    I'm 40 years old and have started inline skating after a 20 year lay off. I had trouble learning to run consistently even following your instructions. I realized that I wasn't leaning, "falling," into the turns enough. What helped me become more consistent, was to take my hands off my knees and extend my arm toward the inside of the turn with a bit of a twist at the hips. This isn't a critique of your lesson but just additional information that may help someone else.
    I'm slowly learning and progressing. Thank you for this and all your videos.

      I was told to do the same when doing turns in ice skating. If I'm turning left, lead with the left foot, and turn the torso towards the left, as if I'm going to hug the imaginary cylinder I'm circling.. (and since I'm learning this, it is pretty challenging at first.)

    Great video! But I'm still having trouble with Paralell turns.
    For some reason, when I put my left foot forward, I end up turning right, and vice versa. Whenever I try to turn my skates in the curve of the turn, the skates just end up going away from eachother. Any tips?

    • @skamidanen
      @skamidanen  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It doesn't matter which one is your leading skate, no matter the left or right one. It's just important that you keep yur skates apart and one skate more forward than the other one. If they are going away from each other, try to bend your knees a little bit more and try to keep tem parallel to each other. For that it's important to tense all of your legs muscles.

    • @Berniebud
      @Berniebud 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@skamidanen Thank you for the advice. I realized my problem was I was doing an A-turn instead of a parallel turn. Without going on my outside edge whatsoever. I'm still having trouble leaning that far as I'm afraid of falling on my side, but I'll keep at it. 👍

    • @Berniebud
      @Berniebud 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@skamidanen Alright I am now finally able to do paralell turns PROPERLY and the reason I couldnt before was because my skates were too far apart. Trying to keep one almost directly in front of the other got me to finally do proper turns, spreading them out a bit more as I do tighter turns

    I had a question related to crossover turn with skates having brake pads. My right skate has one, and when I try crossing my right leg over the left one, to make a left turn, the brake pad hits front of the left skate and I lose control. I have never seen any crossover turn video where the skater had the brake pad attached. Should I remove the pad from my skate? I anyway do not make use of the pad for braking.

    Hi Daniel. Wonder why you teach lunge (weight on forward, inside skate) first instead of parallel (weight on rear, outside skate) turn. In SkateFresh, Asha does parallel in the "beginner" module and doesn't do lunge until the "intermediate" module. What's your thinking on this? I've been skating for a couple months and I only recently got comfortable with parallel, am just starting to do cross-overs, and will start working on lunge soon. You make it look easy!

    • @skamidanen
      @skamidanen  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Craig, honestly, I've never thought about the difference between lunge and parallel turn. Why? Because from my lessons on-site I know that for some people it's easier doing a lunge turn first, for others the parallel turn is easier. However on the whole it's nearly the same.
      Today I know for the most people the cross over turn is the easiest one (at the beginning not really crossed, but that doesn't matter).
      And thank you! 🙂🙏 Keep on practicing! 🙂👌

    • @xfiringsquadx
      @xfiringsquadx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It took you a couple months to get parallel down? I'm 4 days in and was so discouraged that I can't even get close to doing it well yet. I'm 37 and just starting for the first time. Guess I just got a lot more practicing to do. 😁 But that gives me hope!

    Regarding the legs, is there a certain distance parameter that the legs should stay in? Like if your legs were further apart, how would that affect turning?

    • @skamidanen
      @skamidanen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thanks for your question. No there is no specific distance. The more you keep your legs further apart, the better the balance and the less the power transmission for doing jumps.

      First of all, thank you! 🙂🙏 To get into the correct body posture, you can practice how to jump. While doing this you'll strengthen your legs and also practice the general posture. Therefore I have another tutorial. I highly recommend to watch it. So, I'm sure you'll be able to keep the proper posture. ;)

    Ok so figured it out, you’re suppose to use the outside foot to push to allow your inside foot to turn its direction. If your a guy your natural stance isn’t parallel so your should feel like your legs are pointed in, at that point your feet should be parallel.

    • @skamidanen
      @skamidanen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They body weight is shiftet to the innerside of the circle. The faster you go the more you lean inwards. At the very beginning the center of body weight is right between your legs.

      Hey Asua, I'm sorry for my late reply. Sadly I don't have any real tips. I practice the frontside grind on down rails / copings for myself, but I don't get it yet. I think bending knees as deep as possible is the clue. But a Royal on downrails / down copings is much easier.

    I have been practicing for a bit, and I have been doing turns by moving one foot forward, then I automatically turn to the opposite side. I must be doing something wrong because that works so well but nobody ever says you can turn just by putting a foot forward. (Maybe I don't realize that I'm putting my weight on the other side which causes the turn?)

    • @skamidanen

    Is it the same with the skates that are parallel with the four wheels?

    • @skamidanen
      @skamidanen  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roller skating comes very close to inline skating. Most tricks and movements are practically identical. The general posture applies in all cases to all forms of skating: Quad skating, roller skating, inline skating, ice skating, snow skating etc. And yes, the turns shown here are also work for roller skating. 🙂👌

    • @skamidanen

      Exactly, in German or for us it sounds very harsh to pronounce the "R". Usually we pronounce the "R" at the beginning of a word, but not at the end or middle. Well, we pronounce the "R", but in another way (softer and sometimes more like an "A") than in the English language.

    your guy is doing it wrongly...he is too stiff.. the reason is probably the reason that the turning of the bust drives the turn, not the skates...if you turn your bust the way you want to go, your skates follows..the bust turbning is the driver ot the skatesneither the legs.The skates do what your body tells them. You will NEVER make a sharp paralell turn like they do in ice hockey this way...never...

    • @skamidanen
      @skamidanen  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your explanation, this is very helpful! :) The goal for this video wasn't doing sharp turns, just how to learn your very first turns on inline skates, especially for the people they have to overcome fear first. Sharp turns, hockey stops, power slides etc. are coming within our advanced episodes. Thanks! :)

    • @rolandbouchat7462
      @rolandbouchat7462 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is basically very simple...1) you take a bit of speed 2) if you want to parallel turn right you move your right skate forward of the length of the skate 3) you turn your bust on the right with your head aiming where you want to go... and miraculously...you parallel turn... the bust and the head drive it WHATEVER THE SPEED OR THE SHARPNESS OF THE TURN. Very simple. Just taught it to somebody in 1 hour and she wanted to do it for years!!!
