- Pennsylvania State Police along with Pleasant Unity Volunteer Fire Department provided an afternoon update on Elizabeth Pollard, a woman who went missing after falling into a sinkhole and abandoned mine.
Prayers sent! Hope if she did pass that she didn't suffer & they can at least get her remains if she's no longer alive. Poor lady. All she wanted was to find her cat. Tragic! Glad the grandchild was found safe. Hope the family finds peace.
I agree with your comment. Very tragic. 🙏🏻
Very sad, prayers for this woman's safety.
Depending on the conditions down there, she won't live long if she's even still alive
They mentioned something about low oxygen, so chances are she's probably gone, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if she is under those particular types of conditions
Poor lady. I totally understand her looking for her cat. I hope they find her.
@@papercityvlogs4325 has anyone found the cat?
@@frinoffrobishe’s the one that dug the hole.
@SatSun-op9dp 😼
Dealt with a similar environment in Lynchburg, if it was me, leave me lie.
Safer than risking would be rescuers to remove my remains and hell, I'm already buried.
Just put a headstone at the entrance, "At the bottom of this mine lies a big, big man".
Big Steve...
Seriously, though, just leave me lie, rather than risk rescuers to remove my corpse.
Not yet
Poor lady 😢 my prayers for her and her family and the rescuers
Praying for this lady and her family.
Prayers for all the people involved in her rescue and for a swift recovery for the missing lady and her family
I hope her and her kitty are together 🥺
One way or another, they are.
Praying for this lady and her family. Praying for safety of the rescue personnel.
It makes me wonder if maybe she didn't know there was a sinkhole right where she was standing, and it suddenly collapsed
If the hole was already open, what was she doing around that hole if she didn't know it was there?
It makes me wonder if she was actually blind, or did she go out in the dark and accidentally walk right into this hole?
I'm sure others are asking questions, because this hole should obviously have been roped off or at least covered with something
If this sinkhole was already open, the area should've been closed
🙏find her safe ❤️
That would be a miracle. This hasn't been handled in the best way.
This would have never happened if they were doing their jobs.
Sad and tragic, always has been with shoddy mining practices.
It’s very unfortunate.
This is so sad. Thank God the little girl is ok. Prayer's for this lady to be found and for her family . thank you 1st responder's and other's who are trying so hard to find her.
Down here in florida sinkholes are common.Guy actually fell into one when his house sank and they never found him...Scary
I remembered that but didn't remember what area.
I remember that too. I believe the reports stated his older brother was also home and heard his brother's initial scream. I think the sink hole took half of the house?? Because the older brother was on site and was trying to dig with his hands to rescue his brother. The first responders had to pull him away. I think a show called Hard Copy first reported this and I am repeated what I remember from that report.
I saw this story years ago and to the day it still has me frightened. Poor man was sleeping in his basement. When the ground consumed him.
Good grief
@@4x4vania Yes. It had haunted me to this day also. That poor surviving brother and the brother who was just sleeping and got swallowed up by the sinkhole...😢
We should try to appreciate life ; one never knows WHAT could happen.
Be a miracle if she's found. I doubt very seriously that she survived the cave in, and especially since it collapsed right under her feet.
There's just no way to breathe in the dirt.
I do hope for a miracle, though.
Sadly I feel the same.
@@anonone8954 you think she might have been buried? oh that's so sad 😞
false, they are pumping oxygen down there and they found her shoe which means she got up and walked away. It's also 50 degrees down there even at night. She may have yelleed for help and tried to find her own way out after hours of yelling. Praying for her.
@frinoffrobis Are you serious or making fun ? This isn't something to be making jokes about. This poor woman has more than likely lost her life caring for an animal.
@@anonone8954 I am serious
my goodness chill out
Our state is swiss cheese. God bless this dear lady and all the hard working rescuers.
There was a famous Supreme Court case involving the City of Scranton, which was seriously undermined. The Court said, too bad. Deeds in PA contain clauses that transferred the mineral rights to the mining companies. Even though those rights were transferred more than a century ago, mine subsidence is the home owners problem..so is the contamination of your drinking water when you have a well. The Pittsburgh area has mines three levels deep in places.
@@janicewolk6492 Disturbing. A couple years ago a neighbor was upset about a hole appearing in his backyard. If we ever have a serious earthquake Pennsylvania will become a big pond or another of the great lakes, God help us.
