Artistry and passion. That's Marillion. They should call one of their albums "What it's like to be human", 'cause they tell it better than anyone else.

What a young Steve. This band was my first musical love and still stays in my heart for more than 30 years now.
I would love to see more of them on this channel. I've seen only a few reactions to their work so far.
Great reaction and thx to @PaulF for bringing them to HC's attention.

Welcome to Marillion, you've got so much to catch up on. This clip is from the full length movie of the album Brave, directed by Richard Stanley, he of The Island of Dr. Moreau infamy. The album concept was based on a news report of a woman found wandering near this bridge in distress and unable or unwilling to speak or tell her story.

What? Stanley directed this? I love Mandy and The Color out of Space.

The discography of Marillion is full of magical wonders. I discovered them shortly after the end of the "Fish era" and in the more than 40 years of their creative work they morphed many times without losing their inner core. So many good memories. This is a deep rabbit hole !

This whole album is fantastic, and was probably well ahead of its time. It took time for the album to get the praise and recognition it deserves. Marillion has a fantastic back catalogue. Songs with water related themes or titles are worth checking out, as well as the backgrounds. Songs like Estonia and Out Of This World are terrific songs, inspired by true events.

i saw Marillion on the tour for this album in 94 in Bristol, we crossed that bridge to get there from Wales, the singer apologised for making the girl famous with the story , what a show that was , magic

Thanks for your genuine and smart reaction. Marillion might be my #2 favorite band. The visual effects of the video haven't aged well, still the storytelling and the black and white sequences are pristine. Such a devastating song (as is the plot of the short movie), yet powerful and heavenly beautiful.

Definitively do more Marillion. They’re oh so worth it!
And I totally agree. If you think you want to end your life, what you actually want is to end the current situation. Just change, get help to change, and you’ll change it, without having to end anyone’s life.
I really appreciate you understanding things song. Be well!

Nice to see Marillion here. I hope you do check out lots of songs from their first albums, where Fish is the frontman. I like those much more than the later stuff, but opinions are split on the Hogarth/Fish thing. Just react to all of it! 😄

I prefer the Fish era Marillion too, though I have nothing against the Hogarth stuff. Just happy to see Marillion reactions.

Heh. Nice one! Aurora reactions and now Marillion? Two of my favourite acts, and the latter my favourite bar none. I feel Aurora and Marillion in the post-1989 incarnation share some significant common vibes and themes. I recommend checking out "White Paper", "Go!" or "The Space" by Marillion in Royal Albert Hall, available on TH-cam.

This was released in 1994 and the LP version of this had two different grooves. One groove had her commit suicide and the other , while not a happy ending, at least had her survive. As Josh has explained below, the premise of the album ;concept' was a news report on the radio when a young woman was found on the Severn Bridge (between Bristol and Wales in the UK. She wouldn't or couldn't speak , and Steve Hogarth took that premise and created a narrative around it.
You may like to react to 'Gaza' written in 2012. True stories and accounts from both Palestinians and Israelis were woven into this epic song. Here is the link th-cam.com/video/uaBVTtt53FA/w-d-xo.html Thank you. Kev from England

Brave is my favorite album from Marillion, one of my top 5 band. This song is perfection. As it's written in the booklet "play it louds with lights off". Reminds me of my time of my military duties in Berlin, when the album was realeased and were I get it and listen so many times walking at night on the streets of Berlin to come back to the Quartier Napoléon, the french headquarters where I were affected in 1993-1994. Great sad memories, sad music is often the most beautiful, check the Requiem from Mozart. Play you the whole album by yourself.

LOVE this band and have done for years. Would love to see your reaction to Neverland (a song that’s made me cry when they perform it live several times). Also you need to check out Easter, what a guitar solo!! Love that you are taking this journey! Enjoy!

Great reaction but ... the video is a too strict interpretation of the story. The album version is longer and it is the culmination of the album but the band couldn’t settle on wether she actually had jumped or not. So, when they released it on vinyl the side with this track actually has double grooves so depending on luck you either got the video version of the song followed the sound of waves lapping against a shore or you got the longer album version followed by the acoustic song Made Again, which is a more optimistic view on the whole story.

I'm glad you were introduced to Marillion with this song. BUT ! this is extracted from a concept album and begining by the end of the story makes no sense imo. For sure "The Great Escape" is a marvellous song to listen to with its lush instrumentation and heavy dramatic feels. You however shall listen to the whole album "Brave" straight to get it clearly. One of the best achievements in term of conceptual album by a prog rock band. I click the ring and hope you'll dig further into this band's work ! Cheers from France

No, no, no! Marillion only with Fish ! He is true poet and charismatic vocalist! Script for a Jester's Tear, Fugazi, Misplaced Childhood and Clutching at Straws. This albums are amazing when you listen to them in full .
