Recommend Saltaire in West Yorkshire, it’s a World Heritage site and model village. Specifically recommend: Guided tour of the village, Salts Mill, Roberts Park, River Walk, Shipley Glen Tramway, Shipley Glen, lots of places to eat and drink, for example SALT Brewery. It is also a film location for many movies and TV programmes.
As someone from York, and who works in the city centre it’s awesome to see it from a tourists point of view. It’s so easy to take it for granted and watching this has made me feel really lucky to live here ☺️
York is an amazing city. The National Railway Museum is a whole day out itself. Then there's the Jorvik Viking centre, boat trips on the river, the Shambles, the Minster... You could spend a week there.
Good point. I spent so long in the Railway Museum I had no time to see what else York has to offer. I remember thinking to myself how happy I'd be living in York. It truly is a beautiful city, and the residents are very friendly.
Was in York in August 2005 ,A Stunning city with a lot of history 🇺🇲❤️🇬🇧Enjoy the Shambles along with the Jorvik Centre is a must see to the Walls along with the Minster that needs seeing inside ,Just beautiful ❤️ The Cake shops are stunning with their Treats with afternoon Tea ☕🥧🍰,Pleased to see both of you from Stateside enjoying York's hidden treasures ,A bus tour is a must ,If a both of you are fans of trains ,See the National Railway museum to a boat tour on the River Ouse🇺🇲❤️🇬🇧Did all this in 2005 ❤️❤️❤️❤️love this City 🥰😘😍

The next time you're in York you should definitely do one of the night-time ghost walk tours. A very fun and interactive way of learning about some of the history, myths and legends of the city.
As a York resident, I have to warn that they may be entertaining, but they are a poor way to learn the history. They are led by actors, and performing a script; they will admit that it necessarily has to be largely fictional or at least embellished. For those interested in the actual history of York though there are plenty of ways to explore it including The Jorvik Centre, Yorkshire Museum, Castle Museum Barley Hall, Fairfax House and many others.
The wife and I spent 4 days in York last month and fell in love with it. We stayed at an outstanding little B&B ( Bishop and Bison ) booked through our wonderful tour company (McKinlay Kidd) and enjoyed our entire stay. We loved the old town and its shops and pubs. The minster is treasure not to be missed. The Yorkshire Dales is so beautiful you have to keep telling yourself that it is actually real.
I remember going on a school trip to York Minster in middle school. We all found it a bore. Now I’m older I really do appreciate the architecture and the history x
Love the way you guys are so open minded and up for trying everything and anything in Britain! We take our history and our character too much for granted…so it’s great to watch you appreciate everything. Hope you had an absolute blast here!

Ah, my home, born and grew up in York, my eldest Daughter went to Uni and they had their graduation ceremony in York Minster, apparently if you graduate at YM you can marry there too but there is a 20yr waiting list! Remember watching the YM on fire from across the City from my bedroom window in 1984, it was heart breaking and I cried and cried willing them to put it out and save York's most beautiful, historic jewel. A tip for anyone visiting York for the first time, to get to the Minster go down High Petergate (from Bootham Bar) when you get close to the end of High Petergate, stop, close your eyes then look up, takes your breath away.
Being a Yorkshire girl, I loved watching you both explore York and it was beautiful hearing you speak so warmly about this amazing city. I'm excited that you will be visiting Whitby next!! It is by far one of my favourite places in the whole of Yorkshire!! Can't wait to hear your thoughts and reflections. Remember to look out for fossils if you venture onto the beach. Have fun 😀
I went to Uni in York in the late 90s and loved it so much I stayed there for a few years. Some friends took me back as a surprise for my 40th and it didn't feel the same sadly. Homeless people, run down areas, graffiti, and a lot more commercialisation. Still nicer than most places though and maybe I was more oblivious to the negatives when I was younger and wide eyed. Nice to watch a tour guys, glad you liked it.
