about Eco T. I actually thought it meant transparent!

This comment is coming late. The TWSBI ECO T is the more triangular version. It has a slightly rounded triangular grip and triangular finials. Fun video! I had a Rotting Core back in the day and lost track of it. I wish I still had it.

A nice conversation. I've a Rotring Art Pen (fine nib fountain pen, with a long body), but hadn't heard of the Core before. Ferris Wheel Press also makes a "Carousel" pen, plastic with converter, for much less than the very nice (which I'll get eventually) brass Brush pen. It also writes well.

    • @PEIPenGuy

I have the Art Pen too. I haven't tried the Carousel yet.

Steampunk is a correct description of FWP. I want to get one of their inks purely because the box is gorgeous - which it’s morally disturbing XD
I haven’t had a good italic from Kaweco yet, I have tried two.

    • @PEIPenGuy
      @PEIPenGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I haven't tried their inks yet either but I might pick up some of the sample chargers. I've come to the conclusion I'm not into stubs. Fine and extra fine and Japanese mediums for me!
Have you ever seen anything like the Rotring Core before? I might have to borrow it for a video.

    • @thuntz29
      @thuntz29 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@PEIPenGuy never! But I have heard good things about Rotring fps. It’s a strange and dare I say ugly pen? 😅 it looks like cargo pants just for the sake of cargo pants… no offence to your friend, we have different taste in fountain pens I guess 🤓
It’s always fun to see what other people like, in my corner of the world everyone is obsessed with teal pen and inks.
Btw I should recommend you some pen channels! Duddlebud, Adventure Denali, Gatgetstop321, Penfriends, and Olive Boy have great content!

It's actually a nice writer and looks like something out of science fiction. It seems to have been designed by someone who is a mad genius. I'll do a video about it.
I've been a fan of many of those channels and lately discovered Penfriends through Adventure Denali.

The @Conklin Duragraph was very disappointing to me. The original Omly flex didn’t flex and I could not remove the original nib to change it out to the supposedly upgraded app. It is such a beautiful pen I actually purchased several in my early Pen collecting days, but wound up not using them because they constantly dry it out when not in use

My messages keep getting away from me before I can proofread sorry about the misspellings but I think you get my drift. Really enjoyed your discussion. The eco-is a tremendous pen For every day use. I am encouraged to try the Ferris wheel press pen after hearing your review. I have two of their inks in beautiful glass bottles. I especially like the color jellybean blue, one of the original colors they came out with.

@@PEIPenGuy I haven’t gotten one in quite a long time. I don’t know if they’ve put a inner liner in the cap or improved anything about the nib and feed.

I enjoyed watching this! If I were to buy a fountain pen for my 16-year-old son, what would you recommend as a starter fountain pen? When we lived in England, all the boys had to write with a fountain pen so he really enjoyed it. My only concern is that he is a teenage boy so he could lose it so I don’t want it to be too expensive.

Anything by Pilot is usually good. The Pilot Metropolitan is around $35 and makes a great gift pen. It's well made and comes in lots of good colours. The Lamy Safari is also a good pen, and so are the TWSBI Go and Swipe.

Great video - thanks. I too dislike the Lamy fountain pens (except for the 2000), but have two Lamy Pico ballpoints, which are terrific little pocket pens. You should check out Waski Squirrel’s channel - he does a lot of reviews of vintage Eastern European pens from the communist era.
