Thank you for sharing your expert knowledge and demonstrating the techniques! I can tell you are a master of the art because you make difficult skills look easy.
Thanks so much for this vid. completely unrelated to what I'm doing as a project but you actually handled the sheet and demonstrated flexibility which is all I needed to know.
This was a great video. Very informative. I like how you compared the different materials, and best uses. The material has a ton of applications, even in the marine industry. Thanks! 👍👍
I have bought a 1/4” of Blown pvc at 24”x 48”. Having a hard time finding a threaded insert for it, to mount my amps to. On the inside of my 2014 jeep Cherokee limited. I am running a kicker zx1500.1 and a Rockford fosgate prime r300-4. I have 1/2 of your tools in your toolbox. I don’t have the drill bits for threading yet. But I do have the threaded installer and threaded inserts installer for an impact driver, that are both from your tool box. I’m expanding a little at a time. Father of 2 girls, 17 and 2. The oldest loves stereo systems. So I saved and got what I needed to install my system this summer when she visits from so cal. I live in Maine. I plan on going to the back seat install for the amps. Full back seat install. The nugget rides in the middle in a rear facing seat. Have kicker cs speakers all around. 6x9 in rear doors, 6 1/2 components up front, both off the Rockford amp, eventually. The 3 1/2 kicker cs up front in the corners is off the stock deck. I will be running 3 kicker 12” doc 4ohm l7’s off the kicker amp wired at 2.45 ohms. Just trying to perfect the install! Any suggestions on the inserts for the amps? Using what I have? Or should I mount them in a different area? I don’t have the premium system. Or should I save for 1/2” abs plastic ? My goal is to have a system wired just like yours!! This time around I will minus the braided covers on the wires. I can add on later, when I find my color scheme in stock. Black and yellow. Steelers and Boston Bruins colors. Hopefully you can help. (207) 800-5920
I'm glad I stumbled onto this video. I just bought an android car stereo and for better visibility I'm mounting it on top of my dash. On the 98-02 forester there's a storage spot on top of the dash where I removed and add the stereo. I tried to wrap fake leather on Styrofoam, but it looks bad. So. I am going for abs plastic and use the heat torch I already have to build the housing.
thank you guys so much for taking the time to do these videos guys! i've been watching a bunch of em to help me plan & install a system in my new vehicle. i watched your oscilliscope vid after buying that liumi scope you guys showed to figure out the clipping point for my factory head unit, watched the lc7i vid to help me decide to go with that for intergration with my factory head unit which already has apple carplay etc, & this one on which plastic to go with in order to make a couple amp & battery racks on either side inside the humps to the left & right of the rear strut panels in my hrv have been so valuable!
flush cutters are a life savor, but for anyone who doesn't want to spend the $$ for a good set, or in a bind at home. My $200 tech tip. Use rounded toe nail cutters. I keep a few sets around just in case I need to do zip-tie work. Puts a really smooth round edge on it that wont send you to the ER
Seriously awesome video! Very much appreciate you sharing your knowledge and insight! Very informative video and covered pretty much everything i wanted to see and learn!
Omg thanks i have been looking for 1/4 inch abs forever and also the wire looms. So glad i watch your videos and can purchase this thru your site. Thanks again guys keep the videos coming awesome.
Wow. nicely done. Well scripted. Nicely edited. Fernando looks like a hard worker. The boss has no boss attitude. Well done. I would work there if I could. TT
Bosses need boss attitude when workers aren't into their job. Those workers should re-home themselves to spare everyone the BS. But as you witness here, when good workers are present, there's no need for boss attitude. Simple.
Was trying to come up with something and haven't done my install. Have a few 1/2" cutting boards. Figure I would cut them to what I want. Install going in a polaris slingshot.
Lil tip when bending it in the car and you want to cool it faster turn a can of computer dusting spray upside down and spray it to get it to set up faster.

