    Thundercat deserves more recognition, his contribution made To Pimp A Butterfly what it is. You can listen to his intricate bass lines running all over the album.

      To Pimp a Butterfly is an all-round goddamned masterpiece, I will never forget the fact it lost out to Taylor Swift for album of the year. But it also made me aware of Thundercat and I'm about 99% sure I've seen all the recorded performances and unfortunately I missed his show in my hometown this year but I will not give up till I'm catch him live!

      There is no "deserving" in music. There were and still are loads of Thundercats who disappeared without trace. Fans of great successful artists who are not themselves musicians seldom realise this truth but musicians usually know it if they are experienced. Fans want to believe that their heroes are super special and this habit involves refusing to understand that there were thousands of amazing talents like this who died and disappeared without trace. Also the "super special" thing is the relic of an authoritarian idea - the kind of idea that people like Kendrick Lamar and Thundercat would not endorse. So I expect the usual bafflement and avoidance that comes with ideas that are difficult to understand and accept. And I do not expect to hear anything but abuse or silence from anyone who has read this comment. Bring it on you evil EVIL young DOGS.

    He might be the best bass player on the planet (right now). His ability to do ridiculous things on his 6 string are incredible and he's a helluva musician. There's a whole bunch of these guys who play together, Thundercat, Anderson Paak, Flying Lotus, Kendrick Lamaar, they all do stuff on each other's records but Thundercat seems to be the one they all want to work with because he's a genius. And from a very musical family

    • @romeaffair
      @romeaffair 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hardly modern. This is classic jazz funk. Know your history. Us oldies were rocking to it in the 70s

    • @tomazloureiro
      @tomazloureiro 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@romeaffair Yeah, all of this has roots in many other genres, musicians e eras - the 80s fusion, Jazz, 80/90s r&b, Jazz from the 70s,80s.
      But the way they approach and use these influences is in a way that the result is something unique. The sound and timbre the Thundercat get with the bass, with all these different fx and shredding on top of a soul/r&b feel sounds modern.
      Of course, everything we hear in music nowadays is based on music from the 70,80,90...
