The Fungire tribe lives by draining the life-energies out of human beings. Wataru Kurenai, who goes on to fight as Kamen Rider Kiva, was half-human, half Fungire.

i know its not the most popular rider but i love kiva so much. the split timelines, the way otoya's personality is constantly portrayed as problematic (because it is) instead of just letting it slide, the way wataru evolves as the series progresses, the fight scenes, the aesthetics, the fact that the driver and weapons aren't just tools but characters, its all so good!
it is one of my favorite too, this series is so underrated in comunity
Kiva only really went to a mix of "mediocre & bad" in its second half. I'm of the opinion that one could watch Kiva up to about episode 20, then watch the movie. The movie is considered non-canon but, and for those who dislike how the series turned out, the movie works as a sufficient "end" to the series.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate that the suit actor actually had to walk around with a metal foot from that suit.
Yeah, Seiji Takaiwa stated that the Kiva suit is heavier than any Rider suit that he wore in the past due to the amount of metal which strains the suit actor's body. Ironically, Kiva actually weighs less than Decade, which the latter stated to be the heaviest of the first 10 Heisei Rider suits.

Fun fact: Kiva is the first Kamen Rider show since AgitΩ to explicitly share its world with a previous Rider show (Den-O in this case) and the first since Ryuki to feature a crossover.

The timing of the story is very good, totally different from others. No rush, no dancing scene in the series, less drama, and more funny scenes from the cast.
The Fangire have just the coolest design! Love the stained glass effect on the face before they transform.
Kinda reminds me of the game Bloodstained:Ritual Of The Night

The most funny thing throughout the series is that those Fangires can hide for 22 years and still keep high profile
Moreover the only official force to battle them is a girl, a suit and an old man chilling in a cafe (in one timeline). These dude’s body count is like hundreds through out the series too

This is the first Kiva episode I've ever seen. If the official force is those Girls with the really dainty weapons, it's a wonder the Fangires haven't taken over the world yet.

Fun fact: The BGM track which plays after Wataru first transforms (19:37), "キバフォーム" or "Kiva Form", borrows from Chopin's Revolutionary Etude (Op. 10 No. 12).
That piece had actually been used in Kamen Rider previously; a Grongi used it as the basis for her attacks in Kamen Rider Kuuga episodes 27 and 28.

Let's take a moment to appreciate the actors actually learned the violin for the series. (I love it! And I also really love the romance, lol)
...how did I not notice Kitaoka's House as a modelling place before? Oh right, cause I haven't watched Ryuki then. (kinda fun to see how often the same sets are used and how the same actors come back as background characters, like Goro-chan, the act too many bad guys Sawaki, Naomi, Mari... Its so jarring sometimes.)
Did they? Whenever I watch Otoya he doesn’t seem to play what I’m hearing and has generally really weird bow movement that works contradictory to how you should play. Wateru’s actor Koji Seto I’ve heard learned a bit of violin but not enough to hide that they just overlapped a recording on top of him(and I’m not pointing out sound quality, I’m just saying general bow movements and fingering).
They probably learned how to hold the violin but they sure cannot play it. As a violin/viola player, they don't hold the bow correctly and the fingering is far too static plus the bow doesn't synchronise with the notes played (especially the higher notes). Apart from that, Kiva is my favourite Kamen Rider series and concept.

Yeah, Kiva is indeed underrated. It's story is basic, but it is consistent for the most part, and the characters are awesome. Not to mention the suit looks freakin cool.

Watch how Kiva's sealed leg moves. Like when he rolls at one point he uses that leg as the base since its too heavy to roll normally and his leg doesn't look like it bends correctly which absolutely hurts like hell. Still amazing how they just made one boot crazy heavy

Kiva is a play on word. Ki comes from Kiba which is fang and va is from vampire. Pretttty cool.