Given you just described a better version of York in the late 90s than the reality, you must have either been doing some incredible drugs, or just have been socially unaware. By 2000, York was one of the homeless capitols in the UK - graffiti was everywhere as the old decrepit buildings were yet to be torn down and replaced and it was always highly commercially focused.
I lived there for 10 months with my Dad during 2010 and it really is a LOVELY city STEEPED in history and I would implore anyone to visit the place even just for a day!
Thank you for appreciating our history and culture. The UK is very old. You should try Winchester Cathedral in Hampshire, my home county. The oldest Cathedral in England.
York is lovely, you should try Lincoln as well another time, it has a castle with one of the four last copies of the Magna Carta and a victorian prison in the grounds and a cathedral a few hundred yards away.
They need a couple more days to explore the Castle Museum, which also houses Yorks old Prison. Then, the Yorvik Viking Centre which is amazing. We lived there for several years and really loved it
I’m from the UK and live in a more rural area but if there was just one city I could choose to live in it would be York. It just feels like home whenever I’m lucky enough to visit. I love it there!
If you're in the UK go and look at Wales, Port Merrion is beautiful, head north and look at Scotland, there are so many beautiful places in the UK, watched your vid on Liverpool, my home town.
You walked by it in The Shambles there is a tiny chapel dedicated to our Saint Margaret Clitherow , she lived in The Shambles and was put to death by Elizabeth The First for her Catholic beliefs . It’s the Golden Fleece that’s the most haunted pub . York is called the Chocolate City the home to two famous factories Rowntrees and Terrys , Rowntrees now unfortunately Nestle makes 4 million Kit Kats a day ! Our history goes back over 2000 years and gave its name to New York , I love my city so glad you enjoyed
Absolutely love York, I'm from Newcastle but visit quite often as I collect ghosts from the York ghost merchants! If it was in April you visited I believe it was a couple of my friends getting engaged there! If you go again you should definitely visit the Golden Fleece (another most haunted pub!) And would definitely recommend the York Castle museum :)
Walking the city walls is a fantastic thing to do, about 3 miles and gives a different perspective of the city, a cruise on the river ouse the merchant adventurers hall the jorvik centre the shambles , the castle museum , cliffords tower this city has got the lot !
I love this amazing York has my heart so much so I have found a job there Starting in August just waiting on my flat being ready for me to move in I am so excited 😁
So glad you got to visit York, as a Yorkshire lass I'm biased but it really is a fantastic city, hope you got to see a little bit more of our beautiful county on your travels.
You did York, I'm glad. Did you notice all the cats on the walls and window ledges, this is part of the york cat trail (google it) there's a ghost cat, a cat with an eyepatch, a few on the roof, pretty cool. I loved walking the city walls and the viking museum which was interested and has a cool ride around the museum. Glasgow cathedral is beautiful too.
I’m from Beverley, the historic market town about 30 or so miles east of York. We also have a Minster here. Beverley is nearer the city of Kingston upon Hull, or just Hull!. The river Humber is also right here and of course the huge Humber bridge. I love York and I’m planning on going there again soon. Love the Shambles, Yorvik Viking centre, Castle museum, The national railway museum. Have you visited Beverley?. Love your video, thanks for sharing. :)
I've lived in York for the past year and the roots of the city quickly found their way into my heart. Interesting to note that there was a Norman minster or church built aorund 1086, only about 20 years after the Norman conquest, and the current minster is built upon its foundations - hence the wide nave of the minster, as you commented on!
