🏌Liverpool comedian Stuart Gillespie began in clubs in 1947 when he and Ken Dodd used to get paid 25 shillings each. Touring with Frank Randle he was joined by his wife Dorene. They were the first British act to present record miming on BBC television in 1952. In 1968, Dorene retired from performing to look after son Howard and to run an artistes booking agency. Stuart returned to Stand-Up comedy. In his BBC Merseyside show Variety Time he gave local acts the chance to broadcast. One in particular went on to great success. That was Les Dennis.
