Thank you for video Katie. I love this, enjoyed my first climb up the Col De Aravis. Looking forward to the others. It's great to be able tackle these virtual replicas from Down Under. Ditto, the social connection is what makes Zwift even more appealing. Have missed that when outside in our Summer riding solo.

My first thought was that it looks like ClimbPro on acid! I like it. Zwift looks so good for these kind of long climbs, (as well as perfectly flat long rides) that most of us struggle to find in real life. I imagine you hit the real climb much stronger both mentally and physically after riding it on this. Impressive riding Katie well done 👏

I really enjoyed it. Like you, I love the color indicators giving me a heads up on the gradient changes. But one thing I really, really like is that while some of these climbs could easily be broken up into a ton of segments like Alpe' Du Zwift, they seem to be sticking to nine. I like that. Even though the distance is comparable with some, not seeing double digit segments to do is oddly nice. Great job finishing it. Well done.

liked the new approach that Zwift has for climbing , I used to be on Zwift but never liked it much , you had to do certain days for climbs or had to go though certain routes , I joined Rouvy better selection and i can choose whatever climb i feel like doing or which ever course and distances . plus i can upload a route from my strava , 299 .79 km , with 4,712.8 metres took me 10 hr 39min .06 sec moving time, on the tourmalet 1hr 23min over 18km , anyway great to see Zwift changing things when it comes to climbs , i am a climber by nature

Obviously not ridden the zwift version yet but if as close / comparable to IRL as the other two big in game climbs then awesome!
I can testify that the Tourmalet is a monster IRL - rode the Luz side in 2022 and aim to do the Campan side (same as game) in 2024 on my next visit to the area. TBH i think the Tourmalet is the 2nd hardest climb i have ever ridden. Galibier is the hardest so far i think mainly due to the elevation.
Totally agree 100% that ADZ / Ven Top and now these new portals are a great idea and way to get practice in before taking on a european trip to the mountains. Learning pacing and the mental aspect of long tough climbs. Zwift has been screaming out for new climbs like this for a very long time - Tourmalet etc is a fantastic addition.
Not sure on the visuals but we will see.

    • @Greg.Sutton
      @Greg.Sutton ปีที่แล้ว

@KatieKookaburra if you gonna ride it from the Luz side then it HAS to be done via the Voie Laurent Fignon Road... it's just so much cooler and of course no cars!
Last opportunity to fill bottles is in Barages by the fountain there is a little tap on a hidden away wall.
The guy who owns the redturant at the top is a bit of a meany. He will not let cyclists fill bottles for free from the tap. He has even lowered the taps in the toilet so a bottle will not fit.
I could almost feel the history as I rode up. Plus option to take a dip under the bridge on a hot day.
Save a bit for the last km......lol.

What I’ve done before is split my commute over 2 days. Day 1 drive in with my bike in tge back of my van. Then ride home. Day 2 ride in and put the bike in tge van for the day - drive home.
I did this because it was a 50km ride each way and so in and home again the same day was just too much.
It also gives you a chance to get used to tge route etc without committing to both ways.
A variant of this would be to drive, say, half way then ride in from there. Ride back to wherever you got to.
Ultimately you can tweak it all until you’re not phased by the 100km days..

Yeah, creating the 3D decorations is too much work for Zwift, that's why new roads are really, really rare. They realized that people get quickly bored with the current roads, so they needed to make something new, that wouldn't require that much effort. Those new kind of roads suck, as you could get almost the same result with any application replicating a GPS profile.

    • @KatieKookaburra

It all depends - in and outdoors - on gearing! So I’ve just got the new Tacx Neo bike so set up the gearing pretty low so I can spin up the climbs. Or…. If you lower trainer difficulty in Zwift that essentially is giving you lower gears. You still have to push the same power to get up it just means you can spin a bit easier. 💪🏼
