    The gradient colour is a nice touch, but I'd prefer a simple generated enviroment around it. It doesn't have to look like the real climb, just use the Alpe, Ventoux and Epic Climb assets to quickly generate something.

  • @Xhadp
    @Xhadp ปีที่แล้ว +38

    You know what would be cool? If we could implement the climbs in our own backyard into a feature like this.
    A virtual training platform could be able to extrapolate the elevation profile and curvature of the roadway from something like a strava segment to creature a visual fest similar to this.

    • @JohnSavageIreland
      @JohnSavageIreland ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In RGT you can take any GPX file and turn it into a virtual road you can ride in game and it's the best bit about RGT, you can practice for upcoming races or trips or visit interesting places e.g. formula 1 tracks. Doing it in zwift in this style would be awesome!

    • @meatmotorendurance
      @meatmotorendurance ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The HACK around this is to load a course into Best Bike Split, get the optimal power outputs and then turn that into a workout. I've done this for several TT race preps. I tend to do these for race prep on a flat flat route so it doesn't get weird because the terrain definitely won't correspond. An RGT-type upload a GPX with this simple colored layout like this would be great.

    As much as I'd prefer them to recreate the climbs visually and don't care much for the graphics. I think this allows them to put out more climbs in a quicker time. The color changing with the gradient is useful too. Great addition. Would be nice if we were able to have access to all the climbs on a daily basis and be able to choose which one we want to ride. But this is a nice feature, looking forward to using it.

      I think you can choose which one to ride. but only from the menu. I rode platzerwasel yesterday although an other climb was on.

    I have mixed feelings about it. I have been wishing they would add another big climb or two. This does that, but without environmental graphics and, it seems, without other riders - two things that make climbing the Alpe du Zwift more fun. The cynic in me thinks they did it this way just to get away with not having to model the environment. Probably true, too, because they plan to feature more than one climb (which is, admittedly, nice). However, I'm not so much a fan of this style over the Alpe, so hopefully they can implement something like what roguelikes do in games - add procedurally generated graphics for the climb. Or at least, allow other riders in too (with the ability to ride it solo if that's your desire). I'm kind of mixed on it. I got Zwift originally to help with the tedium of indoor training, and not having to stare at a power graph or the wall during my workout. This really is not all that far from that.

    • @Second247
      @Second247 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. I don't see reason for this approach in Zwift. If i want to challenge myself i race. If i want regular training session i rather train with ERG-mode and just zone out from the Zwift itself (rather watch some videos or play games).
      Then again maybe these would be good when finding a good climb, evading all the hassle to navigate to particular climb. And maybe the format gets me more involved with Zwift, not use it just for racing and ERG-mode. There is something nice of finding a good climb and mastering it in the meat-space. Maybe something similar could happen with this as well.
      I liked Sufferfest's/System's video-format as well even if it seemed lame at first.

    Hate the look - but the idea of having the most famous climbs is actually cool. I get why they did it this way, easier to pull in just the elevation data, but they could learn a thing or 2 from the sim racing modding world about pulling in worlds quickly. I was already looking at RGT to do the famous climbs any ways, I may still do it that way to be honest.

    This feels weird. If I want to climb the famous climb, don't I also want to see the surrounding? With this graphic style (that I think looks actually cool) every climb would look the same, right? To me it always feels special to climb the AdZ and see the nature changing with every meter of elevation. That would be missing, I guess. We'll see. I will surely give it a try.

    I have been cycling for a while (MTB, Road, Gravel) and used other smart trainer platforms and on Zwift for the last 6 months. To my surprise Zwift keeps things interesting because they are not shackled by reality. They can make the pavement change color with gradient, I can teleport into another group ride, take a coffee brake and stay in the group, train, do A-B-C-D group rides/races with or against fellow cyclists from all over the world. They keep coming up with new ways for me to enjoy riding.

    Is it gamified, or is it also a way to bypass Zwift's severe limitations within the game engine in developing new roads and routes? A generic background - it's all a big CSS snowflakey for my taste, is much easier to render if it's effectively a randomly generated set of sprites on a blank canvas.

