My family is from Liverpool and I was born in Southport but moved to Edinburgh when I was a baby. I have so many memories visiting my grandparents who still lived there and seeing Matthew steet
Just a wee tip .. My wife and I have just returned from a short break in Liverpool. During our time, we bought all zone Saveaway tickets. These are all-day tickets and work on buses, Merseyrail trains and even on the ferry. These cost £6, if purchased directly from the ticket office at Lime Street Station. Buying elsewhere means you need to pay an extra £1 for a plastic MetroCard, although this would be for the first purchase only. We took the ferry to Seacombe, then a bus to Hamilton Square from where we caught a train back over to Liverpool Central. That trip only took about an hour, so we had the rest of the day to explore elsewhere, using the same Saveaway ticket
Great vlog and coming from Glasgow i have to say that Liverpool & Liverpudlian’s in general are the friendliest and most genuine people I’ve ever came across wonderful people with a great sense of humour , amazing city 💚
@@lordred4116 hi there great to hear you enjoy our city I’ve been in the state bar loads of times through the years i love a wee whisky as well Glasgow has loads of great wee bars dotted around and there’s always a warm welcome for all our visitors
Glasgow and Liverpool, are so culturally alike, which might be down to the Irish Diaspora of the Victorian era, which itself to the remarkably similar 'fiery' local and civic politics! 👍
Liverpool is my favourite place in the UK and quite possibly my favourite place ever! If you go back, go for 2 or 3 days at least. Great places to visit are: ⭐️ Metropolitan Catholic Cathedral; ⭐️ World Museum; ⭐️ Walker Art Gallery; ⭐️ Museum of Liverpool; ⭐️ Tate Gallery; ⭐️ Hop On/Off Bus Tour; ⭐️ St. John's Beacon Viewing Gallery; ⭐️ Royal Liver Building 360° Tour; ⭐️ Top of the Anglican Cathedral (2 elevators and a lot of steps but worth it if you can); ⭐️ Liverpool 1 Shopping; ⭐️ Albert Dock in the evening.
new subby here, and a Scouser in Ireland. So glad you love my home town. You have to see the Glass houses in the parks... or the beach in Southport and Blackpool that never ends.. But Blackpool is a little tacky, totally embraces the English seaside vibe.
my son in laws grandad built the actual yellow submarin for the beatles that is showcased in liverpool, the same one they used in their video, they were all invited to the unveiling of it in liverpool a few yrs ago, it was built in lincolnshire in his garden..
A fun fact that the Liverpool Anglican cathedral was built using sandstone from Woolton Quarry which was up the hill from John Lennons house. Although the name The Quarry men came from Quarry bank high school, I always thought it was from the Quarry near where he lived.
As a Scouser Am glad you enjoyed our city it is one of the best and some of the nicest people you could meet despite what people say hope you come back one day
@@jimwalsh8520 No doubt about people being nice all over the world but i did not claim we are the nicest i said we are some of the nicest . But sprinkled with some right idiots HA HA .
My younger daughter was born on the Wirral but grew up in Austria but studied at UK Universities. She did her Masters' at University of Liverpool Business School which has an excellent international reputation. She loves the city, the people and goes back regularly to meet up with her university colleagues from all over the world. She even convinced some of her Brazilian friends to follow Everton after she took them to some games at Goodison. That's my girl 😀☺👍
Everyone agrees that people from Liverpool are friendly. But they freeze over when you tell them that you're from Manchester. And you have to explain for the one millionth time that you don't give a toss about bloody football. It gets tiresome....
Same here. We moved from the London suburbs to Merseyside about 3 yrs ago. We're about 40 minutes away by train from Liverpool Central station. Wild horses wouldn't drag me back to living inside the M25.
Thanks for visiting my City, I hope you enjoyed your time here. In reference to the food “scouse” it’s actually Norwegian in origin! Sailors used to eat it and bring it into the Port. A couple of suggestions to visit next time: Ferry Across the Mersey Walker Art Gallery Williamson Tunnels
I love how when you posed in front of the Penny Lane street sign you were also literally "there, beneath the blue suburban skies" as the lyrics go. So cool.