@@janicewolk6492 and Pittsburgh has one half of a missing mountain. Fracking bunker full of nitroglycerin blew a century ago, vaporizing the mountainside.
Maybe I’m missing something but a crane can be sent 100 feet from the hole and lower a boom to allow someone in.
in mexico there was a sink hole in puebla, two dogs fell in, and firefighters went down to pick them up. the sinkhole in mexico was way way bigger, it had moving water in the bottom and it was still expanding.
it's on youtube, look for it as "perritos socavon puebla rescate"
God bless the poor woman's soul and her fam. That's so scary.
the update is we are still looking . So more or less the update is no update , still doing the same thing .
Thanks.
I don't get it. Is there some complication that is hindering them from just dropping a camera and light down there?
I honestly thought they'd just lower someone down with a rope and crane, and lift her back up.
I guess they're worried about instability, but it seems like there'd be an easy way to get some answers by now.
@@John6-40 Rope?
Been in hypoxic environments, up to and including tunnel vision and gray out.
I'd never want anyone to risk their own lives recovering me. Ever.
@@spvillano they have breathing masks for that . I mean if you are a first responder your job is rising your life for someone else in situations like this .
This reminds me of little Jessica. From the 80's
I was thinking that. Happy ending in that case though it seemed impossible. Praying for more of the same here 🥺🙏🙏🙏
This is so sad. I hope for a safe miracle
What a horrible thing, prayers for her and family
Poor woman
I'm praying for a happy healthy outcome 🙏
I really feel for this woman. I used to live in Florida and sink holes are scary! One minute you're there on solid ground, and the next minute, you're never seen again. I haven't heard yet if the cat was ever found either. Two good reasons to keep your cat inside. I knew they become prey for wildlife, but never thought about being prey to sink holes. I had a friend who bought a house and 6 weeks later it was swallowed by a sink hole. And a lot of insurance companies view them as "an act of God" and will not pay for sink hole losses. He was stuck with a mortgage and no house to show for it. The world can be a very frightful place! I hope the family is coping well with this. It sounds like they are still keeping hope they will find her.
There's NO WAY I would EVER finish paying that mortgage. Idc how it would affect my credit at that point.
Who knows, maybe she connected to a tunnel and is looking for her way out.. I sure hope it's something like that. I pray we see a miracle happen for this sweet looking Grandma. Wherever she is, Jesus is with her. Sending love and prayers for her family & friends.
No way
@@thomasdaniels6824No way what? 🤦♂️
It's an old mine, so it's possible.
Imagine she came up somewhere else, let's prey
can they fly drones down inside the mine?
Yes
Exactly my thought as time is of the "efing" essence!
Would they lose signal?
@@crystalspackman8491 good question.. idk that much abt drones
My heart goes out to everyone in this situation. If anyone else does fall into a sinkhole you should stay near where you fell don't try to walk away and get out chances are you will only get lost. If you can try pushing the dirt down so rescuers can get to you easier. Plus there is a chance that other dirt will fall on top of you if any more of the ground collapses. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Lord please bring this family answers and protect all who are out there looking for her
So sad and scary. Praying for her.
It's so strange that an elderly woman was just found Monday wandering by the side of the road in Southampton,Pennsylvania. As of today, l hadn't heard an update on her identity. Does anyone else miss the days when they would briefly tell you what the context of the situation is before giving you the update I have no idea what the story is about.
So there's an old mine under her property? My god it should be a thing where they use that ground radar thing to make sure properties above mines are safe. Gov sends money all over to other countries but the gov doesn't keep our own infrastructure safe for our people
People are freezing to death in the Carolinas. But now twenty one million pledged to Africa.😡
There are mines under every home and building in most of the Southwestern area of Pennsylvania. They are hundreds of years old and sinkholes open up all of the time. Oh, and F off about what the Governor does. Nobody needs your MAGAt views. Capiche?!
@@Jacklyn-zc8dcThey need to get a job. They were mountain people that lived off of public assistance. If they live in the cold, it’s because they want to.
let alone that the gov sends money overseas, the gov gets a lot of money from other countries
Isn't that on the State?? Why would federal government have anything to do with this @@CarRamRod-i9o
So, it sounds like she may have suffocated from lack of oxygen...i would imagine if she were alive or conscious she would say something...How terrifying....
they found a shoe down there, they don't know if it's hers? but I would think family would recognize her shoes?
