Cool!!! I just spent 3 years putting my 83 GS1100E rescue together. Finally got all of the gremlins worked out and have taken her on several 200 mile rides. The day I realized I finally solved my electrical problems was a very happy day. 😅 Will be following this project for sure.
Nice find. Can’t wait to see the series. Bringing back a lot of memories. I owned a 1982 and 1983 GS1100E. The ‘82 was my third bike and was stolen but I loved it so much I got the’83 as my fourth bike.
Yep. I had a silver '81 too. It had a Supertrap on it. I paid $450 and it only had 4500 miles on it. A back bumper side edge of a Chevy truck hit the fork head on and sent him flying. He parked it. So in '90 I bought it. Cleaned the float bowls, out a battery in and she fired right up. I had to replace the headlight bucket and a frame cover but that was it. It was a great bike ! I sold it so I could buy the '83. It also has some dump damage. The guy was coming home with some steaks on his lap. On a corner he saved the steaks and dumped the bike. So the steering stop on the rt side of the lower triple clamp broke and a top clamp nut hit the tank. So it's got one ding in the tank. I bought another red tank but it's rusty inside. I used electrolysis to clean it. That worked great. But I think I'm just gonna fix the ding and repaint the bike. The last owner wet sanded the tweedle out of it to shine er up. It looked great but now 33 years later the tank stickers are starting to poke out of the clear. But that color in the sun is unreal ! It has tiny gold and silver flake. So it glows like a neon light. I hope I can get it matched.
Man your killing me! I have a high milage `82 model compleat with the red Suzuki/Bell helmet I bought it, like 15 years ago, the owner actually broke down just before I left. I too have boxes of 70`s Cycle, Cycle world magazines, they are kinda tatered from years of use. keep up the Great work!
What a find. 4K miles, wow. Bought one with 15K back in 2011 and owned it for six more wonderful years. It was a museum piece and it looks like yours will be too. Good luck. Looking forward to updates.
I just bought a running one that needs a paint job, but is otherwise great for 2200 Canadian. Quite the steal!! I am looking forward to getting to know it.
Oh how I wanted a new GS1100E back in 1983, but as a very poor college student all i could do was stare at it in the local dealer's showroom. Jon, that is a beautiful bike and I look forward to seeing it on the road again!
I am also waiting for a dream bike: a pristine Yamaha SCR950 with 4,200 km on it. What a beautiful Suzuki. I love that old-school dash. You have a lot of reading there.
You are so lucky John, all the 80s bikes are on the east coast or Midwest here in California you don’t find this bikes anymore plus you can not register a bike with less than 7,500 miles it really sucks this state so enjoy where you are.
Hey Jon, I mentioned to you many moons ago that I had a 1982 GS1100EZ. What you have is very rare: A GS1100 with the black chrome exhausts intact! Looking forward to see how you attack the various suspect systems.
Really nice bike, 83 had the big end crank, I have an 82 it has a small end crank, which I’m currently having issues with, from what I’ve read the 83 crank is the desirable crank. Really nice find.
man, you've been finding your share of jewells lately. that thing is very low miles.a bike like that demanded a measurable amount of maturity back in the day.enough bike to get you in a bad position before you realize your in it.are you selling these bikes you fix up? if not, your gaining quite a collection.
Thank you! The GS1100E was such an animal back in the day. And though it has been drastically surpassed by modern hyperbikes, it will still get you in trouble if you're not careful. I do sell some and keep some for longer periods of time.
You won’t be disappointed when you get it running. I had the same 83 model, and it pulled like a train. Unfortunately I was T boned by a car. But, the good news is the idiot car driver wrecked his car when he hit me. His car was undrivable, but in spite of a bent frame I was able to ride my bike home. Hopefully you’ll have better luck with your bike.
Hi Jon,Scott from ny here, Great looking Suzuki you have there. That should be a great running, performing reliable bike you have there & will watch got your test ride on it. Btw,did you get a chance to do more dialing in if the Carb’s on the kz1000? Scott
Just got back from a test ride on the KZ1000. Jetting is close. I'm runing the 110 mains. It is still lean at 55mph and 0 to 1/16th throttle. It is also having a hard time holding a steady 1100 rpm idle. I'm still running the 20 idle jets. I tried the 17.5s but it makes the 55mph lean spot much worse. Fuel screws are only out 1/8 turn (more makes it worse). I raised the needles to the lowest clip and shimmed it up 1 shim (about 1/2 clip) and it's better. I may get the needles machined to add a lower groove. I'll try 112.5 mains first and see if that helps. Since this was a basket case I'm not even sure these are KZ1000 carbs.
Man, that is by far the cleanest original GS I've ever seen. And one of my favorite models, looks-wise: I keep hoping to luck into the 750E version of this some day when I have the space for more than one bike. By Suzuki forums, I assume you mean the GS Resources? I go by the username 'eil' there.
Thank you. I'm familiar with the GS resources forum but I posted to several Facebook GS groups. I will try to find you on GS resources the next time I'm on.
WOW! Under 5k miles and looks in perfect condition! Comes with a Lockhart oil cooler even! Of course in the right color. So where did this bike come from?
Very nice. I bought a new one in Aug. of ‘83 for $3600. I was only 22 at time but had to have it after a test ride at the dealer. Rode it for 4 yrs and then sold it because my new wife was worried. See someone added a oil cooler to yours. I think the naked sport bikes today are ugly. Went from a Suzuki GT380 to a ‘80 Honda Custom 750 to this. I did have a chance to ride a CB750F, but rode the Custom first and didn’t care about riding the F, but regretted it later even though I loved the Custom.
@@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538 sometime after I got the 750C, I worked next to a guy that had a silver 900F that I saw regularly. This is what got me thinking why in the heck didn’t I test drive the 750F. I wasn’t that much a cruiser fan, but after having my GT380, the 750C was so impressive.

Very cool piece of Super Bike history. I too have a bunch of old magazines from back in the day too !

What a score! Beautiful bike. I'm happy for you. I'd love to have one of those too. I'll be looking forward to this series.
Thanks Jeff!
It’s absolutely beautiful!
Thank you!
I've had my red one for over 30 years. Still sexy.
Right on! I think the '82-'83 GS1100s were the best looking of the GS1100s.

I'd be interested to see a comparison between that and the CB1100F from '83.
