The servo I use the most is rarely mentioned and is quite a steal it's basically a rebadged Hitec 5955 TG (older 7955). 333 oz/in and .15 sec @6v and is sold under Tower hobbies brand as the TS-170 also Hobbico as the CS-170 for $90. I've run it in everything from steering an 1/8th scale truggy to steering my Wraith kit I just built without incident. Even has the titanium gears. I'm suprised I never see it mentioned and love to let new hobbyist know about it. I wish I had heard of it sooner.
Maybe you mean a different servo, the 1258 is under 200 oz/in of torque, I don't see that as a servo that I would put in a truck with 2.2 sized tires. Even my 1.9 trucks I like to see more power than that. The 1270 would be most comparable to the 9157 I used, looks like it retails for closer to $109. IF I was simply bargain shopping I would still go with the Hitec.
The GH horn looks like it has pressed splines instead of machined. The splines are cut very poorly and the fit was not even close to what I like to see. The Axial and Robotronics arms are made much better with properly cut splines and a great fit. I didn't want to waste the money by buying a second servo arm already but I couldn't stand to install it on the new servo.
I'm not saying you should use the 1258TG for Rock Crawler that's my Personal experience with their Servos, but you didn't specify any part number while saying "Savox Servos are not worth the Risk vs Cost" so that's General for All SAVOX servos regardless of use.. For rock crawler I would use 1283SG (.13/416oz)..
i know its prob not your thing but could you do a hsp monster sand rail budget build series .. i know everyone dislikes the hsp rc brand but its what i have an i have never had a fail or break yet an i give them hell along with my kids too ..also i love ya work mate all the way from perth western Australia

I'm just not a fan of them. I've ran them for short periods and wasn't pleased. I prefer Futaba but if you are buying anything else I would suggest Hitec. Find a Hitec with Titanium gears and you should be good for quite awhile.
I just got into rcs and bought this poison spyder, will be crawling and don't need speed, what is the best upgrades to do first? (Weakest parts) without spending gobs of money, if I upgrade servo, horn, and steering link will that make other things break faster?
I have always had sub 50 dollars servo in my 1.9 scaler and now i think its finally time to upgrade, are savox servos a bad option? Because in the 100 to 130 dollar range the Savox SV-1270TG and SB-2270SG seem like the best torque to cost ratio. One of these is a brushless servo, what are the benefits of brushless servos?
Dunno why the hate on SAVOX servos? YES they are Noisy but right now you cant beat the Specs for the Money of the Legendary 1258TGs with Nothing that Futaba or Hitec sells.. Cost and Risk? Puff got 3 of them and never had an Issue, Outlived 2x times more expensive Servos on a Single gear set.. I think you are a little bit Biased.
Josh Howard for about $50 the power HD wp 23kg is what I have I put it thru hell and its the longest lasting servo I have ever had on my wraith it's full water proof and titanium gears have had is submerged in 3 ft of water and didn't hurt a thing

U should have done a before and after action shot of the truck steering. To show speed and torque.
