the fact the album starts with "welcome to the dead club city" and ends with "kill the dead club city" is amazing, definitely a journey

Dead Club City promotes itself as heaven on earth, a place where all your dreams come true, where you're happy all the time. But in reality it's a dystopian closed society. And "Pop the balloon" sounds like a call for a revolution, to break free from this bubble and destroy this place

Yeah he’s never sounded better! I’ve seen a few people saying he’s not using his falsetto enough, or there’s not enough “big” notes, but to me he’s just singing beautifully and he sounds absolutely gorgeous.
I think the point of Talking to Myself, specifically in the context of this album, is this: If DCC is a metaphor for our world and all the aspects of it that pertain to pleasure and fun and partying and city life, then Talking to Myself is how people that glamorize that lifestyle truly feel when they're alone. In public they have all the other songs (super fast pace, exciting, fun, smiles and yelling, getting drunk, blah blah blah) and they seem super happy on social media and in front of other people, but when they're alone everyone is super down on themselves, anxious about if people like them, and much slower. The song feels like an overthinker's theme song to me, especially with the last line of each verse being something along the lines of "But I don't really know that any of these things are actually true outside of my head". Even with all the happiness they show to others, inside they're scared and anxious about life just like everyone else. That's just part of being a human nowadays
I love seeing other people as filled with joy by this album as I am. Its gonna be on repeat for the rest of the year for sure

Now you only need to do Broken Machine and you're up to date! Honestly I'm so proud of this band. They're so underrated but they keep producing amazing music. I hope one day more people can experience them and they can finally be recognised for how they've changed the British Rock scene. Also, Conor's voice in this album was absolute perfection.

interesting, can you elaborate on why you like foreign city? i am a super fan of the band but to me its one of their weakest songs - in fact, their only song i do not like (also dont dislike, but by nbt standards, you know) LOVE the rest of the album
Tomorrow Is Closed made me cry. 10/10 song
Definitely love how this album still kinda feels like a continuation of Moral Panic. I've loved their newer sound and love seeing how they've been refining it
It definitely feels like a natural continuation of some sounds they explored on Moral Panic, but they also lean into a lot of influences I haven't heard them fully realize before like soul, RnB, hip hop, etc. It took a few spins, but I'm loving this album right now. Not a single track is wasted. If there's one thing I appreciate about NBT, it's that all of their albums is a unique experience. I'm pleasanty surprised at the lack of hard rock influences, but they leaned pretty heavily into that on Moral Panic (I & II). They kind of single handedly got me back into rock music. As someone who's dabbled on and off with music for the better part of two decades, I definitely struggle to make my songs a unique experience, and that's something I've definitely enjoyed with their music. I've got to say, Man-Made Sunshine really hit me hard, and with the release of this album, it doesn't feel as “out there” as it did when I first listened to it.
Moral Panic will forever be my favourite album. I can't see it ever being surpassed!

It's amazing how music affects people differently. We're all fans of NBT, but all have different favorites from this album. For me, Tomorrow is Closed is the clear favorite; spine-tingling and just awe inspiring. But others' favorites vary quite a bit. Such a great album.
100% and depending on your mood different songs will hit harder! Best thing about music and especially when artists are diverse!

I just can't get enough of listening to Keeping You Around, City Haunts and Do You Love Me Yet in order. Those 3 are the highlight for me. The Welcome to the DCC music video is definitely worth watching, I always add it to the queue when watching music videos with friends.

Can’t decide on what my fav song is right now, but Pop the Balloon was such a great closer that I wanted more of that! Maybe they have a few more songs (like they had for Moral Panic II) that fit into the DCC world, but I agree that “kill the dead club city” on the last song is a sign that we’ve left it behind 😅

Your reactions are blessing. Somebody else said your energy is contagious, and I'm inclined to agree. This is more or less how I've been vibing to this album for the past few days. I was fairly late to the party as well. I'd heard Graveyard Whistling and If I Get High when they were fairly new, but I never really explored their music beyond that. I'm grateful for that. When I joined the club (pun fully intended), I had three wonderful albums and a couple of EPs to get through. Their debut has wonderful moments, but it's arguably the weakest of the bunch, which feels silly since it's such a well crafted album.
I agree that Talking to Myself is the weakest of the bunch so far, but it's still more digestable than Pop the Balloon. Still, it's a grower, and as a closer it kind of wakes you up from the dream the was the rest of the album. It was perfect way to end the album, and is a very interesting track.
I'm struggling to pick a favorite, but right now I'm leaning toward Do You Love Me Yet? I'm also quite fond of Members Only, and Tomorrow is Closed. Welcome to the DCC and Overcome had already found a special place in my heart. It's hard to pick a favorite. I'll leave it at that 🤷♂️. As an album, it really gets to the point, and I imagine it's just going to keep growing from here.

Nothing but theives continues to be a strong up and commer. Though now they are much bigger than with their broken machine and other earlier albums. seeing them utilize natrarative stuff they started bringing with moral panic is amazing as they bring in another big statement album, its an open invitation to interperet this album in a lot of ways in relation to the dcc and the narrarative of the album. (Love it when a singer who fits perfectly into my voice range releases another full album to jam to.) Edit: forgot to mention my fav song on the album is City Haunts

Theres 3 music videos so far for the album and if you watch them you'll definitely get a more inside look in this world, theyre very worth watching. Theres a lot of hints in the music videos so far. Their lyric videos that they have for all the songs also contain few cool clues. Im getting the vibe thats its gotta be some sort of cult-like dystopian society advertised as the perfect dream but it all collapses in the end. An illusion of some sort. There's no such thing as heaven in the modern world, because behind everything shown as heaven there's filth and it will collapse in the end. Pop the balloon, according to the band is basically the start of a revolution. Also, theres never over analyzing with this band.

Really enjoyed your reactions to nothing but thieves. Came across this channel right on time to catch the self titles and dcc reactions.. i like the way you talk about the themes and meanings of the lyrics. Its one of the big draws to me from nbt. I think you are on point with your analysis of talking to myself.. i could totally see them making it underwhelming to represent peoples generally distaste for being alone with ones thoughts. My fav tracks are welcome to the dcc, tomorrow is closed, and members only :)
