- In this introduction video, I am going over my next project - a beautiful, low-mileage 1981 Suzuki GS550T. I will do a walk-around, cold start, and brief history of the GS550T. I recently bought this bike as a non-runner and will be featuring it in upcoming in-process videos as well as review and comparison videos with Honda's 1979 CB750K and Suzuki's own GS750E.
This was my first bike way back in 1983. Loved it. I wish I had one now for nostalgic reasons.
Right on!
I've got 2 of these I bought them "Not Running" just as you did, I'm 64 years of age and I thought it'd be a nice retirement project. That's what brought me to watch your video.. Liked and Subscribed!
Thanks, David! Good luck with the GS550s!
wow, that thing must've been kept indoors for many years.for a bike that was made when i was a jr in high school, its really nice.i wish i couldve aged that well.by comparison, im ready for the scrapyard.2 heart attacks & you could say i have burned valves, deeply scored cylinders, worn rings & constant rod knocks.im not complaining, i still have my sence of humor.
Right on! The older I get, the more critical the sense of humor becomes! I hope these machines will outlive me - I'm just a temporary steward. Hopefully, they will be in better shape leaving my garage than when they came in.🙂
That looks like its about as good of an example of that bike, that you could stumble across now days !
It is getting harder to find good, clean vintage machines!
Love the black and gold combo. Great looking bike Jon!
Thanks CJ. The black and gold always reminds me of the John Player Special liveried cars and bikes of the 1970's. I always loved that color combo. I didn't know that it was a cigarette company until much later!
@@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538 Yes! John Player Special F1 team. Same here w/ the cigarettes. LOL.
Got two of these in France !
Never get released here, only few gs550E
But was really popular in Germany and Holland. This is in my opinion the most desired version, with its 60-70s look already kinda a tribute to this area from Suzuki before going full 80s style with more square designs!
Right on!
Wow that's so nice wish myn was like that I paid 600 ures must be about 2000 now?. I put it in the (brothers)shed about 7yrs ago doesn't look too good. here in the UK gas is so expensive &I found it was only doing about 50mpg. anyway hoping this year to restore
Question myn has a higher back passenger seating not so flat as others ,has a back key is that correct or wrong seat everything else is as
Thanks enjoy
I'm not sure what the stock seat should look like on a UK model. It sounds like you may have an L model seat, but I'm not sure.
I'm headed to possibly buy one today, mint condition but 12,000 miles on it, is that too many miles?
If the overall condition is mint, as advertised, 12k miles isn't too many. Cheers!