For those of us with retail license, where can we get these wholesale? None of my distributors in northern california carry any plastics larger than 1/8th in. thickness, I'm now attempting to find a wholesale source.
what seller do y'all use for buying the plastics from I just bought some from sibe-r plastic supply both 1/8 &1/4 " pvc closed cell expanded plastic for an amp rack and and a speaker plate for my door for a 4" and a 6.5" 3 way component set
I just tried to cut 1/4 inch thick ABS with a hand jig saw and I ended up melting the plastic which made it useless. Not happy. I wish I had a router but since I don't do as much fabication that you guys do.......
@@FiveStarCarStereoInc Thanks. I didn't think a metal cutting blade would do that kind of damage but it did. The blade for plastics worked out a lot better
versus HDPE ?? Which one for large amp rack? I'm thinking HDPE (3/8") (bcuz HDPE is what Menards has) but my first amp rack I used 1/4" ABS and it worked well but only found on Amazon and their extra delivery charge for this stuff is like $7 p/ foot. (regardless if a Prime member or not). Menards is $99 for 4'x8' sheet of 3/8" and $59 for 1/4" versus the $50 for a 2' x 4' 1/4" sheet.
You can cut ABS with a jig saw with a pendulum action. Also set the speed down. I use my festool Carvex PS 420 jigsaw to rough cut ABS and 22mm MDF often. The cut is very efficient and the jigsaw blade doesn’t heat up much which results in the blade lasting a long time and plastic doesn’t melt back together.
Question: Can this material be used with a vacuum table? Say I have something I would like to make a mold from using PVC.... I've seen what I'm talking about done with vinyl but that's really not durable enough for what I have in mind. Also, this seems like the way to go if I wanted to make a custom center console for my Accord. It looks a lot easier than fiberglass and resin, etc... Would you agree? I'm very tempted to try this.... I've found out that fiberglass resin doesn't like to stick to interior panels (no matter what I do). Could I get any advice, opinions, etc... New sub to your channel!
Had figured most of the bending and cutting by watching Installer Diaries and experimenting on my own. But a lot of questions were answered about using screws. Especially the drill bit that taps threads.
OK I watched this twice, and they are never clear which plastic is which in their tests... very odd. He starts out by saying that he mostly uses ABS, but then seems to be selling PVC as doing better in each test... but he only refers to the 2 plastics as "his" and "mine" and there are no labels, so I didn't really learn much from this. He showed 2 types of threads, which was great, but didn't identify either one of them, just calling them both "this guy here"... HUH?
Dean & Fernando, dont get sick , 5 star is my favorite show, bros!!

a slightly modified angle pick works much better than a knife for cutting ABS.

What is centro plastic is that just another name for pvc

I would say no to pvc in a vacuum mold. It will not keep its shape in heat
Where do you get your foam pvc from?
What else can we use to cut abs for those of us that dont have a full shop and will only cut once or twice?
circular saw is fine
What’s centra. Sentra. Scentra????
Do you have a special blade on the table saw or a general wood blade works fine ?
Awesome my friends. Super informative as always
What is the experience with using a Dremel tool to cut up to 1/4"?
Do you guys ever glue abs together? If so what kind of glue do you use?
i used construction caulk liquid nails, wasn't super strong but rough up surface first
the best!
Dean question brotha can I use rivnuts on the expanded pvc or how would you mount amps to it ?
What do you guys typically use for the standoffs?
whats it's called? centra or sentra?
Where can I buy these?
Had figured most of the bending and cutting by watching Installer Diaries and experimenting on my own.
But a lot of questions were answered about using screws. Especially the drill bit that taps threads.
So Sintra is also PVC?
Sintra is a brand of expanded pvc
HDPE ??
Any ideas on how to make a wooden amp rack wires clean / ziptie like the plastics?
So Dean, I guess “you zip tie bro”...lol
Sounds like you should wear hearing protection in your shop. Anyway, I wish I could justify the expense for all that equipment that you use.
I will just bring it to you to do the heavy lifting lol
this video more than any other made me understand the raw privalage and optimism of the American middle class XD
You need a cross cut sled for that table saw! Anyone else cringe @ 6:23?
Nope, but I comprehend it's a jigsaw and not a table saw.