Your enthusiasm is very infectious, getting hooked on your vlogs. I'm from Northern England - York, but I've never been to Liverpool, shame on me, looks like a really great City! Great vlogs guys.
Glad you loved Liverpool, it’s an amazing city. My in-laws are originally from Woolton, where John and Paul met. My sister in law walked from their house to George Harrison’s parents house in the early 60’s, and were given autographs, but she gave them to her friend for safekeeping as my father in law hated The Beatles. She never saw them again. My husband’s cousin was reputed to be good friends with John and Cynthia in the art college days. We love the city, we have spent 3 special occasions there in the last few years. We celebrated my 40th, our daughter’s 18th and this year our wedding anniversary. Our daughter requested that she wanted her first alcoholic drink in the Cavern on her 18th, we granted it. The Cavern there now is not the true original, but a very close replica. The original one was demolished before Matthew Street became what it is now. We saw Suzanne Vega at the Philharmonic Hall on our last visit for our wedding anniversary in February. Some things to look for next time: you can visit both Mendips (John Lennon’s Aunt’s house on Menlove Avenue) and Paul McCartneys homes if you book in advance with the National Trust. Our daughter enjoyed the Slavery museum in the Albert Dock, and the Dock is well worth a walk around with its quirky gift shops. The ferry across the Mersey is excellent too. The museum of Liverpool is very good, and has a lovely cafe. The Liver building looks amazing at night, lit up beautifully. We stayed at the Travelodge nearby and walked to take photos. All the docks and waterside areas are illuminated at night. Did you know that the 4 bells in the modern Catholic cathedral are nicknamed John, Paul, George and Ringo? Their proper names are the apostles.
I’m a scouser, one evening in the Alchemist with family I started chatting with a group of young ladies with Brummie accents. I asked were they at Uni in Liverpool, they said no, we’ve just come for a night out, going back tomorrow 😊
If its clear weather you guys should head up to the top of the cathedral (about £10ish each) it's got great views! The museums are not to be missed either!!
That scouse looked pretty authentic - but when I was growing up in Liverpool we would have pickled beetroot with it, not cabbage. When you visit again, try a pub called the Philharmonic Dining Rooms (!) in Hope Street.
Growing up in Liverpool we always had pickled red cabbage, never beetroot, it came as a shock when I first saw it in a friend's house, red cabbage is much nicer.
I love Liverpool. I’m originally from The Wirral, just across the Mersey river, and I went back to Liverpool for uni. There are so many fun things to see if you get the chance to go back. The Jacaranda is my favourite pub in Liverpool, and it has some great Beatles history away from the tourist trail - the basement was an early rehearsal space but they were put to work decorating the place - you can still see some great bands down there. It’s a really chilled vibe. Since I lived there, they’ve put booths in the room upstairs where you get your own turntable to play records on, and loads of music to choose from. I’d also recommend Port Sunlight. It’s an easy train journey. Then Chester. Walking the city walls in Chester is a great experience. The city is beautiful.
Look forward to welcoming you back to Liverpool; you really need a good few days or longer to appreciate all we have to offer, not only in the city itself, but the surrounding areas... The largest collection of Grade 2* listed buildings outside of London, the RC cathedral down the road (Hope Street) from the Anglican, the museums... And curiosities such as an extremely rare Edward VIII post box and the crypt of an infamous gambler that's above ground to cheat the devil... And outside the city you have the beautiful countryside of the Wirral and the beaches of both Wirral and Sefton, with Anthony Gormley's "Another Place" at Crosby... Actually, you need a lifetime to appreciate it - I'm still discovering things in my city and wider area, and I ain't dead yet ;)!
Albert Dock, Tate Liverpool. St George’s Hall, Walker Art Gallery. Museums, Liverpool Central Library see an event at St Luke’s bombed out Church. Just to mention a few
A couple of observations. The Cavern you visited is not infact the original cavern club, which closed in 1973. Also the food Scouse isn't something particularly unique to Liverpool either. It is derived from Lapskaus, a norwegian dish (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lobscouse) and very similar to irish stew and lancashire hot pot.
