I know it's a long time for me to reply to this, but you're right, the green/yellow terminals are a problem and did indeed cock up my dead tests. It was stupid as I knew they shorted out to the DIN rail, but I hadn't factored in I'd effectively be figure-eighting my r2's on the ring circuits. I later went back and replaced them all with Spliceline connectors to send the CPCs straight through so that I could get the actual r2's without them being artificially lowered. I found these connectors to be pretty awful to work with and have no intention of using them again in this kind of way. Damnable things!

You don't need to keep returning the rod to downstairs. And at the end you've got a bunch of cord in the loft, which you can leave there for the pumber to clear up.

The data run is shorter than the power, the latter having to cross the front of the house and pass to the rear, but fibre would have been a better option.
Cat6 or Cat7 can bridge 100m and retain a gigabit link but yeah the real concern is a possibly current flowing trough the cables shielding or a spike from lightning frying their equipment. Regarding the joint box with din rail connectors, the use of green and yellow connectors will result in all earth cables being bonded together in joint box. This will cause problems when you start testing.
I'm really not a fan of these things, and as you say all the circuit CPC's will be paralleled from from this. I put it in because on a prior CU move that my NIC assessor viewed where I had kept the circuits separate and extended them using Spliceline/Wago connectors, he proffered the use of the DIN rail connectors. I know Nick Bundy used such in one of his videos when moving a CU and he had told me the subsequent testing had thrown him off cock as he hadn't realised they were joined at the rail. Personally, I wasn't too impressed with the solution. I found it fiddly, slower to install and numerous times I thought a wire was terminated only for it to fail a tug-test afterwards. The green/yellow was a way to demarcate the individual circuits, but if I were to do it again I'd perhaps use grey ones throughout.
David Savery Electrical Services I’ve used genuine all grey Wago’s in situations like these before - no paralleling of the CPC’s, and the genuine Wago DIN Rail modules definitely pass the tug test!

The yellow/green connector are old, I think I know them over 30 years. At this time nobody separate y/g with every MCB only. Use some gray, paint them yellow from one side and green from another. Or mark them with a sign - where are the problems? Power not look what color do you use ...
Not sure if the regs in UK insist on staple a metal stud protector on horizontal drawn electrical cables? They are here in the US if they close to surface .
As Supersparks says, the protection these days is less mechanical and more 'run it in zone' (horizontally or vertically from the accessory) and RCD protect it at source.

Thank you. And am I right in thinking that to do insulation resistance test on sockets with built in USB ports you can disconnect the nuotral conductor on the socket?
@@seandempsey9396 No, you'd join line to neutral on that circuit and test between them to earth. That ensures the test voltage doesn't spike the electronics as with it applied to both line and neutral simultaneously, there is no potential difference across the circuitry. Alternatively, you could wire out the thing by removing the socket and using Wago's to connect the incoming and outgoing wires together, but that's not terribly practical most of the time.

Not convinced running UTP to the man cave is a great idea - I suppose you’ll have a separate TT Earth there? Could get fault current running over the data cables? Might be better to run a fibre to an Ethernet repeater out there. But being an old telecoms guy - you know the story! That’s why you’re a cut above most!
definitely better to run fibre, UTP Ethernet is an isolated interface (I believe to 1.5KV) so fault currents shouldn't be a problem, the problem is any nearby lightning strikes will cause a problem.

Man cave will be the next edition! Our reluctant little helper was only out with us for one day, but most of the work that day was actually on the outbuilding so she'll appear more in the next one.
Hi David just watching video at 26 mins when you fix back boxes to the stud wall do they need to be at a certain depth. It looked like the light one was flush with timbers next to it and the socket ones where set back slightly do you use a certain measurement or just a bit of guess work thanks Also did you fuse the installation down with the switch fuse from 100 to 80amp or. I actually went to a job the other day where the main fuse was 80 amp then the put one of them main fuse switches in amd also used an 80 amp is that right or wrong
Afternoon. To answer your questions... regarding backbox depth, we tend to use 25mm for sockets and for switches unless we know a given point will require something deeper. As for measuring on this job, I doubt we did anything clever there. We would have just wanged them onto the woodwork with the expectation the plasterboard depth would be to the box edges. There may be a few millimetres in it if the noggins aren't affixed equally, but I can't recall now. The fuse question is interesting and, no, we don't include any selectivity into it. The expectation is that you will fuse the tails on the output side of the meter if they're over three metres long, but that fuse can be the same size as the supplier's one. NICEIC say that selectivity doesn't have to be followed where devices are physically located close by, so same with having two 30mA RCDs in line. If the supplier's fuse is 80A, there's no need to drop it down to 60A just because the CU is five metres away. Stick in an 80A fuse and you've ticked the box that says thou shalt protect the long tails.
@@dsesuk thanks David very good to know for I the future because if they they only have an 80 amp fuse and maximum demand is quite high you wouldn't really want to drop to a 60amp.

