@The Magic Geekdom Seeing as your in Bath about 25 miles away from you is the Birth place of Cheddar Cheese and England's deepest and most beautiful Gorge with Caves you have to check out Cheddar Gorge, and taste the traditional cave matured cheddar cheese. The history of the caves and the history of how cheddar cheese was made then matured in the caves is mind blowing
Branston pickle is not something you'd generally eat on its own, you should have tried it with the cheese! I'm surprised they were offering a Ploughman's Lunch with chips, traditionally it's eaten with fresh, crusty bread.
@@juliecobbina2024 My point is that I'm surprised chips were an "option" in the first place! We are currently in Bath at the moment and after watching your video, we have been to all the eateries that you have done and I must say The Sally Lunn house was definitely our favourite. Thank you for showing all you do, without these then we wouldn’t have known about them. Next stop is London and on my list is the cheese potato from Borough market 😋😊 Again thank you 🙏🏼 xx
Thank you for taking the time and effort to really sample such delights as our little island can offer. Inspirational viewing, too! So glad you're enjoying the UK. Peace :-)
Your mention of mango chutney reminded me of a visit to Bath years ago. One of the pubs - I forget which - made me a wholemeal bun stuffed with Stilton Cheese and mango chutney! A wonderful "sweet & sour" combination which I still love. A great variation on the theme of the classic British "cheeses & pickle roll". Thoroughly recommended!
There are also so many interesting museums to see in Bath plus the Jane Austin museum and a guided tour around the famous Assembley Rooms is a must to see how the Georgians entertained themselves. At 4pm most days you can go on a relaxing boat ride from Pultney Wier. How about bathing in warm thermal spring water on the roof top with wonderful views of the Bath skyline, in the Bath Thermae? There are also many beautiful parks to walk in and relax - The National Trust Prior park is an impressive one to visit.
I lived on the tourist bus route in Bath for many years. Saturdays and Sundays were the days when we would mess with the tourists, as our windows were right at the same level as the top deck of the bus. I won't say the things my housemates and I did, but let's just say that Japanese tourists never knew where to look, while others would just laugh. I now know how zoo animals feel.

Wife and I love your videos. We're from TX although I was born & raised in the UK. We're going in September and it will be my wife's first time there. I had to laugh when you ordered a ploughmans with chips instead of bread... then tried eating Branston on its own LOL. However, one of the big reasons we love your videos is because you guys try the foods and that's our biggest thing when we go new places.
I’m so glad you liked Bath, I was born there and live just outside, like literally 20 minutes drive away. I am biased but I do think I’m lucky to live in such a nice place ❤️
So much more to see in Bath though. You moved around the centre without walking up to the Assembly Rooms, The Royal Crescent, The Circus, so many amazing restaurants too. This gives you a flavour though. very nice
So glad you loved Bath, it's such a wonderful place. Sally Lunns are a classic and cinnamon butter is my favourite too. Bath buns are nowhere near as nice. A ploughman's is traditionally a lunch meal and eaten with chunky bread and proper large pickled onions. Homemade chutney is so much nicer than Branston pickle so it's a shame you didn't have that included. Did you sample the pump room water...it's quite an experience! 😁
My mum grew up in Bath, and I have family still there. I grew up not far so I spent a lot of time there! Still live within a hour of there! But I'm ashamed to say...even though I have Bathonian blood in me! I have never heard of the Sally Lunns bun!
I think everyone in the UK had an introduction to Branston pickle from a very early age. I can honestly think of no one who dislikes it but you are not the first person I have seen on YT who had that reaction. My go to sandwich would always be a cheese and Branston pickle sandwich. Pleased you liked Bath. It's my hometown.
Love this. I used to live in bath and it made me want to go back and visit. Techically that's not a ploughmans, but it looked delicious. A ploughmans is usually made up mainly of at least one cheese, maybe ham and/or other cold meats, pickles and crusty bread. They sometimes now come with a salad, but not usually that large, and I've never had one with chips. I had a ploughmans yesterday and it was a huge slab of baked ham, a massive chunk of Cheddar, bread and pickles, and a small salad on the side of the plate. I would consider that salad and chips. 😂 Often the tourist heavy places don't do things as authentically, which I'm sure is the same in th US. A pub out of town would be more likely to have a decent ploughmans. I had one in a rural pub in Cornwall that didn't have any gluten free bread for me so they added extra ham and cheese, and my father in law had to help me eat it all, there was so much.
aww, you guys are great, so glad everything is going good, love your advice, travel, travel now, don t wait, only problem , its going to be a valuable commodity, and wont be easy to travel.....anyhoo keep going enjoying your adventures...