York is my favourite City in the world. I love its history - particularly the Viking and the Medieval history . I’m so glad that you enjoyed it too. Over the years it has become too touristy I guess and October/November visits are the best time to visit I feel. The history of The Shambles can bring, into sharp focus, what a gross and vile place that it once was…the hooks which you saw on many of the building attest to it’s real history! I hope you managed to do a nighttime “ghost walk” …there the true magic of York comes truly alive. Happy Travels both of you XXX
We love York. York, the North Yorkshire Dales and Moors, The Lake District are our favourite places. You mentioned the Cat Trail. It's a trail (the maps are available at the Cat Gallery, a super shop fir cat enthuiasts!), whereby you can wander through the city, finding the cats (not real ones!) On buildings throughout. Great way to see more of the city, too. Weirdly, we still haven't done it! York Minster is fantastic. You should check out the one in Ripon, too. Smaller, but equally beautiful, and eight humorous little touches everywhere.
You must visit Chatsworth house in the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District with the nearby Town of Bakewell, famous for its Tarts and Puddings. Also the nearby Town of Chesterfield with its famous Crooked spire for you to climb. Lincoln is another great historical City with Cathedral. So nice to see you enjoying your journeys in the UK.
York is lovely but I love Chester (in Cheshire) as a Roman City, with all the medieval buildings, cathedral, the River, the ruins and the Roman walls. It’s a beautiful City.
York is such a nice city - although I’ve only been a handful of times, usually to visit the railway museum. On one occasion I found a food festival going on too, which was rather nice.
It's such a beautiful city! I've visited a lot through the years because it was a train ride away and was a good day out. My hubby proposed there 5 years ago and we went again for our first anniversary. Some of those shops are new too, the little ghost shop and the fudge shop are definitely new so you've given me a reason to go back 😊 There's a little micro bar on the shambles called Valhalla its one of our favourite places to visit, it's a shame you never got to go but it is really niche, you wouldn't know it was there by just walking past.
I wasn't in that haunted pub, but when I spent a week there a few years ago, I went to the Golden Fleece a few times. It really is a fantastic city to visit.
There's so much more to visit in York, there's The National Railway Museum, The Yorvik Centre, and The Castle Museum ( my favourite ), also boat trips on the river.
Did you really skip the celler of York minster? That's the really interesting parts of the minster, like a fantastic museum down there of it's history, and the old roman parts of it, too bad if you missed it. But you did at least go up the tower, I didn't when I was there, so too bad I skipped on that. I can also recommend going up the city walls, really lovely 😊
If you are continuing to head north you should visit the lake district and in particular Windermere where there is a pub called the hole in the wall which Charles Dickens visited often. Love watching your vlogs.
My uncle Buddy from the USA visited the Abbey in Whitby when he visited in the 80s. I drove them over to Scarborough because that's where they lived in the USA. Had the compulsory fish and chips and went to Whitby Abbey. He was taking photos of it with tears rolling down his face he said it would be with him the rest of his day's. We drove on and got to park as near to the Minster in York. We went inside the choir were singing he sat and listened. Someone from the Minster saw him and offered to show him round and invited him to stay for the service. He never forgot either visit bought a painting of both had them in his bedroom when he died 10 years later saying that is where his faith had been rescued. Funny really he was Catholic but never forgot these two places.
That is a lovely story and that it had such a profound impact on your uncle visiting these places which had resonance with the places that he had left back in the states. Also don’t forget in faith terms both Whitby Abbey and York Minster when they were built were for the worship of the Catholic faith. In terms of the former it would have survived to this day if Henry VIII had not split from Rome.
Sounds like you really did have a proper pub experience. Just losing yourself in a conversation with strangers over a few pints is what the pub is really about. Well done for visiting the true culture of the UK and not just London.
the reason they have spirtal staircases like that is the person standing above can attack with their right arm with a sword or spear lunging downwards, people coming up the stairs their right hand is blocked by the wall and can only defend with their left arm, back in them times everyone was right handed, quite an interesting method to stop attackers.
Enjoy Yorkshire. I was born and grew up in York. Now live in Selby. I doubt that is on your itinerary but we do have an Abbey with a connection to the US flag.