No coz we have to run in electrical zones unless they are more than 50mm deep
As Supersparks says, the protection these days is less mechanical and more 'run it in zone' (horizontally or vertically from the accessory) and RCD protect it at source.
Can we have a new series, the world according to Nigel ?
He needs to set up his own channel so he can air his conspiracy theories, Brexit views and how-to guides for setting up hidden camera's in public toilets.
07:50 Was the 'green and yellow' wire by the loo there as a strategic cleg nut removing tool?
One Nigel had discarded earlier.
Awesome intro 😆😆😆
Did there used to be a cracked socket behind that mirror? 1:05:01
All my kit is makita and they havent let me down for 6 years. The teeth on the multitool has started to snap off other than that they are the best tools in my opinion.
Lots of work to do there. Great job there. Never liked those LAP fittings.
Makita is Teal Lol
Dulux would have it as 'Monday Teal' on their paint charts as it depresses one to look at it.
Nigel is going to plit your ring. Fnarr 😅
I do like my makita stuff, the range and charging speed are excellent and I've not had many issues at all . However for warranty it would be hard to beat Hilti although you pay a premium.
The charging is fast, I'll give 'em that.
Usually you avoid putting your foot through the ceiling if someone has already done it 😂
Meh. The plumber had done half a job as usual, so I did it properly.
As Billy Connolly said - Never trust a fart once you get on a bit - skid marks will ensue... 👃
Dingo Nates Never trust a fart, never walk past a toilet and never waste an erection...
Yey! Jackpot!
Wahoo, thanks Dave!
Good to see you here again big man.
At 45:24, those things on top of the MCB's, are those some kind of accessories ?. Btw, this DB is a smashing job sir.
hi David How are you keeping safe i hope
Sorry to be a pain in ass but i have tried a number of people on these chanels with out success
So can ask you , on my late brothers ROBIN KTS 1620 MFT witch is the same as the KEWTECh TK62
and the Test leads are one for testing at the sockets and one for testing at the DB, on the loop setting you have 20 HMS 200O HMS and 2000 OHMS and on the PSC setting you have 200A 2000A and 20KA,
your metrel has the same settings although the set every automatically ? my question is when i do the Ze test ie maind earth removed from Db and clamp one lead to that then probe on the incoming line what do i set the instrument diel to ? or cant the two lead be used and what about psc ,i don't have the instruction book and i not prepared to spend money i cant afford on one of the moor modern MFTs plus i like the old ones . so any help is much appreciated.
Hi David another great video thank you.
By the way can you please tell me what is the current rating of the fuse in the plug top of the mains test lead using for RCD Testing at the socket, I am getting my late brother's ROBIN kts 1620 MFT but there is no fuse in the plug
Can't imagine it matters much, but having checked, my testers have 13A fuses.
@@dsesuk we'll you have confirmed my suspition that guy from greshem college is wrong in one of his videos he did it as I discribed, personally I would test LN Combind to earth or test at 250v. Thank you again I wish I had you as my tutor when I was at college
Good tip on linking the laser up thru the lugs.... noted for future use :)
And loft insulation should be the last thing EVER to happen. Dirty, filthy, crap. Fuck energy efficiency. Just makes everyone's life difficult :\
Fucking YES! Although i'm 35 minutes late. I'll be watching the rest of this tomorrow after work. With alcohol. It's the best way in my opinion.
Make it a large one Jonny. No ice.
@@dsesuk Oh I will David, I will!
Poly at about the hour is cute
@David Savery Electrical Services who fell through the ceiling?
That would be me. It wasn't a fall as such, just a boot through. I had to be seen doing a better job on it than the plumber though.
After watching all of your uploads Slavery I finally learnt something!
Alpacas have triangle ears and lamas ears just flop!
Don't take yoof's word for it. Anything they know comes from Hollyoaks or American reality TV.
@@dsesuk SHe's probably going to be a scientist or a doctor or something isn't she. She only put down sparky as her last choice because she couldn't think of anything else at the time.
Bundy10 dabbling in some plumbing with his fancy van!
Boi must be making more dollars than I am.
What an intro. Looks like Nigel is (DSS) Dan's dad.
More money 💰 than a horse 🐴 can shite. UL not go wrong with Makita Dave. Quality again. Lots of laughs 🤣
I was rather horrified by the short-lived en-suite.
RAF Electrical installed them screwfix specials David 😀