Bath is beautiful but also check surrounding places as well like Bradford on Avon Is a must .or Lacock or castle Combe. So pleased you enjoyed your visit xx
Absolutely loved the extra enthusiasm after your gin cocktails..!ol glad you are enjoying our little country, you are right in tel!ing e drone to travel...it will change you forever..in a good way 😊
We love Bath and will be there in May! Anyway, I have eaten at both Sally Lunn and The Bath Bun...and the buns are about the same. We love the food at the Bath Bun restaurant, I get the Wiltshire ham and local white cheddar sandwich...which I dream about after I get back home and my daughter likes the baked potato with baked beans and cheese. Yum.
September is probably one of the better months to visit the UK (less likely to rain),hope you enjoy your visit to this fantastic little island,I'm English and I've visited 14 different countries but honestly I wouldn't live anywhere else, the countryside is beautiful, the architecture is gorgeous, the history is immense and the people (well the vast majority)are warm and friendly especially up here in the North. Stay happy and healthy and enjoy your time here on this small rock✌️
We are flying into London for a few days then getting a car and exploring southwest England including Stonehenge. Then making our way to York, then Scotland including Edinburgh. We are booked on the Jacobite train AKA Hogwarts Express!!! Then flying to Belfast, exploring Northern Ireland before driving down to Dublin for a few days before home. This is a trip of a lifetime for us and so excited. We hope all goes as plan. Good to hear less chance of rain during September, not that it would stop us.
@@RockyBobbieBuster we cannot wait. Honestly, without Great Britain there would not be a USA despite the fact we fought two wars against you guys. As a history lover, I am looking forward to seeing things older than a few hundred years.
Are you here yet? If so you have certainly picked a momentous time to visit. The eyes of the entire world are on our country this month. It will take us a while to get used to life without the Queen and with a King, which almost none of us have known. I live in the Cotswolds so I imagine you'll see some of our neck of the woods while you're here. Hope you have a great time.
Love Bath, need to go back soon. Onion Bhaji with tamarind is a wonderful thing The Branston with the Cheddar or Red Leicester tastes better than just the pickle, sweet and savoury, yum! You're right about doing things before you retire, but life does get in the way and of course, few people in the US get long enough time off work to do anything at all! You are really packing it and and I'm enjoying your videos
We live in Bristol and moving to Devon at the end of the year. We realised we had not seen Bath enough after seeing your video, so have booked an open top bus tour there now for next week, then will eat at one of the eateries you suggested. Thank you.
Hi guys, another good vlogg it makes me want to go to Bath again, I've been twice before and loved it, but soon you must travel northwards to really see the back bone of England, not the hussle&bustle of false London, check, Chester, York, Harrogate, Yorkshire dales moors, Northumberland.
Loved this. Haven’t been into Bath for a few years now - although it’s not far away. Perhaps it’s time to visit again. When I first started working in this area, I stayed in B&B and often had my evening meal in Bath - lots of great places to eat and pleasant walks around the centre of Bath afterwards. The architecture is fascinating with streets like Great Pulteney Street designed to look much like a single continuous building on each side.
"Travel Now" that's very good advice 👍 Bath is pretty close to my home but I've only been a hand full of times, ironic isn't it. Glad you enjoyed your visit and I really do think you need another vacation in the UK...... There's so much to explore, we may be a small country but the diversity is truly wonderful as you go from place to place. Come back soon !!
I must admit, that simple advice, "Travel now", really made me think. It's easy to get stuck in a rut, or put things off for another year, and then another, and so on. Before you know it, the years have passed and you start to regret what you've missed. Fantastic advice that everyone should heed if they are able to do so.
Couldn't agree more,I've traveled to 14 different countries but I wouldn't live anywhere else in the entire world, watching videos like this makes one realise what a fantastic island we are fortunate to live on.
I visited Bath two weeks ago, the weather was glorious sunshine and very warm. Did the open top bus tours and visited the Royal Crescent and other ‘must see’ places but didn’t get to visit the Roman Baths. Will definitely be going back!
Haha enjoying all your UK vids I like the slightly tipsy note at the end of this one but most of all I like your enthusiasm and willingness to try everything 🙂 i hope I'm as open minded as u guys
I live in Bristol which is next to Bath and haven’t visited in years they have made it so set up for tourists we tend to avoid it and parking and road layout made it so unfriendly to visit but glad you enjoyed its beautiful architecture
Really enjoy your videos. Not sure where your travels are taking you next but if you ever head to the cotswolds… just a tad north of bath. You should head to stow on the wold and go to a pub called the porch house. It’s got a crazy history and i believe it is the oldest pub in England. Built around 970! The food is really good too. We’ve gone a few times late at night and just before the close up we have a walk around and the staff are so nice, they will usually walk around with you and show you some cool spots inside and tell you the history.
We didn't have enough time to stop in The Cotswolds, but we definitely want to visit next time. Thank you for letting us know about that pub. We didn't know about it, so we'll have to look into it for next time. Thanks!
