Thanks! 43 year old newbie here (started rolling 4 days ago). That upper body explanation was gold for me. I could turn but wasn't aware that it was due to an instinctual upper body twist. After seeing your video and becoming conscious of my upper body twist, I can now turn much sharper and I can also power stop at lower speeds, which I couldn't do before.
@@KellySimon love that Kelly, thanks for sharing ❤️ I haven't been out of the house on them yet still waiting for my helmet to be delivered, but having so much fun so far 😁
tutorials like these really help me out at the age of 29 lol. Did roller blades a couple of times like 20 years ago, now we back practicing and developing basic skills. And its hella fun. Its been 2 days since i started practicing after 20 years, and Im picking up fairly quickly i think thanks to videos like these, but I really struggle with stopping at the moment hehe. But we'll get there hopefully. Thanks!
Glad you like the vid! Stopping is tough on rollerblades, but here’s a video that might help you! th-cam.com/video/DOkzoVgEUH0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nQF1ZGKHprJlZVM3
HOLY CATS! FINALLY!! I've been focusing so hard on the "stagger step" and I just. couldn't. get. it. One look at you and the visualization (or actually trying to) touch the ground during the turn and I FINALLY got it. And the additional help of seeing you turn just by turning your upper body. Thank you so much!!!
When you are turning in scissors position (and legs spreaded to the side - hand touch the ground), you get your weight to inside leg or outside leg (like in carving on skiing)?
Great tutorial, Marcel! You have the best (ice/inline/hockey) skating tutorials! I've been skiing a lot for a decade now, and now started learning ice skating over the winter and it's awesome. Now with the summer season I also started inline skating, and turning I found to be essential and slightly different than on ice due to the friction. May I ask what brand of inline skates are use using in this video?
Hi Balint, thanks a lot! Yes skiing will help you a lot with ice and inline skating, but like you said, turning is different and I find more difficult on inline skates. I am actually using my Bauer Hyperlite ice skates with and inline chassis put on them. I haven’t bought inline skates in about 20 years- I just always take a pair of my ice skates that I’m not using anymore and get wheels put on them!

Oh! okay that's good but am now learning how to ride an inline roller skates but I've kept falling each time that I tried and I don't know why especially the turning so please can you help me out because am your number one fun in Ghana and I've been watching your videos each and every day please help me out
I've been skating for a couple of months now, I still find it difficult to turn especially going left. I've noticed my left foot is always bent inwards whenever I'm moving which makes it difficult for me to turn left. I just can't seem to lean properly when turning.
That’s pretty normal at the start. You get used to it and then they hurt less. Orthopedic insoles also would because the regular skate insoles are usually not well made
Thanks so much! I only do them in the summer because in the winter I’m on the ice, and right now I’m injured too so I can’t shoot any videos, but I’ll slowly but surely keep bringing new inline vids out!
@@jacknim you should have a wide stance in the turn. Try to keep your hip, knee and ankle joints aligned though. Sometimes the ankle will bend inwards and you’ll feel like your foot is going to slip out.
I appreciate the way you are able to provide foundational versions of the technique that include the whole body, and not just a disjointed series of steps that are then recombined later. Helps a lot with maintaining the flow! 🫡
I got inline skates for my birthday and i wanted to learn for fun, this video really helped me a lot, thanks for these lessons ❤👑

The upper body is so important with all turns and crossovers!

This makes so much sense. Just started rollerblading a week ago, and this video explains it perfectly. Thank you.
Glad you liked the vid!
The intro song is played on some of the Hey Bear Sensory videos that I play for my son. I was very surprised when I heard it on the start-up!
Cool! I like the tune!
wow this helped me a lot. been watching other videos on how to turn and this one is the best one so far.
Glad I could help you out!
Perfect timing, just started playing inline for the off-season. It’s insanely more physical though, I threw up a little. Just in my mouth.
Don’t worry, I’ve thrown up playing hockey before too😃

Fantastic video! Really helpful. I’m still struggling to commit to the ‘outside edge’ of my inside skate. But I’m sure I’ll get there!

Danke!
Es ist nur Übungssache- man muss die schwache Seite mehr üben wie die gute.
will this also work in ice skating
?
Yes. Only on ice you can turn even sharper. I also have a full on ice turning video: th-cam.com/video/il4UslJVUQ8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=MC7XIB5PA1BF9xe7
Your skates seem really maneuverable, would hockey skates be good for urban skating?
Yes inline hockey skates are great for agility!
Recreational skates are more for straight lines, longer distances

taken me ages practice to get a fair turn. realised my upper was too hunched over for upper body turn. going the other way on weak side gonna be hard

i dont get how you curve and maintain speed without lifting your leg off the ground.
im doing the one legged exercise (supposed to be the easiest lol)