That stuff in the loft looks extremely dangerous, those down lights should not have insulation around then.
When is Part 5? :(
I had a look at it over Christmas and it's about three and a half hours of rubbish that needs days of painstaking editing to poo out into some kind of semi-watchable form. I don't know if I'll ever find the time.
I bet you really, really love working in old buildings with Lath and plaster walls and ceilings... makes cutting holes and box sinking really easy and enjoyable...😂😂😂
Interesting that you went with the Inceptor Nano adjustables... I used them to replace the old GU10 Halogens in my bathroom because you reckon the Inceptor range were good quality :) The flow connectors are quite nice though.
I've been getting royally pissed off with two or three adds in the middle of videos lately, I don't mind one at the start and/or end but not half a dozen in the middle of the vids... might have to start using addblocks which will be a shame for the video creator...
Missed a trick with the title... could have been To the Manor bore (four) lol.
Good spot with the title there FSB. Yes, YT is killing the experience. I find myself not using it at all lately. It is stupid that they overdo the ad's so much it simply forces people to use blockers so that nobody wins. If I do watch a video, I find myself clicking off when the non-skippable ads turn up unless I'm especially invested in what comes next. Usually, I'm too pissed to be invested in anything much.
57:29 I'm assuming that's your youngest and she looks really impressed 😆😆😆
29:22 is that the plumber behind Nige?
I do believe the bald chaps are the plumbers Richard. Father and son team. Although I don't know which did half a job of falling through the ceiling before I showed them how to do it properly.
Did you say "motion sensor" next to a toilet? Fnarr Fnarr....
Probably should have run fibre, but too late now. It's in and working so we'll see what happens I guess.
Great video lads, have you any commercial / Industrial jobs coming up?
Nothing on the horizon Gary. We're not VAT registered anymore. That said, you never know what's waiting around the corner to bite you on the arse.
@@dsesuk Fair enough David I do know a lot of the bigger companies don't like it if your not vat registered, I much prefer commercial/Industrial to domestic each to there own I suppose. Your videos are top notch funny as fook keep up the good work brilliant stuff.
Is that bathroom socket suitable for the environment
As the room is vented and opens up onto that large bedroom with no dividing door, I don't expect moisture or steam to be problematic here.
So, is this some kind of commune then?
Another great video, nice to see all the work you do, specially hope you videoed the man cave wire up, was that a new apprentice for the day with you and Nigel?
Man cave will be the next edition! Our reluctant little helper was only out with us for one day, but most of the work that day was actually on the outbuilding so she'll appear more in the next one.
sunday night just got better
Sadly, it's always followed by a hangover on Monday morning.
Hi David just watching video at 26 mins when you fix back boxes to the stud wall do they need to be at a certain depth.
It looked like the light one was flush with timbers next to it and the socket ones where set back slightly do you use a certain measurement or just a bit of guess work thanks
Also did you fuse the installation down with the switch fuse from 100 to 80amp or.
Just been watching your max demand video the calculations for this are just guess work really its a load of nonsense I like the trick of clamping the tails for a couple days.
When you dropping latest videos on manor house mate
@@gd-bq7em There are three vids in active edit, two relating to the Manor House, however I seem to be having difficulty in staying sober enough to finish them! I'm also concerned they won't be worth the wait after all this time. Anyway, something *should* land this weekend.... I think...
@@dsesuk you gotta put them up mate finish the series I will watch them as soon as they drop. You'll be surprised the number of people waiting to watch it

Me and three other people are stubbornly sticking with 'em!
Just a quick question does Nigel's isolator have a slot cut between the live, earth/cpc and nuetral to avoid eddy coming to town?
It does. There was a scene recorded later showing it finished, the conductors colour coded and the slits shown between the holes, but it didn't make the edit. There's loads of raw video for this job recorded over months. I've just tonight found more of it that got left out hiding in another folder on my disorganised hard drive.

Another two updates to come potentially Ian, if I can ever get around to editing them that is!
