it was extremely realistic and it was also made in 2005. the arc reactor, suit, flying scenes over the desert, etc, were all very well done for CGI in that time

MrGNugget apperantly the ending scene was bad because the studio was running short on time and they had to finish it in 2 weeks so they had to make all the last fight scene in 2 weeks

If CG is good you don't notice it. Sometimes it's good. Sometimes it's not. Either way it does make me slightly sad when I find out that almost nothing in a scene is real.

It was uneeded to animate his costume 90% of the time. He looked 1000x better in Civil War and that ending fight scene was unacceptable

I haven't seen the movie yet (I don't like movie theaters) but the cgi they highlight in this video is pretty bad. At 2:06 Chadwick Boseman's head wasn't properly aligned with the cgi body. You can see his head shifting right before it gets covered by his mask. 3:19 the suit cgi just looks really low budget. It reminds me of the power rangers show when they morph into their suits.

It wasn't as good as it could be is what's wrong. It looks good, yes, but it's easy to tell where full CG is. I can almost always tell which scenes have full CG Iron Man armor layered over RDJ's body, and it pulls you out of the movie.

No it wasn't. They made a physical suit of the Mark 2 for lighting reference but what you see in the film is CG.
Yeah, all of the heroes with skin tight suits in Marvel's movies have been weirdly unconvincing. For instance, Spider-Man's appearance in Civil War was remarkably bad. Ant-Man was somehow done better, though. And I feel like (at least for its time) Tobey Maguire's CGI Spider-Man was way more convincing, particularly in the face.

The CGI looks (in my opinion) so bad here, it looks like PS3 game. I really wanted a Creed style final battle between T'challa and Killmonger in where they both have Black Panther suits and they engage in a fist fight like true warriors not this overblown, CGI mess. Don't care about Disney coming in and saying "that's too bloody, too violence" because shooting people and seeing a building blow up in Civil War is okay with them.

Practical with CGI touch ups is almost always a better look, unless animators go balls to the wall to make it match real life quality.

Why does Black Panther even need to be animated? I can understand some scenes where he’s jumping or getting knocked back but when he’s just walking or running? I hope they improve on the sequel.

A lot of it needs to be replaced because its difficult to create a costume that looks as technologically advanced as wakandan tech. Seams and wrinkles is a big issue. Also, his suit stores kinetic energy which is difficult to visually show that in real life.

Yes. It was terrible. The live action fights look cool and i love the choreography in the waterfall scenes. But when the black panther is in costume its terrible. Especially seeing how good it looked in civil war. His movements especially feel like theres no weight to them. Theyre supposed to have catlike movements but they end up feeiling weightless. Such a shame cuz its a really good movie.
Marvel Films aren’t known for their groundbreaking CGI and Camerawork.
They’re known for their groundbreaking ambition and character development.
The story here and how it connects with the overall greater universe is what makes the film so great.
Below average CGI and way too much of it, it was quite noticeable while watching the film.

Well considering most of the movie takes place in that fantasy place where Black Panther and the tribe live and the fancy high tech they have you would need a lot of CGI, I don't know what else they could've done without much CGI but if you got a idea how they could've worked around it I'm all ears

IMO the visuals in BP dragged me out of the experience. Firstly, when you draw so much attention to the CGI with these unrealistic camera movements, like the exploding car shot and the climax on Wakanda, it's hard not to notice.
The worst part for me is how disingenuous the landscapes feel--it's pretty hard to get taken in by these beautiful African landscapes and actors commenting "wow it looks so beautiful" when I know in the back of my mind it's all just been filmed in a studio in Atlanta. Obviously there's not a lot the VFX artists can do about that... I just wonder if it would be so much to ask for Marvel with their huge bucks to actually send their actors to a real location for once. The Norway scene in Thor 3 had similar issues.

In defense of Ragnarok that entire scene in Norway was supposed to take place in an NYC back alley (as shown in the trailer) but they changed it in post-production. Could've been better still.
I heard that too. I'm not blaming the post production team, they always do a great job. But I just think filmmakers have gotten kinda lazy in relying on VFX teams to pick up the pieces, and as a result, sometimes the films are worse off for it. Landscapes seem to be one of the hardest things to get right, cause they're deceptively simple.

@@winnywinnarts I'm saying that that's not true. The Russo Brothers' cut-y style allowed for it not to be so obvious, but in all the movies Black Panther has been in, his suit is CGI almost 100% of the time. Check out some of the VFX breakdowns for Civil War and Black Panther to see what I mean.