A favorite travel memory for me (as you can see from my picture)...my husband and I are such huge Beatle fans...it was such a wonderful experience visiting Liverpool and it's fabulous people back in '16. I hope to visit again!
Glad you liked your visit to my home city, got some bad new for you, the Cavern Club you visited was not the one the fab 4 played in, the original club was demolished when the mersey rail underground line was built in the 1970's.
Uma Brazilian-American living in Austin Texas and I visited Liverpool during the coronation of King Charles ! I went to London and witnessed history . I’ve been a royalist ever since Diana got married and I deserved that trip . I also visited Stonehenge, Fortnum & Mason , Enfield Stadium and the Cavern Club . My trip wasn’t enough to cover all I needed in Liverpool. I’ll be back for more in April 2024 ! I left my heart in Liverpool. Cheers from Austin Texas . Claudia
Good vid;lived and studied in Liverpool(1989-95) as former LJMU graduate and still have a number of good friends living there, but a lot of tourist attractions which the city now offered, were not there, when I was,so its weird for me to see how so much has changed[cf.Evan Edinger's vid from last year, etc.]! 😁 P.S. You visited the Anglican Cathedral,as I was the 1st student union rep. for the student accommodation/academic block, literally next door there!👍
Thank you for going to Liverpool, if you go back go on the ferry across the Mersey. If your feeling adventurous you can also go to the beautiful Isle of Man by the fast ferry.
Ahh man! I would of loved to of given you a day out in our town. An alternative tour gathering such delights as *The Sandy beach, which is Liverpools best kept secret. *The Most Ornate Pub Toilets in the World (The Philharmonic) *And from the right angle 'Queen Victoria's C**k' Among a few. It's always an absolute heart warmer to see people come here and love the place. We appreciate it more than you'll ever know. Our sunsets are amazing too. Much love ya. Nice one Kidda. Cheers.
If you come back to Liverpool again and you like Tudor history/Tudor houses then you must go to Speke Hall in south Liverpool. Sadly, John Lennon airport is right next door but the house and grounds are amazing (I would go there on a sunny day in summer personally).
When I moved to Liverpool in the early 70's, they were still building the Anglican Cathedral. I think they started in the early 1900's. The original Cavern was knocked down after a long campaign to save it, so everything you see is a replica. There are 2 cathedrals in Liverpool. The Catholic cathedral is very modern and fondly known as 'Paddy's Wigwam'.
I think the original Caven had a fire. There is a big gap where it used to be. St Luke Church is good. It's a church that was bombed in ww2 and its still standing. We call it the bombed out church. They sometimes have parties and eventing in there.
@@kandelfamilylife No it was sold to British Rail in 73 to be a ventilation shaft for the merseyrail loop but couldn't be made to work so it was filled with concrete. They did try to unearth it later but the damage was unsalvagable so they knocked it down and built a slightly bigger recreation slightly to the side of the original.
I'm from Liverpool and live a mile or so away from Strawberry Fields. It's a shame you didn't get to see more of the sights, but you certainly seem to have done the right thing in doing the Beatles Story, the Magical Mystery Tour bus and Mathew Street. As for places to go next time you're here. I'd recommend going to Birkenhead on the other side of the River Mersey. Birkenhead Park was part of the inspiration for Central Park in New York.
Firstly, Thanks for visiting our great city. If you ever make it back here, then a ferry across the Mersey is a must. It's quite inexpensive, and will give you a better view of the city centre. I'm usually driving past most of the locations you visited on a daily basis. It's a shame i didn't see you both. Hope you enjoyed our hospitality 👍
Giles Gilbert Scott designed some wonderful buildings. He was just 22 years old when he was selected as the architect for Liverpool Cathedral. He also designed Bankside power station, now home of Tate Modern, Battersea power station, to name just a few. His grand father was the architect George Gilbert Scott, responsible for the Midland Hotel at the front of St Pancras station, the Albert Memorial opposite the Albert Hall.