Fudge Kitchen really is the best fudge ever. And you can freeze it which completely justifies buying lots of flavours. I cannot comment on whether it tastes as good when you defrost it as erm…I didn’t leave it long enough to need freezing 😁
Betty’s tea shop! Famous for their fat rascals. The cake recipe’s on line. A friend made me two as a treat just before I went into hospital. Unfortunately, he ran out of glacé cherries during covid lockdown so instead of two cherries as usual, there was only one on the top of the two cakes he gave me. I opened up the bag. I was a bit surprised at the sight, so I asked him, “Did you really mean to give a woman about to undergo breast surgery two cakes with one big red cherry on top?” Now they’re known as nipple cakes.
Really pleased that you both fell in love with my historic and breathtakingly beautiful County Town, York - the capital of 'God's own County' - and had a brilliant time there. Looking forward to your vlog on Whitby and I hope you got yourselves some Whitby Jet.

Lovely video guys - and York is my home city 🥰 so much more to see - fossgate is amazing as is a walk around the walls and visit to Cliffords Tower, but for one day you certainly saw and experienced a lot. I believe The Golden Fleece is actually the most haunted pub in York and is on Pavement at the far end of Shambles.

Thank you for appreciating our history and culture. The UK is very old. You should try Winchester Cathedral in Hampshire, my home county. The oldest Cathedral in England.
I love Winchester Cathederal. I used to enjoy going to evening song
Ah your just down the road from me! Hope you’ve enjoyed touring round York and Whitby. I recommend going to Goathland
York is amazing.
I live in York and it's so nice to see it through your eyes as you take it for granted when you live somewhere. It's a great city to be in.
If you're in the UK go and look at Wales, Port Merrion is beautiful, head north and look at Scotland, there are so many beautiful places in the UK, watched your vid on Liverpool, my home town.
This lady is so poitive and jolly,an ideal person to go on holiday with.
Terry's was closed by Kraft in 2005. Now converted into flats.
Hidden around York are cats. One is a sculpture sat on a solicitors window sill, another 2d cat walking across the apex of a roof.
Walking the city walls is a fantastic thing to do, about 3 miles and gives a different perspective of the city, a cruise on the river ouse the merchant adventurers hall the jorvik centre the shambles , the castle museum , cliffords tower this city has got the lot !
Found y9u today. Lovely very informative videos.
Thank you!
I love this amazing York has my heart so much so I have found a job there Starting in August just waiting on my flat being ready for me to move in I am so excited 😁
Cracking little City so much History & things to see & do 👌
So glad you got to visit York, as a Yorkshire lass I'm biased but it really is a fantastic city, hope you got to see a little bit more of our beautiful county on your travels.
as a Lancashire LAD.. i feel like a traitor (LOL) saying i love york
In your thumbnail your just outside of the Revolution game studio, it's the black sign. They are famous for the Broken Sword series.
Really fun content and enthusiasm. Another word that we say differently = Herb where we annunciate the H and you say Erb.
You are going to miss all this when you go home but you have lovely memories to look back on until you return again.
I ❤ York - it’s wicked 🤗 And luckily, it’s only down the road - yay 😁🍻
I’m from Beverley, the historic market town about 30 or so miles east of York. We also have a Minster here. Beverley is nearer the city of Kingston upon Hull, or just Hull!. The river Humber is also right here and of course the huge Humber bridge. I love York and I’m planning on going there again soon. Love the Shambles, Yorvik Viking centre, Castle museum, The national railway museum. Have you visited Beverley?. Love your video, thanks for sharing. :)
Oh nice! We are planning to spend more time in Yorkshire this year, so hopefully we can see Beverey or Kingston upon Hull.
Snap!
Is there a specific ghost walk you recommend?
Love york. Love the smiths too. Fan from manchester uk. 😀😀🇬🇧🇬🇧
I absolutely love your uk travelogue. My favourite places, York and next Whitby ( fish & Chips to die for) 🇬🇧
Thank you!
York is lovely but I love Chester (in Cheshire) as a Roman City, with all the medieval buildings, cathedral, the River, the ruins and the Roman walls. It’s a beautiful City.
been a student in both, york has older buildings. York tends to be more sunny. esp in winter.