If you're going back to Bath I'd recommend The Chequers pub for dinner! Also, I never go without picking up some fudge at the Fudge Kitchen. You should consider going back in December too, Bath hosts an amazing Christmas Market every year...
I’m also a huge cheese lover, you really must try black sticks blue cheese, you can only get it from high end shops. It’s fantastic melted on a burger 🍔. Not as stinky as Stilton. Try marks and Spencer’s or Waitrose they sell it. 🏴
Yes- Ploughman's! :-) and you tried pickle onions. You are now partially British...Really like the way you try different things... Gin is everywhere ....enjoy but not too much...
The ploughman’s branston pickle (brown) is meant to be eaten as a dollop on the cheese. The small onions are silver skins and again meant to be eaten with bread rather than chips. But we’ll done for trying.
Jeremy and Cara, thank you for showing my country in such a positive light. If you find yourself near Wallingford, Oxfordshire my home town please visit I guarantee that you'll like it. Wallingford is where Agatha Christie lived for most of her life she wrote most of her great works here, she has an exhibit at the Wallingford Museum check it out. And If you're hungry visit the Old Post Office for a full English you won't regret it.
Bath & Wells is one of very few Anglican diocese with two cathedral churches. I notice that each of you have different styles of cutlery etiquette. Did you grow up in very different environments? It is very enjoyable to witness your joy in travel and in fresh culinary experiences. My favourite cathedral cities in England are Wells, Salisbury, Ely, Canterbury, and Chester - of the smaller cities. Hereford Cathedral is a great building (chained library, old clock, etc) in a boring city.
We use Branston pickle and piccalilli with other food both bring out the flavours of the cheese, they are not for eating on their own they are condiments . I've noticed you try alot of foods on their own that are complimentary to the main thing on your plate .😅 . Really enjoying your travels.
I'm a British born American from London, my late Mother was born in Chicago IL, I'm currently in London and my cousins from FL along with his Canadian Brother-InLaw are all coming over here in the next few days from now for my Sister's wedding in the English countryside. I have to laugh, they've been coming over here their whole lives and still think. this country is like something out of a movie/novel etc where people get married in castles and are required to wear specific clothes in order to go places etc lmao. My late Mother's Mother is British whereas my late Grandfather from the Midwest was stationed here in England during WW2 with the USAF(the base was located in central landlocked England), whereas my late Uncles were stationed down on the south coast with the USN. My Mom late settled here as a 10 yo in the late 1960's, I unfortunately lost her in 2005 but as a young Teenager I was fortunate enough to visit unique parts of this country such as Bath,Bristol, Stonehenge, Torquay, Exeter etc, it was almost 20 years ago now but I remember it all so clearly, There is still so much for you guys to see here!
The water that pours into the Roman baths first falls as rain just north of Wells where it soaks into the subterranean aquifers. From there, it takes about 10,000 years to get warmed up and pushed up to the Bath baths.
If you ever come back to Bath you should bring a swimming costume and set aside £80 for 2 tickets to the Thermae Bath Spa Cross Bath. It's a rooftop pool where you can swim in the naturally heated mineral waters of roman times.
I think I read somewhere that the statues are not of the Roman era, but were put up by the Victorians? Bath was called Aquae Sulis by the Romans. Great series Guys, keep up the quality output.
I lived in Bath from 1992 to 2011. Think I only went to Sally Lunn's once in all that time. Didn't think the buns were all that special for the price. Apart from the Raven, the other places you visited are all new to me. New cafes, bars and restaurants are popping up all the time and a lot has changed in the last 11 years.
Ahhh...you made it to Lynn's buns. Even made it to the basement shop! That place rocks...gotta get the sweet bun with a jar of cinnamon butter. Penhaligon's perfumery and Paxton and Whitfield cheese shop are worth a visit too.
You have got to try Fidel’s Bar especially if you like rum! Amazing bar staff. Definitely recommend grabbing a seat by the bar and work through their cocktail list! Love the Coconut Kiss! We now have it in our bar!

Thank you for the info! We'll have to find a proper Ploughman's next time.
I agree, I wouldn't have called that a ploughman's.
I loved this video! the Buns looked soooo good! Especially the salmon one. One day I will get back to the UK and see things properly :)
They were both excellent. Hope you get to take a proper trip back to the UK. 😃
aww, you guys are great, so glad everything is going good, love your advice, travel, travel now, don t wait, only problem , its going to be a valuable commodity, and wont be easy to travel.....anyhoo keep going enjoying your adventures...
Thanks so much! 😊 That's a good point.
Bath is beautiful but also check surrounding places as well like Bradford on Avon Is a must .or Lacock or castle Combe. So pleased you enjoyed your visit xx
Absolutely loved the extra enthusiasm after your gin cocktails..!ol glad you are enjoying our little country, you are right in tel!ing e drone to travel...it will change you forever..in a good way 😊
Definitely one of the best cities in England
We agree!
