I was in the audience at this show and this was probably the best performance of Gaza that I have seen (and I have seen them perform it several times). For a more positive vibe then please check out their live recording of the song Go (live at Royal Albert Hall) which shed a different light what Marillion does.

Gaza is an epic song and a song about humanity and man's inhumanity to man. It always makes me tear up too

Good for you to look at it from a humanitarian point of view because that is exactly what Steve Hogarth's point was with his lyrics here.

Great reaction Mr H, to an unbelievably epic song.
I have seen them do this live and it is just mind blowing to have thousands of fans singing along.
As for the song itself - I think they toyed with the idea of not releasing it, knowing the backlash it could cause from some sections of their fanbase - and in fact it did cost them some support, but they have always stood by their guns on difficult subjects, and many years after release, this is still a live staple and favourite.
Both Steves, Rothery on lead guitar, and Hogarth on vocals, were in stupendous form as I know you saw.
Next Marillion will be much lighter I promise - thanks again for putting this out there.

Such an emotional song and an amazing piece of music. All the emotion H puts into his singing is doubled by the emotion Steve Rothery squeezes out of his guitar. So underrated.

It's a fantastic song that walks a very difficult line! so much respect for this band and singer especially for this song. The only people to hate are the leaders who wage war, not the people! good on you for listening to it and give them respect!

this song and version is just mindblowing. the last section is so powerful & beautiful, it almost physically hurts. i cried like a baby on first listening to it, and I have tears in my eyes now.

Jumping in the deep end! Seen this performed live, seen Marillion live countless times. I know you have done some Nightwish reactions and I think Marillion would equal them in the complexity of the compositions and the emotions and the depth of the messages they try to convey. They organise conventions where they play three gigs over one weekend, and during downtime they mingle with fans. Very approachable and thoroughly great people. Look forward to more reactions to their music.

@@paulf2557 It's Marillion all the way for me too. First time I saw them was in 1983 or 84 in Utrecht. Last gig, who knows. Will see them in Cardiff this year, barring any more disruption. Convention was the best weekend ever, in Port Zelande. People from all over the globe, having a three day party.

What PaulF said, right below. This is NOT at all their usual style, and they did indeed struggle amongst themselves as to whether they should release it or not. Whether listeners would "get it", see that they were not taking sides, whether usual listeners would be able to swallow their usual distaste and simply see the Palestinians as people. Hurting people, buried people, people having to fight back, but still just people. This song, since release is VERY hard for me to listen to, regardless of their skills in playing it, etc. Made me bawl on first lower grade mp3 release to the fans ahead of the CD. I listened to it for a few repeats until the context and words sunk in. Then sat and bawled for a half hour or so. And I'm not a crier. They did indeed loose some folks, and that is heartbreaking, but... Those of us that hung in suddenly gave them far more respect than they HAD had. Appreciate all you had to say during. (* Oh! And I'm impressed you stuck with the entire piece. Much props!)

I was at CTTE in 2018 and h was asked about the writing of Gaza. He said that for doing so he held Skype calls with people on both sides of the "wire", with the sole purpose of being able to portrait what it is like and what is means for a young person to live in Gaza. As the song reflects, he doesn't intend to express support to any side; just to scream "it just ain't right!". This is my favourite Marillion song.

This song was released in 2012. Ten years later nothing has changed and the world closes it's eyes tighter. The song is from the persp0ective of a 13 year old boy growing up in occupied Gaza. An occupation 6that started in 1967. I was born in 1963 so that is almost my whole lifetime. This one makes me weep like a baby knowing it is from a child's perception. Marillion have a new album, out and I would suggest reacting to Be Hard On Yourself- it has to do with human lust for luxury and how we close o9ur eyes to what we are doi8ng on planet earth. Love your channel. This was a great reaction.

Great song, great performance. Songwriting and artistic execution at it's best.
HxC, maybe you are interested in the early origins of Marillion, the 'Fish era', some are talking about here. Some suggestions for you:
'Sugar Mice' Live from Loreley 1987 th-cam.com/video/8b4Zc0icktU/w-d-xo.html
'Script For A Jester's Tear' Live at Hammersmith Odeon 1983 th-cam.com/video/gaBjdLQ0LJ0/w-d-xo.html
And a very special one with another sensitive topic. I'm not quite sure whether this would be a good idea for a reaction (you have been warned),
but the song is iconic and one of my all time favourites:
'Forgotten Sons' Live at Hammersmith Odeon 1983 th-cam.com/video/ePR5YUkq_WY/w-d-xo.html