I love all the people saying “the cgi was terrible” like why don’t you do cgi with hundreds of small pieces and see how it turns out.. not everything turns out perfect and with all the cgi they had to do they can’t get every detail like other movies. I get most CGI but it baffles me why they feel the need to resize the heads of the actors to make them look smaller when the helmets are on. I know bobblehead effect but still after you notice it, its almost unseeable.

Either the CGI looks video-game level bad or video-games has improved incredibly in graphical fidelity over the past several years.
@@PrabhablyAGoodTH-camr well there is a photorealistic expectation with modern big budget movies. with games we still can ignore a lot of things because it's a game. I think we are still 10-20 years off truly photorealistic gaming.
I do think some CG can look bad because we don't have anything to relate to. Impossible camera movements and physical things that don't exist in real life can make CGI look bad even if the CG itself is well done.

What a weird topic for a video when the CGI has been one of the main criticisms of the film. Drawing more attention to it is bizarre. Those Rhinos...yikes.
The only thing I did not like with this film was the end animations. Looked to plastic and fake for a big budget movie. Otherwise it was okey :)

i think they just color-correct the eyes, like darken it so it fits the suit better. not full on reconstruction CGI it.
Mike's L4IR most of the movie is CGI like a video game, to me that seems lazy. What happened to practical sets and effects. I'm all for a mix of practical and CGI like most movies nowadays, but this movie was very distracting with the amount of bad CGI. Pretty good story I'll give it that.
I agree that CGI is stupid and sometimes not appropriate but to call it lazy is not ideal, have you even taken a computer and tried to animate in it? It's not something you just click one button to do, cgi is hard to learn to cod, to draw, to move computer image is not lazy, and is why movies nowadays is expensive plus computers running these things. I'm a graphic designer and I wish one day I'm able to do something like that even a 3D movie, but even molding in Maya or Blender isn't a one day thing so please don't say cgi is lazy it's not.
DrugStar1136 I don't mean the process of CGI is lazy, the guys who do it are amazing (especially when done well). What I think is lazy is the creative forces such as the director choosing the easy option (CGI) instead of; finding shooting locations, practical sets, real martial arts performance capture.

I get so hype when you get stuff like MadMax where they actually go in the locations to shoot instead of googling rhino images lmao can't believe a multimillionaire company using google reference image lol. 😂 I really laughed when he said that and to think it's a movie about Africans I bet they didn't even go to Africa.
Huh, the only CGI that I found really obvious while watching it were the Rhinos. They did a fantastic job by making everything look so real.

All these people saying everything looked like trash, I bet they couldn't do even a tenth of what the animators did. Second, they say it's all bad, but don't say how they can make it better. What's the point of criticism if you can't provide a reason for it? CGI hating seems like the cool thing to do these days it seems. Any comic book movie needs to have some level of CGI.
1. That's a fallacy. You can criticize without being able to do better.
2. It's better to just say it's bad or how it was bad than to assume how it should be fixed when they are not professionals.

The killmonger suit forming CGI was amazing.
The waterfall fight between T'Challa and Killmonger was waaayyyy better than their final fight on the train tracks
I think a lot of the CGI in this movie is quite bad. Marvel should've give them more time.
The cgi in Black Panther was some of the worst in the MCU. Even phase 1 movies looked better

The effects of the specific company are usually stellar. My only explanation was that they used most of their members in Infinity War, and they were left with the bare minimum to finish this film.

As much as I liked the movie, it depnded way too much on CGI and you can tell that certain parts were'nt given the time or budget to look good.
Watching this one year after the passing of Chadwick Boseman certainly hits different, You will be missed. Rest In Peace Chadwick

This had the worst cgi of all the marvel movies. Still was amazing though.

That's how all film making is
They're actually paid decently, just WAY overworked. Likely 80+ hours a week during crunch time. Method pays animators roughly 80-130k due to overtime.
When you take into account that actors make WAY more then that, no they're not paid all that much. Especially when considering that when you think about it for stuff like marvel movies it's not the actors that really bring in views but the action scenes.

This video changes the way I see these movie has it is one of my favourite. I did not think this much CGI needed to be in this movie. Of course most movies have CGI and “movie magic” but this movie almost every scene was made out of CGI, I will still love this movie, they just should of died down the CGI a bit, it’s a ‘Live-Action’ movie and an animated movie. Just hope the second one has a little less.