Yum.
We need to head back to Bath it's such a lovely place. The ham and cheddar sandwich sounds wonderful!
Just found you and I love love love your channel. Going to London in October 24
OMG! We are going to The UK in September and including Bath in our itinerary. Thank you for your video, it is giving us ideas.
Oh nice! Hope you have a great time! What other places are on your itinerary?
Happy that you enjoyed our city
We did! Thanks
Love Bath, need to go back soon.
Onion Bhaji with tamarind is a wonderful thing
The Branston with the Cheddar or Red Leicester tastes better than just the pickle, sweet and savoury, yum!
You're right about doing things before you retire, but life does get in the way and of course, few people in the US get long enough time off work to do anything at all!
You are really packing it and and I'm enjoying your videos
Sounds great!
We live in Bristol and moving to Devon at the end of the year. We realised we had not seen Bath enough after seeing your video, so have booked an open top bus tour there now for next week, then will eat at one of the eateries you suggested. Thank you.
Love that you went Chai Walla. Anytime I've visited Bath I have to stop there, it's so good x
Glad you enjoyed Bath! One of my favourite towns. Shame about the rain but that's England for you! :D
It ended up barely rainy. Overall we had great luck with the weather.
Bath is an amazing city, love the County of Somerset as well its beautiful! Cheddar Gorge, Dunster etc.
So glad you've enjoyed Bath, I live just outside and always a nice old city to visit
MY home town! well done guys!
Hurrah! Bath lovely. Just down the road from where I am. Happy holidays
Great vlog - Bath is so beautiful
You should! Sounds like you've had a lovely time in the past.
Thank you! We hope to visit again soon.
I visited Bath two weeks ago, the weather was glorious sunshine and very warm. Did the open top bus tours and visited the Royal Crescent and other ‘must see’ places but didn’t get to visit the Roman Baths. Will definitely be going back!
Bath is amazing.
We thought so too!
Haha enjoying all your UK vids I like the slightly tipsy note at the end of this one but most of all I like your enthusiasm and willingness to try everything 🙂 i hope I'm as open minded as u guys
Great video as always 👌🇬🇧
Thank you!
Thank you for the suggestion!
Yes- Ploughman's! :-) and you tried pickle onions. You are now partially British...Really like the way you try different things...
Gin is everywhere ....enjoy but not too much...
Lol thanks!
The ploughman’s branston pickle (brown) is meant to be eaten as a dollop on the cheese. The small onions are silver skins and again meant to be eaten with bread rather than chips. But we’ll done for trying.
Bath is such a beautiful city.
love Bath grow up near here in a town called Corsham wilts hope you had a great time
Oh nice! We did have a great time. Thanks!
Aw - Americans are so sweet. Watching them struggle with their knives and forks is adorable(!) x
Aw, do you get a thrill out of leaving condescending, (stupid) comments?
Bath & Wells is one of very few Anglican diocese with two cathedral churches. I notice that each of you have different styles of cutlery etiquette. Did you grow up in very different environments? It is very enjoyable to witness your joy in travel and in fresh culinary experiences. My favourite cathedral cities in England are Wells, Salisbury, Ely, Canterbury, and Chester - of the smaller cities. Hereford Cathedral is a great building (chained library, old clock, etc) in a boring city.
Surely it is Bath Abbey and Wells Cathedral?
WOW I didn't know that,that's really interesting,stay happy and healthy ✌️
Oh wow interesting!
Typical British plumbing, it's the same in my house.
If you ever come back to Bath you should bring a swimming costume and set aside £80 for 2 tickets to the Thermae Bath Spa Cross Bath. It's a rooftop pool where you can swim in the naturally heated mineral waters of roman times.
Great video about a beautiful city 😊
Thanks!
Good choice on going for a pie 🥧 at the Raven. Bath is my home town.
I think I read somewhere that the statues are not of the Roman era, but were put up by the Victorians? Bath was called Aquae Sulis by the Romans. Great series Guys, keep up the quality output.
Yes, I think that's true. Thanks!
Love the ending of the video 😂 the Gin was taking effect ❤️
I lived in Bath from 1992 to 2011. Think I only went to Sally Lunn's once in all that time. Didn't think the buns were all that special for the price. Apart from the Raven, the other places you visited are all new to me. New cafes, bars and restaurants are popping up all the time and a lot has changed in the last 11 years.
Bath is such a lovely city. Been many times
It's certainly beautiful!
Born in Bath and grew up 30 mins away not been to Sally Lunns in years though! Good memories there.
Oh nice!
Straight-lining branston pickle is brave 😅
She is generally pretty brave.
Well thanks to your video my wife and I are going to Bath on Monday ( 25th) for 3 days.
