    Nice setup. Everything you need for a comfortable night is the woods.

    I have had this bedroll for, well, this entire season. Although I havent been out much this year, due to work, the 5 or 6 nights I have spent in it, were amazing. This has changed my sleep system. The only other thing I will change to, going forward, is when we get a hiker trailer :)

    My dad always taught me, "buy the best quality tools you can afford, and you won't regret it." And I have followed that, and never regretted it and I'm 66yrs old.

    That's good stuff right there . Simple , durable , efficient ... I may try a thermarest in my helke wax bedroll . I've spent hundreds on air pads and every one failed . And it wasn't twigs . It was constant use .

    Hi Dave, I greeting from Australia 🇦🇺, thank you for your time to make these videos, These remind me of the swags we used on the Station in stock camps. You will have to gauge the amount of air , if you are a big person it will be hard to zip up, spent 9 months in one ,very comfortable, mattress not air, they could leak after a while. These are a great if you have conveyance. Greatly appreciated, thank you .

  • @vanq86
    @vanq86 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    For someone who works in the woods for a lot of the year this makes complete sense. It's no different than buying a good office chair or mattress for your home- if you're spending a good portion of your time on something, then spending more on comfort and ergonomics isn't just a 'nice to have', it's an investment in the longevity of your body and your ability to keep working and supporting your family.
    The once a year car camper may not see the point, but someone like Dave may not see much value in a 2000 dollar office chair compared to someone who writes code 70 hours a week.

    Love that Badger bed setup! I would consider it strictly as a conveyance sleep kit. Although I'm pretty stoked on my current sleep system, which works all year round too: an ARC bivy, marino wool liner, then an EE quilt or wool blanket depending on weight considerations on just a static V inflatable (would like to upgrade to a neoair lite one day). Thanks for another great video, Dave. Super stoke for the ATV camping series!

    I said it in the first video and I'll say it in this one. If I were in the market for a new system I would pay the money for this one if Dave stands behind it I have confidence in its worth as a sleep system.

    Nice rig, Dave. I have one of those mondo king mattresses, too, and I like it a lot. I use it with my Kodiak canvas bedroll. Your perspective on the ratios of pack weight being bedding material is exactly right... a good night's sleep is proof of a good (smart) woodsman. Some of us are getting older (me) and there are folks with physical disabilities like chronic back pain and degenerative disk disease (me, again) who cannot sleep on the ground without a nice air mattress. But I'm not going to let back pain keep me from enjoying the woods. With setups like this, I don't have to. Thanks for posting! Peace to you from Alaska.

    100% right about investing in good gear. I have my Superior hammock kitted for 3 seasons. Underquilt built in. Down top quilt… and I bring my military sleeping bag when it’s close to freezing. Invest in a setup and camping gear.. if you plan to use a lifetime. 👍🏻

    what i would appreciate is to see dave lay this system out and then next to it provide a "common man" solution as an alternative for people who want to approximate the result but cant swing $800 for their sleep system. they dont have to be equal. just alternatives. i - and i would be many - got into dave's channel because of all the "common man" videos he used to do. for people looking to get into bushcraft seeing this, plus the costs of your pack, boots, knife, etc., etc., a lot of people feel like they cant do this activity. its good to hear dave emphasize that this is a system who are going to sleep out "a lot", not people who are going to camp out occasionally or casually.

    15 pounds is how much my dog weighs. That bedroll is handier than what we carried in the Army. We had a sleeping bag, air mattress, shelter half and poncho. This was in the 70s. They might have replaced the air mattress with a mattress pad and the shelter half with a complete tent.

    That thing looks great and I'd love to have one for deer camp or weekend camping/turkey hunting trips. Unfortunately, $800 for a sleep system simply isn't a realistic idea for me. I can't justify dropping several paychecks on camping gear when gas is still around $3 a gallon, compared to it being only $1.50 back in 2020.