It is probably thoroughly caked in mud.
If family is around. Call to.police was before 1am .
Appreciate the thought but honestly, my husband couldn’t tell you what my shoes look like even though they are in the closet we share.. so… unlikely .. horribly sad.. prayers to her family.
Still praying for her.Hope her cat is ok to.❤❤❤
May she and her beloved cat resin peace 😢
Any mention of cellphone pings or if it was left at home?
Odd questions reporters ask and don't ask (sometimes )
Prayers 🙏🙏
Sending prayers up in Jesus Mighty Name for her safety 🙏🙏😢
Are they positive that she actually fell in that hole? Have they conducted searches in the woods around the area? If she's not in the shaft, she may have fallen in the woods.
Or met with fool play.
@teresaledbetter16 I was thinking about that, too. Does anyone know if grandma had any addiction issue? Maybe met with a shady dealer? I AM IN NO WAY SAYING SHES AN ADDICT, it's just a theory. I also wonder if they stumbled upon people with bad intentions while searching for the cat. Has it been confirmed that she was looking for the cat?
@@invisiblue3212supposedly the day before she was looking for the cat
My heart goes out to this precious lady I hope and pray she will be found alive I can only imagine what her loving family are going thru.God bless all those helping to find her.
If it collapsed while she was walking looking for the cat she got buried more than likely. If she is alive she has my prayers for sure and her cat also.
This is bizarre. Clearly, she's no longer with us, if they can't breathe what makes them think that she can?
If she's down there and alive I hope she's with her cat,
my cat is an ESA for my PTSD, I know 1st hand of the benefits of being comforted by my cat during stressful times,
I hope she didn’t pass either. 😢😭🥺😞 this is so sad especially during the holidays. 🥺🕊️🙏
I wonder if anyone has done an area search in case she did NOT fall in the sinkhole, but wandered into the surrounding woods and had a fall.
I'm the odd guy that goes in the house to see if there's a cellar. Situations like these all assume the others must have checked.
Her grand daughter was with her and saw it happen
The new park being installed on weatherwood lane right along rt 30 in greensburg has had numerous sinkholes from mines to deal with.
Also part of route 30 in the berm sunk under the guardrail and further back. That was right in-front of the old gander mountain shop.
In connellsville a whole row of houses sank a couple decades ago.
Some mines have been mapped, others were mined privately and not on the radar of any mapping at all.
God bless all involved in this situation! 🙏🙏🙏
What a terrible thing to happen. If they find her alive it will be a miracle. If she did not make it I pray She felt no pain and no fear
Find her!!!
This poor woman, she's most likely gone. You have to hand it to the rescuers to continue on with drones/cameras/dogs etc. If she's gone, I hope they at least find her body. Blessings to her family and friends. Nightmare...
Is there cameras in the area? Are they sure she fell down it and wasn’t taken? Prayers for all🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
She wouldn't have left her grandaughter. She fell or was taken.
@ I agree that’s what I’m wondering do they actually have proof she fell down or was she abducted? It’s so sad!! Prayers for her and her family as well as the rescue workers and all 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Body heat detector???
Why would they build a house over a mine?
How deep is it?
in my town alone, there is not a single house that is not built over a mine. Coal mining in PA has gone one for 150 years or more.
@ wow!!
Thermal only works if she is alive, too many items that would read cold
This is really really sad situation ❤man can you imagine being down there?
I haven't heard in any of the reports I've watched whether the 5 yr. old granddaughter actually saw her grandma fall through the gound.
The last reported sighting of the Grandmas, was about 5pm...by that time, it is dark, and if the child was in the backseat, most likely could not see anything going on in the front, or too short to see out the window, as she is only 5 years old.
@DH-qz2so Thank you.
I wish one of the reporters would ask what the granddaughter has said, if anything. God bless her. ❤️
Did they even look in the woods surrounding that place? Maybe she almost fell in and why they found a shoe but kept going looking for the cat. And where is the cat BTW?
