    The Song of Storms is the single biggest paradox in Zelda history

    • @nothanks7063
      @nothanks7063 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      I'd say the tree and the crystal in SS that both work on different time travel mechanics despite existing in the same room are the biggest paradox in Zelda.

    • @SamRegan610
      @SamRegan610 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @@nothanks7063 Could you elaborate? From what I understand, the only two time travel mechanics in Skyward Sword are Timeshift Stones and the Gates of Time. Timeshift Stones affect a small area and only one can be active at a time. Meanwhile, the Gate of Time transports you to the same time period, but they never overlap. I don't see where the paradox is.
      The origin of the Song of Storms is unclear because Link learns it from the man in the windmill who learned it from the same Link who traveled back in time to teach it to him. Somehow it just came into existence without ever being written

      @@SamRegan610 I believe he's referring to the tree that you plant in the Sealed Temple and the crystal that Zelda is asleep in. They don't follow the same rules of time travel. The tree isn't there in the temple until Link plants it in the past, yet the crystal is always there, even before the point in the game where Zelda creates it in the past. If the crystal acted like the tree, it wouldn't have been there from the start

    • @SamC77
      @SamC77 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@billgottschall1808 not so. Zelda games have never been difficult even for 8 year old standards. when you enter a room, you task is pretty much to interact with whatever is inside. enemies? you kill. switches? you hit. this isn't BOTW where you have a dozen ways to interact with the same object, there is ONLY ONE thing you can do to it. people having trouble in dungeons are simply not paying attention to whatever the game characters say, or forget what tools they are carrying. There is only one thing you can do with such objects in old Zelda games and your job is simply to check the maps, every nook and cranny no stone unturned, and interact with those things in the limited number of ways possible. Ocarina of time is the right difficulty for 7 year olds, don't pretend this is some extreme test.

    An interesting fact: Nintendo had to change a few things after the first few versions of ocarina of time. On certain blocks, there was a symbol of a moon and star that was similar to a Islamic symbol. In the fire temple, the music originally had chanting in the background that was, apparently, from an Islamic prayer. Nintendo had a policy against including real-world religious imagery in their games, so they took it out of later builds.

    I've noticed that you sometimes struggle with the map so here are a few tips since knowing how to consult it can be extremely useful, especially in big dungeons. Note that there's a minimap on the bottom left of the top screen which is important since that's where the arrows are displayed (remember: You can only see the arrows if you have the Compass).
    Once you have both map and compass, here are the rules:
    Blinking/shiny room = the room you’re currently in
    Blue rooms = Rooms you’ve been in before
    Grey rooms = Rooms you haven’t yet visited
    Red arrow (minimap) = Shows you where you’ve entered from
    Yellow arrow (minimap) = You
    If you get stuck in a dungeon and don’t know where to go, try reaching grey rooms. If you need a key or an item, go look for treasure chests.
    Also: You don’t “use” the Compass. It’s automatically equipped. It shows the arrows, the boss room and treasure chests.

Just thought I'd point that out since it seems like you don't use those item slots since they're not on the controller, but you can use the controller for them if you set that up. My story for playing this game is a bit of a funny one. (No spoilers)
    So, we didn't own this game on the N64, our friends did. When we would play it, we mostly just warped around using the songs, threw bombs, or shot arrows, and dad liked the fishing game. We didn't do anything important, and we always bought replacements and then cut grass until their wallet was full again.
    But then one day, I wandered somewhere new, Ganon's Castle. I could get in it this time. And I just kept going. I accidentally beat my friend's save file, and afterwards, it had deleted itself. (I've never had a game do this since, so maybe I deleted it by mistake, it was a long time ago.)
    I felt so bad about losing all of his progress that I played through the whole game again, completionist style, and got him back to where I found him. When I finally returned the game, he didn't even care that it had happened. He let us keep the game he was so disinterested.
    My brother has still only dicked around with bombs and arrows, but that was how I beat Ocarina of Time for the first time. On accident. XD

    Are you using the texture filtering options on Citra (including linear filtering)? If so, then try turning them off because the texture issues are getting harder and harder not to notice. If you want smoother textures, there are texture packs that up res the game without needing to use any of the filters. It's not that hard to implement them, and they don't change the overall art style of the game either.
    Also, there's a function in Citra that allows you to map touch screen commands to your buttons. I recommend setting the touch item slots (I and II) to the shoulder buttons you aren't currently using (most likely the bumpers), setting the ocarina to the D-pad, setting the item tab to either start or select, and setting look to either right stick/R3 or left stick/L3. I hope this helps. I'm just trying to make sure the overall experience is smoother for you.

    Did you know Bolson Construction in BotW is based on the carpenters in Ocarina of Time? They wear similar blue vests and Bolson has tiger stripes in his design just like the carpenter boss. Also, the names of the apprentices (Ichiro, Jiro, Sabooro, and Shiro) translate to "first son, second son, third son, fourth son". Hudson resembles one of the apprentices and their desire to join with the Gerudo gets fulfilled with Hudson marrying a Gerudo. Also the apprentices are flamboyantly gay but in BotW the boss is gay instead.

    Things I think you should do for the side quests:
    .1) find the biggorn sword which is a little more powerful than the master sword and to start it you must speak to the cucco women.
    .2) catching the poes to get a bottle on hyrule field.
    .3) There is many heart pieces like if you get a bean and plant in the past in the graveyard and then go to the future you can go back and find a heart piece. Or very easy ones like just Hookshot to the roof with the guy on, in kakariko village.
    Note: I also really enjoyed the video and yes I'm happy you got that heart container!

    51:23 How did we play these games when we were younger and not go crazy? Because we played the NES Zelda games beforehand, along with countless other merciless adventure, exploration, and puzzle-solving games (Castlevania II, anyone?) when we were children and learned to decipher the most cryptic nonsense ever put to code relying on our wit, word-of-mouth advice, hand-drawn maps and guides, what scant info we could get on an early build of GameFaqs with dial-up internet... and a healthy dose of Nintendo Power. That's how.

Can't wait to see him take on some of the other Zelda games. Tip for Dee Bee: A jump attack will do more damage than a single swing of a weapon. Can't wait for the next video!

    In the manga for Ocarina of Time, Link meets and befriends a little dragon baby as a child and then has to kill his old friend as an adult because Ganondorf turned it into Volvagia. It's really sad but a great character moment for Link
    (all of the mangas are widely non-canonical to the games if that isn't obvious by now. But they are a great experience anyway!)

    Here are a couple of things about the two pieces of music associated with Fire temple.
    Firstly, Bolero of Fire is named after a piece whose full name I don't remember but which has the name bolero in it. Reason for that was it was supposed to be the title theme in OG Zelda but the copyright hadn't passed yet, so the zelda composer Koji Kondo, the madlad, composed the main theme of the series in a day. I don't think the main theme appears in OoT tho
    Secondly, the Fire temple theme you're hearing isn't the original. The first versions of OoT had a piece which was on later versions changed due to it having religious chanting in it. You can hear the og on TH-cam If you want to someday check