Chester
York was founded by the Romans as well. Built on top of a Fort built by the VIIII Legion. Chester was base for the XX Legion for over 200 years.
Some of those shops are new too, the little ghost shop and the fudge shop are definitely new so you've given me a reason to go back 😊
There's a little micro bar on the shambles called Valhalla its one of our favourite places to visit, it's a shame you never got to go but it is really niche, you wouldn't know it was there by just walking past.
I'm terrified if I ever go to England I won't ever leave.
🥰😆🏴🤘🏼
I wasn't in that haunted pub, but when I spent a week there a few years ago, I went to the Golden Fleece a few times.
It really is a fantastic city to visit.
There's so much more to visit in York, there's The National Railway Museum, The Yorvik Centre, and The Castle Museum ( my favourite ), also boat trips on the river.
We'd love to come back and spend a few days in York. It was one of our favorite cities in the UK.
I am surprised not more comments suggesting The National Railway Museum as a unique in not just the UK but the world.
Was there in 2019 and absolutely loved York, thankyou!
If you are continuing to head north you should visit the lake district and in particular Windermere where there is a pub called the hole in the wall which Charles Dickens visited often. Love watching your vlogs.
If you're heading over to Whitby, I recommend you go up to the Abbey at night (if the weathers good). It's atmospheric and absolutely stunning.
Im too jealous to continue watching. I've wanted to see Europe for 20 yrs. 😭😭😭
Do you guys need a camerawoman???
Sounds like you really did have a proper pub experience. Just losing yourself in a conversation with strangers over a few pints is what the pub is really about. Well done for visiting the true culture of the UK and not just London.
the reason they have spirtal staircases like that is the person standing above can attack with their right arm with a sword or spear lunging downwards, people coming up the stairs their right hand is blocked by the wall and can only defend with their left arm, back in them times everyone was right handed, quite an interesting method to stop attackers.
Growing up here, all these buildings have been the norm for me haha. Nice to see you enjoyed yourselves.
I'm loving you r tour of England, you are both great presenters. Much more please I am addicted to these reaction vlogs
Enjoy Yorkshire. I was born and grew up in York. Now live in Selby. I doubt that is on your itinerary but we do have an Abbey with a connection to the US flag.
York is my favourite city in the UK. I lived there for 3 years while at university it is so pretty.
If you're heading north you should visit the lake district, it's easily my favourite place in the country..
I am soon very excited 😊 What's your favorite part of the LD?
Can't wait for your Whitby trip,my favourite town in the UK and fish and chips at "the MAGPIE" are unbelievable, stay happy and healthy ✌️
So true we luv York it’s stunning city
Love the shirt the smiths lead by Morrissey n they were came from Manchester ❤
if i go to york i have to go to the railway museum
I was in York a few weeks ago love that city
I was in York this past Spring and The Golden Fleece which is a couple doors down from Inn is supposed to be the most haunted pub in York. ha ha
I think we learned that after. 😂 We enjoyed the one we visited non the less and it's still supposed to be haunted as well.
Really loved Betty’s , really disliked Fat Rascals, (( mixed peel ) !,,,,
Did you go into the Under Croft where the Roman remains were found in the minster? Or the Viking museum
Enjoying it
I absolutely love York, it's cathedral is almost as good as Lincoln's.
They are both beautiful cathedrals.
Really pleased that you both fell in love with my historic and breathtakingly beautiful County Town, York - the capital of 'God's own County' - and had a brilliant time there. Looking forward to your vlog on Whitby and I hope you got yourselves some Whitby Jet.
York is the county town, leeds is the capital for gdp population etc now dye yer hair and do one
Just binge watched sooo many of your videos the last couple of days, im sad ive got to the end! Excited for more videos of your adventures. You guys are so cool and super genuine and cute!
Love your trips around England.
Thank you for watching!