There are 2 cathedral's in Liverpool, you were in the Anglican cathedral designed by a Catholic, and there is nearby the Catholic cathedral designed by a Anglican and known locally as paddy's wigwam because of its shape with a central altar.
I've got most the Beatles autographs except John's as he died before I was born my mom's faves was John and Paul I brought my dad a Beatles t-shirt and a yellow Submarine toy from a local charity shop a few months ago I've also got autographs of the Beatles drummer and off the guy who did the record cover of sergeant pepper
I think the concept of the Whispering Arch was taken from the design of the very famous Whispering Gallery in St Paul’s Cathedral in London, which was designed by the incredible architect, Sir Christopher Wren. If you haven’t been inside St Paul’s, it’s unbelievable. In my opinion, it’s the cathedral to end all cathedrals - it’s even more beautiful than some of the Catholic ones you find in the Mediterranean countries, and that’s saying something. You can climb all the way up to the top of the dome below the spire, although there are around 500 steps. The trek up is insane. It’s a heck of a climb just to get to the first level on the roof, and then you briefly come outside and you get a fantastic view across London and the City. But THEN, you go inside the dome itself, and begin the second leg of the climb, and it’s like a series of cast iron spiral staircases with platforms in between, like you’d get on a fire escape, and you just keep going up and up and up. Eventually, you get right to the top and come outside to a small viewing area that goes all the way round (it feels very safe though, with high stone walls) and the view across London from there is breathtaking.
If you're interested in history you should look up the Friends of Williamson's Tunnels. The Williamson tunnels were dug under Liverpool and are currently in the process of being investigated with new sections being found. No-one really knows the reason that they were made but the history is really interesting.
Just subbed... I'm actually from Liverpool (Scouser) & by chance came up on my recommendations... Watched the vid & really enjoyed it... About the Scouse, apparently, my Dad told me that it was originally a Danish/Scandinavian, dish/stew named Scorse & was introduced by the Danish sailors....
Glad you liked Liverpool!👍🏻 Did you go to Flanagan's Apple on Mathew Street? It's a great Liverpool/Irish pub, it's built over the original pool that the city was named after (check out Carl Jungs "pool of life" dream). Years ago the toilets downstairs used to flood at high tide! Also Ye Cracke pub on Rice Street where the Beatles used to drink in the war room during their student days. There's loads to see and do here.😊
I don.t know if you've heard of Cilla Black. She was the cloakroom attendant at The Cavern until The Beatles pulled her up on stage and the rest, as they say, is history. Not only was she a great singer but also one of the UK's most loved TV presenters.
Next time you come to Liverpool, I would recommend: a ferry tour on the river Mersey, a drive up to Formby Beach and its adjourning pine forest, explore the Museum Quarter in the city centre (area around St George’s Hall), and definitely sample some of our best restaurants (for breakfast specifically, I would recommend “The Tavern” which was voted the best breakfast in the country). I could go on and on. The options are limitless and the culture is so rich and vibrant.
Yes! my city :) so much more you can do in Liverpool some great Pubs and for the best Pizza try Nightcrawler Pizza on Slater Street also visit Lark lane and Sefton Park and take a trip through the Pipe to Bebington for the best English breakfast at The Shamrock cafe
Yep, lived in Liverpool for over 20 years (and gem all her life) and I've yet to visit the Beatles museum or do the bus tour. 🤣 I graduated in the Liverpool cathedral, massive, couldn't hear a thing of the ceremony because of the reverb! Gem makes a pretty mean scouse, family recipe. Glad you enjoyed your trip to Liverpool. It's a great city.
When I was in Liverpool three Augusts ago The Beatles Story had the white piano John played in the Imagine video. Also the Musium had a John and Yoko free exabition which was very good. I also stayed at The Beatles hotel in Mathew Street called A hard days night which was great. Love The Beatles. My granny was from Liverpool but moved to Aberdeen Scotland and because I'm from Aberdeen too have visited Liverpool since I was little. Glad you got to see this great city.
Excellent vlog - I haven't been to Liverpool for many years, way before the Beatles museum was there. Very spooky but just an hour ago I watched 'Nowhere Boy' a biopic about the early life of John Lennon, it was released in 2009, and I've only just watched it. It was fascinating.

