    Nice to see a 5-speed still on the road. I had two V6 SHO's in the early 2000's. Never did mess with the exhaust, for me it was all about the intake noise. Yank the silencer out from behind the fender and the thing absolutely roared when the secondaries opened up. Such an amazing sound and now that everything new has tiny turbo 4 cylinder engines that sound like garbage, it makes me miss the days of high revving NA V6 engines.

      I agree, although I love the sound of inline 6 more.

      See as an owner of a 95 mtx sho, you should mess with the exhaust.The intake side takes in plenty enough air. The exhaust side is the problem, The cat and y pipe coming out of the engine and the stock mufflers are very restricted.These Shos need to sound like a angry hornet to make full power.Another thing, These SHO s dont require a dual exhaust, A single outlet is perfectly fine. They don't produce enough power to need the dual exhaust. my 95 is set up with a Magnaflow y pipe with cats going to a Shosource intermediate pipe with a resonator than into a Stock Taurus 3.8 liter pipe back to the muffler to use All the factory hangers and to ensure a good fit than into a straight through glass pack into a angled tip at the back, it looks like a standard basic Taurus but fully flows and is only loud when you floor it. Perfect Sleeper!

    I had one…I would shift mine well past 8k…your real power comes in after 7k…these cars have long legs and if you carry third gear out you’re in triple digits already. I hate my fuel cutoff tuned to 8700, my shift was 8-8500k. Also, get the front and rear strut tower braces, weld subframe connectors, bigger sway bars and better brakes, on light rims with good tires, good suspension and watch how fantastic these cars handle

      @Scott Dove For the automatics yea. 7.5 was pretty normal. The 5-speed cars were much faster. I'd put my money on a V8 'Stang for the day to 60 due to it's traction and tq advantage, and the SHO didn't like the kinds of abusive launches that got the really good numbers. The front wheel drive differential of a Taurus is a far cry from an 8.8 Ford rear end. Once rolling past that 60mph though, a 5-speed SHO could catch up to an early 90's 'stang, and sometimes even pull ahead by the quarter if it had a real good driver. Those 302's and early 4.6's just ran out of hp up top, where the SHO loved to make power between 5 and 7 grand.

    I wonder who has my SHO these days... Red 95... Had a black cowl induction hood, blue Tokico shocks, shaved fuel door and relocated to the rear behind the plate, custom interior combining both black and tan interior trim pieces, pinned rear windows, Jegster toggle ignition system, racing seats and mismatched harnesses... Simpson harness on the drivers side and a knock off on the passenger side... I miss it...

    V6 Yamaha paired with a manual transmission? Wonderful combo, though i dont know why a domestic car has the specifications of a Japanese car, lol

      Engine was planned for a rear engine car that was eventually cancelled (the GN34)... but Yamaha already had some engines made... Taurus was the "Best selling car in America!" at the time so they crammed them in up front and sideways. Made for an interesting car that could keep up with corvettes of the same era

      @@ragingbull5883I'd have to see a dyno graph of this engine to be certain on that.
      Generally, shifting slightly past the peak of the power band is fine. Often the engine would "land" on a higher point of the power/ torque band, as opposed to shifting earlier.
      Typically, power bands don't drop much after the peak.

      @@ragingbull5883Ford was worried about the accessories wearing out and the fact that the auto trans couldnt rev that high…I use to shift mine 8k plus all day. And they pull way harder up top with some timing, and a cai, these things pull hard through third and 4th gear.

    0 to 60 for these old 3.2's was normally around 9 seconds stock and here, you got to 60 in about a full 8 which is darn good,,,,...man, these things sound vicious with the 7300k rpm which is pretty insane ...sounds practically like a 3.0 found in the 05-08 Mazda 6's...pretty wild how simply increasing the vehicles shift points, and turnover rate really changes the sound entirely....you'll notice the same effects with mere pedal boosters aswell..

      @@boomer3899 well, the 3.2 is a dohc while the vulcan engines were mere pushrods... we could assume that Ford did utilize alot of the dynamics from the older 3.2's and used them as a blueprint for the one's used in the 03-07 Tauruses...the 3.0 dohc's were pretty preppy ..mines had a 3 inch dc exhaust, throttle booster, cat delete, custom intake, and a resonator delete...i had two Tauruses at age 18, one was a Vulcan 3.0 pushrod, and the other a dohc duratec.....🤣..my duratec could hit 60 in just 5.8 seconds on a cold day with the mods i had but my vulcan was too slow to take on the highway...once i started getting bullied in traffic by salavage title civics, i just let the ole vulcan sit in the yard as a spare...man i hated that thang...

      @@notimezforgames1465 5.8 to 60? My Lincoln LS 3.0 Duratec Goes to 60 in low 9s it only weighs 3600, + me 136 and its only got 48k miles. Maybe its because its RWD with awful gearing. 1st goes to 44 MPH and second is too short 57 MPH. 2 shifts required to hit 60, its only mid 10 second to 60 in third gear ( no gear chance required). I might have to slap a turbo on this thing even ford has done it with the 3.5-3.7 Eco boost which is very similar even though they changed the bolt pattern and they use the same design of pistons and those cast fracture split rods which seem to hande the 300 or so power they make just fine. The biggest roadblock here is tuning

    • @OnTheRocks71
      @OnTheRocks71 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pumpshotty9875 I honestly don't see how a 3.0 duratec Taurus with an ax4 auto could hit 60 in under 6 seconds without forced induction and a built transmission. Neither my 93 or 95 SHO, nor my 98 SHO could get anywhere near that. The auto cars were more 7-7.5 seconds to 60.