Ghost's story writer is weird coz he can only handle short stories so movies are probably the best he can perform but they decided to let him do another full series of long running story. The director is fine

I like the stories, mysteries, romances, family relations, design and form from this rider series
Man the kiva suit designs still look so stunning. They suit/costume this season really were top notch. I know the kiva base form was clunky and hard for the suit actor to move around in but it just looked so damn good. His emperor form looked great to mostly because it gave us dark kiva lol man the intricate design work just always blew me away. Wasn't the biggest fan of all the flash backs and the narrative structure. But eh the action was also good too. Kiva to me really was such a fun creative show.
Not only my first Kamen Rider series but this show is what got me involved in Japanese Toku shows in general!
Without the Fansubs, these series wouldn't have been known.

When you have Castlevania in a Kamen Rider series? We have Kiva!!! My favorite of all!! The cool twist here is that the "Alucard" character here Wataru/Kiva has a vampire mother, specifically the Queen of all Fangires, and a human father

It's my favorite. The story is great, the humor is refreshing, and it's just so unique. It also kinda give me shonen anime vibe.
Kiva costume is very cool. Masculine and all.
And Wataru is such a baby, i can't! Him and Ryotaro are like the youngest sibling of Kamen Rider.

This was the first rider series I watched from beginning to end and I'm so happy that the first episode is officially available here
I love Kiva as a series since it was my third, Double being second, and Decade being first. Its straight foward and has a apocalyptic feeling to it when Dark Kiva comes into the picture, I love monsters and vampires so this series was awesome for me.
Given recent events, I really hope there's a streaming service coming soon

I think the main similarity between Kiva and Super-1, who we got the first episode put up a little before this is the sharp, pointed eyes, and the colorful-ness. In Super-1’s case, it’s the Five Hands, the different color-coded gauntlets with different powers and weapons while in Kiva’s case it’s the different colored interchangeable forms
They are also the ninth of their respective eras.
EDIT: For clarification, while Super-1 is not the ninth show, he is acknowledged as the ninth rider.

honestly, they could probably observe Fansub groups and their habits of trasnlation and use that knowledge to figure out good methods of doing the translations themselves.
Or, hell, pay fansub groups to use their subs. They're probably loath to do it since it would mean, in their eyes 'encouraging piracy' but this 'piracy' only happens due to a lack of distribution to other countries. A box set or the like with subtitles in other languages (possibly even translator's notes too to help people learn a bit more about japanese and maybe draw fans into showing interest in other yet untranslated shows) would be a perfect counter, it's basically doing what fansub groups do but potentially better.
Kiva was the First Rider series I watch as a series. Though, it took awhile to see the final episode.

I always have a soft spot for this season - this was my introduction into the franchise and sort of setting up my baseline t compare to past and future ones (still in the top 5 of my best season list for the complexity of the story).
For me, Kiva is such an underrated series.

Kiva’s Criminally Underrated and One Of My Favourite Riders So I’d Definitely Recommend it + It’s Certainly Better Than Hibiki's 2nd Half , Fourze , Wizard , Build and Revice at bare minimum imo.👌
Kiva is the spiritual succesor to Faiz, down to its writer, Toshiki Inoue (井上敏樹), same monster designer, Tamotsu Shinohara (篠原 保), same structures and more.

They won't. Toei has halfassed the KR expansion into the west (in contrast with Tsuburaya's Ultraman expansion) for years now. They have no obligation to care about western fanbases, evident by the C&D of Tv-Nihon and Overtime. They're only uploading 2 episodes on YT because they honestly don't care and are extremely stupid/short sighted

Have anyone realize one similarity among all kamen riders series? The first villain mostly begin with spider, then probably bat...
Spider, Bat, cobra were the original kamen riders first enemies so each series tends to do it as well as a reference
Another thing is that the source to their power always related to the villian, almost like Faust's contract. It's always about how you use the power, unlike pure justice vs evil in supersentai.
And no one seemed to realize background in 6:20 and 16:21 is where Kitaoka and Gorou used to live