    Nice touch with colour for gradients, but could alredy be integrated to existing roads on climps.
    About the grafic - It does not take a long time to build those grafics and a well coded AI/algorithem could easylig crate putt inn grafic and then have light rendering after.

    I'm okay with this change. It's clean, it's soft on the eyes, and it's better than waiting a year for Zwift to recreate the environments of so many roads. I'd also love to see this used on workouts but with some sort of visual cue for cadence requirements. Since these visuals are dynamic, I'd love to see the environment distort when my heart rate is raised - maybe a basic radial blur when you're in the red. And its okay with me if this development + Repack rush leads us to further gamification. I want to work out AND have fun sometimes.

      You've raised some valid points. Your idea about releasing climbs first and then updating graphics later is interesting. Thanks for watching!

    I’m not sure I care about realistic graphics. Coloring the climb based on gradient would help me pace it better I think.

    I think it looks good and I like the stripped down graphics and the visual style that shows the gradients like veloviewer but I find it frustrating that they don’t just release a list of climbs and you can choose which one and when you want to ride it rather than having just one at a time

    More real world climbs is great. Simplifying the graphics to allow for more climbs is a fine trade.

    I want to see a real world, animals, birds. That’s why I ride. Zwift is just cheating out.

    Have they run out of graphic designers?

    They are just cutting down their overhead and expenses to launch new routes while their revenues increase. More profit !

    This is very cool stuff. To be able to ride climbs you only dream about or see the pros climbing is a great addition, and the fact that they will continue to build routes is excellent for a realistic climbing library. The only PROBLEM is that WE ARE NOT PROs! My point here is this might cause more competition and injuries or worse! The climbs the pros do are certainly not park rides, and folks will have to take care not to overdo it, which we will. The IF and TSS scores for these routes will be off the charts compared to all routes except for ADZ. In summary, fitness is good, and challenging oneself is excellent, but as one who has overdone it on Zwift and required several weeks of recovery, I advise enthusiastic caution!

    Meh …. looks to me that Zwift are doing things on the cheap. I enjoy the visuals on the regular Zwift climbs and use various waypoints to break down the climb into sections. As Rolla dials up the graphics of indoor riding, Zwift does this.

    I'm personally indifferent about the climbing portal. Cool idea, though. I would like more QOL upgrades for organizing your garage, more colors/customization for bikes, and a fcking in-game lap button.

    I like climbing but this does not seem like of an improvement to zwift. I can do this on many other platforms with video/graphics of the climb and/or others also on the climb. Zwift is great (at least for me) since it seems like you can jump on the trainer and find groups of people to ride with any time of the day.

    I have mixed feelings about this. For me, even though I ride mostly solo on Zwift, it's being able to see other riders zoom around like in real life that makes Zwifting feel more realistic. This doesn't seem to include other riders when riding solo. Also, I'm not so sure about the "Toys-R-Us" roads. What about proper pavement, with maybe, AI generated graphics? Having said that, I'll need to experience it first before I give a final verdict. I'm hoping it's more fun than my first impression...

      There are no other riders in this video because it's a feature that wasn't released to all at the time it was recorded. Once it's out, all riders will see each other in here while riding.

    Nice idea but for what they charge a month, and keep upping the payments, rather see the other climbs. Honestly, i think zwift has become very complacent over the last few years

    Since scenery/visuals is half the fun for me and an important reason to use Zwift, it looks very boring to me, riding like that. For those climbs I would change to other software with real visuals about the surroundings.

    Oh wow, these climbs look hideous! I was very excited for that feature, to be able to ride more real climbs, but these visuals completely turn me off. I probably won‘t even try them.

    I think this looks cool. I'm for making it look more like Mario carts. But i always make excuses about using the trainer. I'd rather ride outside even in 100f

    Those graphics are wildly uninspiring. Some of the fun of climbing AdZ is recognising different visuals. I'm a lightweight climber, but this does not look like something I will put a lot of time into
