It’s funny that the SQ lifestyle is still underground. When I went to my local audison retailer to buy my DSP, the sales rep told me to just use LOC’s, and he also said that he didn’t know how to tune a DSP. Some shops just want to sell equipment, install some LOC on 9k worth of equipment and send them out. It’s like buying a 4k TV and using a VHS to watch a movie.

@@davidperry4013 which is why you might need LOCs to upgrade a newer cars sound system. I dont know why automakers did this, other than keep ham fisted bad installers from fucking up their cars.
Thank you for making this video. I was 16 when I went to my first car audio show. I can remember at first being drawn to all the bass demo vans like the Power Supply Van and Factory Demo cars dedicated towards SPL. I thought it couldn't get any better and then, by chance I stumbled across a BMW 3 series that was prepping for SQ. I was blown away at how clean the install was, but confused that he had spent all this money and the system didn't have a lot of bass. i guess he could see I didn't understand what the purpose of his stereo was until he invited me to sit in the driver seat and he ran a short SQ demo. I understood immediately and that opened my eyes to an entirely new segment of car audio. This video brought me back to that moment.
This is practically my same story, and my exact experience concerning this video! Thank you for sharing it and saving me time by not typing nearly the same words! Cheers!
@Martin Jacks That 3-series BMW was probably either owned by IASCA SQ competitor Mic Wallace (now mostly a SQ competition judge), or Steve Brown's BMW, from Alpine Electronics (he still works for Alpine and helped to develop the new Status and Status # F1 system).
Thank you my friends from Five Star Car Stereo I just order one of those nice CDs and thank you for all the video that you post I've been learning a whole lot from you guys thank God for that so I will call you guys in the future to have a little conversation have a blessed day God bless you all
While this happen, in Sound Quality, it happens more in SPL. None of these cars would sell for less than the audio is worth, though. Sound Quality is way more subjective, but refined, than SPL is and the owners tend to be more anal about the show car aspect of the installation.
Oh Dean Dean Dean....... Please, PLEASE, PLEASE, stay up on that offer. I would really like to have that CD. I watch everyone of your videos and will definitely be trying to get one of those CD's.
Five Star Car Stereo yes it was a great time back then before everyone started adding video to their systems. One of the best cars I ever heard was Earl Zausmers BMW 540i. He had home B&W home speakers and TUBE amps in his car! ALL speakers were in the front of the car including 12 inch subs in the front fenders!! Now that was cool.
@@luvmybeemer Zausmer took first at a show I did in AZ in april 98. I won my division (nov 601+). Earls car was awesome, were those B&W tweeters on the dash motorized/retractible? A lot of over the top cars in those days. I had Image Dynamics horns on top of my dash, a guy who worked for them turned the whole dash of his black Gran Prix into a pair of horns. The Holdaways at USD Audio were building some incredible cars with soundstages a mile wide and deep. Horns fell out of fashion because theyre hard to tune but if you dedicate their own amp channel to them using the amps crossover to interact with the conventional midbass drivers its not an issue really. You also cant push the crossover point too low or they get that awful honk sound. I used an a/d/s p840 set up so you could access the crossover points and level controls for each channel right from the drivers seat (C4 Corvette) so tuning was a breeze.
Oh yeah, I won my division (SoCal) on points that year and got invited to the finals in Dallas that you won. I was a member of teamROCs an internet based enthusiast club. My tow van blew up outside Yuma on the way which was okay since I was fucking exhausted by then. The next year I started work on a system in my custom 65 cadillac hearse, never got to compete with it as rust ate it up on the way. Had some crazy things going on with it tho, including a pair of 15s in a sand jacketed enclosure, aluminum horns with adjustable angle/height, and mid bass drivers in the kick panel vents in fiberglass and birch enclosures lined with clay sealed over with sikaflex. The original vent sliding controls in the dash were hooked up to the horns to adjust the angles.
@@batvette yep, Zausmer and I spoke at length about those B&Ws. He and his installer had added a laser type of system that would work with the height of the judges so the speakers would be ear level with different sized judges! Zausmer LOVED showing that car off and to me, that car sounded the best. I was getting onto 2 channel stereo back then and even though my home system was very modest being one of those rack systems of the day, I used to take it serious. Imagine when I find out he took those expensive home speakers and took them apart to place in a harsh environment like a car? He was a friendly guy and enjoyed competing.
