I just checked out their website and at the very bottom it says "Made in a very rainy place" - which happens to be Sweden! It finally rained in California last week but I have not needed mud flaps once since 2017. Great company name too.
Such a clever solution for super chonky wide tires if you live somewhere you may only need occasionally being easy to install/remove and also seems like it would work on full suspension.
Mudgaurds are great! I have made a set of full length ones for my full suspension- I can ride full days in mud and rain and the bike and I will be completely clean and fresh.
What about a front wheel fender? And also, the exposed section from the seat stays to the seat tube means wet and mud on your heels as you pedal.... No bueno for long rides in the wet, or bike packing/touring
Great video, thanks for the review. I personally am rather concerned about preventing mud from getting into front derailleur, which seems to be partially solved with this fender.
Thanks for the review. I appreciate the minimal design of the Win Wing, but still getting the job done. I’ve had good results using a Mudhuggers rear gravel fender with home made velcro straps. Can switch easily between my 700c wheel gravel bike, and 27.5” dirt drop bike. The Mudhuggers front gravel fender works well on my dirt drop bike, but doesn’t fit the 700c gravel bike.
Nice review, subscribed, just ordered one myself. Hate the look of metal fenders and despite being in the PNW, I want to a set that I can pop off easy peasy.
Hmmm...I tested it as well. It totally is and looks flimsy. Yet yes it worked fine, yet I could not get over it's look, it's well making it look flimsy. Yet still interesting product. With rough wind it gets a bit flimsier still. So I ripped it off again and call it a parts box filler now. Ass savers also this one is not really an enduring choice. But yet it functions for the time when forgetting a fender, the moment I bought this one was when already on the road while looking for a quick fix. Cheap and does the job for a season.
what is the use of an "ultralight" mud guard on a bike that gets covered with mud anyway? you save two ounces there but then the frame itself collects a whole pound of dirt in less than a mile portnawak
I use the Ass Savers Fendor Bendor on my Karate Monkey and this wishbone thingie looks like it could prevent it from flopping around in strong wind or hard hits in technical terrain. Do you think it might fit if I just punched three holes in the Fendor Bendor? The Win Wing alone looks too floppy for mountain biking.
I dont get it, if yall have bikes that can accept full fenders, like most gravel bikes with mounting points everywhere, just ride full fenders…. They work, and look better. Its a win win.
I bought CAnyon fenders aluminium (60€) for my canyon Grizl, I never installed them fully because It has play that can/will damage the frame because the screws get to loose at some point; and they are definitly worth the value. I'm looking for more light and easy setup.
All well and good in wet weather. They are awful when your tyre begins picking up mud, leaves and sticks off the floor though. I use SKS Speedrockers currently, but I’m looking at these to replace them based on the above.
Having one for 3 inch tires would be awesome. The classic saddle mounted clip-on fenders are crap as they are, and Mudhugger-like arches interfere with externally routed cables along the seatstays.
I made something similiar few years ago. Actually i made couple of them after tests, i rejected the less efficient and the one that was close to winnwing 😎
I bet someone with ingenuity could DIY a US version of the win-wing for less than $25 I for example have a DIY mudguard constructed from a 2 L water bottle that extends over the entire Tire no matter the size and can be attached to the bike via seatpost using a rear reflector mount. I call it the invisible mud guard because when you're looking at it you don't see it I have even come up with a version that you can attach to a rear pennier wreck to cover the spray from the water and mud being thrown out the underside of the rack and is still flung onto your trunk bag or your back side
So it's a flimsy plasticy flop flapper. Why not just take the time to install proper fenders, at least if you're on a rigid gravel bike? I've used quite a few of these quick-install disposable fenders and it's always the same; When it's raining and you have it on there, OK, it somewhat works. Then the next day it's dry and the fender flap is useless and looks ugly, so you take it off. But, because it's all muddy from when it was raining, you don't want to put it in your bag or whatever, so you just throw it into the corner of the shed and then bam, next time you're out and it starts raining, you don't have the thing with you. I guess maybe if you have like a full sus mountain bike as your only bike, and you want to commute on it, this could have some use
Does Salsa still make the Spearfish and do they even have any stock around the world? I sent them a message and an email.. Silence..... I see they just want to sell Cutthroats :/
I got these on both my street s.s. and my gravel/travel steed. They work flawlessly. Paired with the Speed Mullet, they are awesome.

@@michaelrowave I live in CPH, right next to Sweden, lots of rain. 🤙🏼
Now they should make one for the front tire!
It also works great on protecting your rear lights and radars, keeps everything clean
Good tip!

This looks sleek and more effective... thank you for sharing!
Thanks. Bought one for the gravel bike.
I’ve used it over the winter and it works really well, keeps me clean, weighs bu99er all and stays in place.

Great review and get well soon. Ride On.

They make the Speed Mullet for the front. Works great as well.

Amazing review! I’m ordering mine today for my gravel. I hate hate hate my seat post mount rear fender.
I'm not saying it's bad. I'm just saying that the cost-to-make to price ratio is just mindblowing :)
R&D, design, engineering, materials research, marketing, etc. All hidden costs.

Great minimal design from Sweden! Easy to pack when not in use. Going to give a try asap!
DO! I love mine 🤙🏼
Nice review and punny ending to the video :)
Thanks! 😁
It's pretty dope!
I am also currently laying down away from bikes, with fever and sore throat. It should get better by the weekend though.
Get well!
nice design...but not my cake..full fender was just working great for me for almost 45 years of riding.....
For mudguard or defender
Is it supposed to be close or far from the wheel?
What is the best position and angle for it?
とても参考になりました。ありがとう!
It was very helpful. thank you!
Bought the Win Wing. Tried it this weekend in the mud and it gets a big thumbs down. It doesn't work. My entire back side was covered thick in mud.

The idea is that it moves with the stuff that hits the weel when out in the wild. It will work fine for MTB.
@@Windingify will it work on a full sus mtb?
@@cheekysaurus think so.
do we have to buy two version? its Road/Gravel compatible ?
But how do you keep it from sliding down? Couple of curb drops and there is no 5-10 millimeters but 0 to 1.
It never moved on me, it has a rubbery side that sticks to the seatstay.
I need me one of those! Tired of having a “butt racing stripe” after riding through mud puddles.
what are those two tone shorts? (5:30)

Does it keep the saddle bag clean too?
It does.
Only thing holding me back on this is that my shift and brake housings run along the top of the seatstays.
It should matter as the rubber straps will accomodate the hoses/cables housing no problems
@@nerfherderdavidThanks. that's good to know.
26' tyre maybe?
Did your garmin varia stay mud free?
Yes, that was a big test, it worked perfectly.
Any idea if there is a fat tire version in the works?
Doubt it. They didn't make one before the Win-Wing so they'll probably will never make one.
Having one for 3 inch tires would be awesome. The classic saddle mounted clip-on fenders are crap as they are, and Mudhugger-like arches interfere with externally routed cables along the seatstays.
The fat tire ”scene” is not that big in Sweden

Gotta hand it to cycling to always be reinventing what already works great - making a worse but more "compact" or "unique" solution.
Yep, hello there 'gravel' bike.
No thanks, the mudhugger is way more riggid and lightweight as well. Stays on all the time
downforce?
Death mud. New band named bagsies
mus guard over everything
no mention or testing in actual rain? I'll bet ya still get that rooster tail commuting. more plastic please
I commuted in heavy wet snow with a warm ground, basically the same as rain.

Protects the rider, not so much the bike.