P.S. You visited the Anglican Cathedral,as I was the 1st student union rep. for the student accommodation/academic block, literally next door there!👍
So glad you enjoyed your visit to my home city!
As a Leigther there are only two city’s I would live in, Liverpool and Wellington the land of the long white cloud
Cheers have a great day
Thank you for going to Liverpool, if you go back go on the ferry across the Mersey. If your feeling adventurous you can also go to the beautiful Isle of Man by the fast ferry.
Ahh man! I would of loved to of given you a day out in our town.
An alternative tour gathering such delights as
*The Sandy beach, which is Liverpools best kept secret.
*The Most Ornate Pub Toilets in the World (The Philharmonic)
*And from the right angle 'Queen Victoria's C**k'
Among a few.
It's always an absolute heart warmer to see people come here and love the place. We appreciate it more than you'll ever know.
Our sunsets are amazing too.
Much love ya. Nice one Kidda. Cheers.
Liverpool is my favourite place ❤️
Next time do an Anfield Stadium Tour, owned by your fellow country men
If you come back to Liverpool again and you like Tudor history/Tudor houses then you must go to Speke Hall in south Liverpool. Sadly, John Lennon airport is right next door but the house and grounds are amazing (I would go there on a sunny day in summer personally).
Thank you for the suggestion!
Are you really sending people to birkenhead 😭😂
@@acs6785 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was raised in nearby Hunts Cross (Mackets lane end)
Oh my days, why are you sending people to Birkenhead 🤣🤣🤣
A proud scouser, my beautiful home ❤️
I think you missed the tiny statue of a bird at the cathedral. Pitside in front of the crypt. It's a Tracey Emin.
Lol Im from Liverpool and haven't done any of that stuff in the video. I shall have to visit the Cathedral sometime it looks great inside.
You should check out The Philharmonic pub. The most amazing architecture and decor from deep in Victorian history.
The Beatles!!!! ☮️💟💟💟💟☮️💟☮️💟
Awesome video!Thanks for sharing.❤️
Live in Liverpool. Glad you enjoyed this amazing beautiful city xx
We did! Thanks!
Glad you guys are having a great holiday and a great time in Liverpool with your UK friends comes in handy too
I grew up here. Went to school in Woolton and went to the church youth club that the Beatles first played. I live in Australia now
You guys are always welcome here 😋
I've got most the Beatles autographs except John's as he died before I was born my mom's faves was John and Paul I brought my dad a Beatles t-shirt and a yellow Submarine toy from a local charity shop a few months ago I've also got autographs of the Beatles drummer and off the guy who did the record cover of sergeant pepper
Glad you enjoyed my city
You should go up the tower of the Anglican Cathedral, it's quite the experience.
Thank you for the suggestion!
One of my favorite places on the planet. I am so glad you both are enjoying your trip .
We loved it too. Thank you!
I’ve done that magical mystery tour as well …it’s cool
It's really neat!
2 must see’s in York, Jorvik Viking Centre and the Castle Museum.
Yes! my city :) so much more you can do in Liverpool some great Pubs and for the best Pizza try Nightcrawler Pizza on Slater Street also visit Lark lane and Sefton Park and take a trip through the Pipe to Bebington for the best English breakfast at The Shamrock cafe
Thanks for the tips! Hopefully next time. 😀
@@TheMagicGeekdom hope you come back
My city, I live in Cheshire now but Liverpool seafront still blows my mind everytime I visit
My city! Xx
I am a scouser and proud
Excellent vlog - I haven't been to Liverpool for many years, way before the Beatles museum was there. Very spooky but just an hour ago I watched 'Nowhere Boy' a biopic about the early life of John Lennon, it was released in 2009, and I've only just watched it. It was fascinating.
Thank you! That is random! It's a good film, but it's been a long time since I've watched it. Might have to watch it again. Thanks!
Liverpool has changed so much in the last decade or so. Well worth another visit!
Ĺiverpool has two cathederals, theres also a unique styled catholic cathedral in the city