Prayers for you, your granddaughter and all of your family. Hopefully there will be a happy ending. 🙏❤
Hopefull? There’s no way she’s alive
Many Prayers So many heros God plz cover 🙏 thhem
This is what happens when greedy corporations literally take the ground from under your feet, the ground will swallow you up and the company will have nothing to do with the repercussions
No offense just wondering if it's an old fracking area where they use to drill for oil etc... I hope they locate her soon!!
Is anyone looking elsewhere else in case she didn’t fall in?
I am hopeful she survives or is found. However on another note has anyone seen the cat? Maybe they didn't fall in? 🤔 🙏 perhaps the sinkhole scared the cat into the woods nearby and she ran after the cat and ended up injured or God forebid worse. Check the nearby areas and cameras quickly. Reassemble another crew to search wooded area. Think like a cat with cat like reflexes. The cat probably felt the ground moving prior to it opening. Could be wasting precious time in sink hole. JS it is possible.
How terrible.
Oh, no. Poor lady. I pray she is found alive and recovers. None of us can know that this type of thing might happen. 🙏🏻
🙏🙏🙏
I grew up in Duquesne PA. We had several hills in the area that smoked constantly from old mine fires ! You had to be very careful where you walked , a piece of plywood on the ground may well be covering an old coal seam that someone dug out years ago !
Better ready a lawsuit. They ought not be open and unsecured.
Yes and no . Prove it didn't open under her. Though Google earth may have an answer. I thought it was on her property
I'm wondering if there could have been a passage way that she found and is wandering around in the mine lost. My prayers go out to her and her family. Prayers they find her soon
Shouldn’t the Bureau of Mine Safety be responsible for filling in these mines or closing off areas to make sure people dont randomly fall into these old mines?
This seems odd that she wouldn’t be right below, unless it is deeper, or she walked away & is wondering around trying to get out. Kind of seems like they are clueless on what they are doing.
Might have been loose dirt , mud and possibly a pyramid of dirt thus rolling to 1 side
God Bless
I’m still trying to figure out why a neighborhood would be built above an old mine.
Money.
Money
If her body fell somewhere I would think it should be somewhat accessible. Unless she was buried , whatever path she took falling should still be a path to her
🐞Has it been confirmed that the searchers did find one of her shoes? 🐞
One of them said it in the video. Assuming it was hers.
Always seems many tragedies right before Christmas. Sadd😢
@T-bone6o - Tragedies happen all the time, year around. It's just that the holidays make them much more poignant.
When did they start looking for her? Was the family in contact with her at any point? (Cell phone)?
How hard is it to send a camra down?
It may not be a straight shot!
They haven't picked up anything not even sound
@ that’s what I thought , sad but that’s a far fall
What a bizarre way to die.
I hope death was mercifully quick.
R. I.P. & condolences.
😢
How old is she? Was she on her own property?
she is 64, and I'm guessing not her property, but more beside a road, as her car was 15 feet from the initial hole
@@tony--james Thank you! I just found that elsewhere. Was looking for her cat near a restaurant around 3 in the morning. Poor thing - and cat.
@@aliced7505 double check . That would mean the child was in her car for 22 hours .and nobody passed in that area. 3pm makes more sense. Police get call at 1am ish
How on earth are these things covered up and built on top of? I dont get how theres holes under ground not filled in?
Prayers for all. Of all the updates I’ve seen on other rescues, etc., these men are very professional and the fact that they remain optimistic in this situation is very encouraging I’m sure to the community ❤️🩹
It is well below freezing here at night in the Northeast, so hypothermia is a real risk even if she is in a pocket of oxygen. Fingers, toes, and eyes all tightly crossed for her.
Right but generally warmer that far underground. If we can say warmer
she's bound to be homeless if they do find her. that sinkhole is right next to her house and I imagine they will not allow her to live in that house anymore. I could be wrong but they won't let her until it's thoroughly checked to make sure it's deemed safe at any rate.
If this is a mine, there could be pockets of air I hope
Did anyone check the wooods
Poor old lady, PSP dropping the ball on another case.
Damn! That's as creepy as Florida's cave ins but ours are from rain working through limestone.
Gee, I don't know many people that survive a 30 foot fall
Is this what is called a "direct burial" funeral?
Why not lower down, to the bottom, a lighted robotic camera, the ones on wheels...with a microphone and live video...and let that roam around in the tunnels down there?
Loose dirt, mud and might be steep like how sand pours down in an hour glass
