I worked for the original Hartwell Railway before Bennie Ray bought it in 1990. We had two GE 44 Tonners, a SW-1, and a 2-6-2 steam locomotive used briefly in the excursion trains. Was a good experience working for that little line. You folks don't know what you missed seeing all that back then...
@@RailVision Sadly, she was sold to a group in Kentucky and now it sits rusting outdoors on display near a zoo last time I heard. Was very sad to see it leave Hartwell...
I love about 5 miles from this line but have never seen them operate. I did personally know Bennie Ray Anderson and know he loved his little railroad. Wish they had the money to repaint all their locomotives back to their heritage road colors. He used to have a Chessie GP9. Not sure what happened to it.
@@RailVision Could be. I’ll see next time I’m over there. The last time I saw it I was with Bennie Ray near Athens. It was parked in an industrial siding. I was working for a road contractor and we had to pave through a crossing. Bennie Ray told me to pave over the tracks and he would cut the flangeways with a locomotive while it was hot. He used his former IC unit to do it. Not even sure what model it was. GP21 or something maybe. It worked.

If I remember the GP9 is near the end of the line in Hartwell, GA. I never did go and check for myself though because I forgot to look for it.

@@RailVisionThey have an SD7 on the Hartwell branch. The Chessie GP9 is in an overgrown siding in Athens.
