Adventure Time’s new series Fionna and Cake is FINALLY here! Over the next 5 weeks you’re in store for some of the craziest episodes you’ve ever seen from the Adventure Time franchise and we’ll be breaking all 10 episodes down every step of the way! To me this series feels like Adventure Time reaching its final form - still embracing the surrealness but using that surrealness to lean more into the existential themes than ever before. And where's a better place to start our coverage than the theme song? Giving us a peek into the lives of Fionna Campbell, Cake the Cat, an older Finn the Human, Simon Petrikov aka Ice King, Prismo the Wishmaster and all of the insanity that's about to follow them!

How ironic is it that Simon Petrikov, an antiqologist, became a living antique himself.
I'm an anthropologist, and this has literally been my goal since I was 9.
Simon seems to have retained the immortality of the ice crown despite no longer having it. Idk if betty actually had sumn to do with it. When she wished to keep Simon safe I assumed that meant being able to make Golb return to whatever realm she'd dragged him out of but maybe that wish gave Simon immortality
@tanandalynch9441 Simon doesn't have immortality, he was just set back to normal inside golb. He's noticeably older in this show, since he's just a normal dude now

It’s very possible Fionna and Cake’s world was affected by Ice King going back to being Simon. Since he’s no longer part of the madness, the world is fused with his memories of the 20th century, and Fionna’s wish for the world to be more magic stems from Simon’s wishes that he maybe wants to be blinded by being Ice King again

The fact that Ice King at first was just a typical princess stealing villain to a returned to normal historian who is dealing with grief and depression after everything has happened and has become the main focus of the whole series is so unreal.
Actually, I think that the tree shown in 6:22 is from the present time in episode 2 of Fionna and Cake while the tree shown in 6:43 is actually the Sherly and Beth era, as the background and dull pallet matches that of when the two climbed the tree to receive the sword

Wait, I just realized something, the reason why the Betty statue got renovated a while ago is because of the events that happened in Come Along With Me, causing the universe to take the literal distinction of Simon vs The Ice King, turning the universe into an almost (because of the hints that pop up) place with the only thing that the citizens remember is this statue (still figuring that out maybe it's because the statue originally is golb and that's why it changed?).
TLDR; When Simon reverted Fionna's world reverted into a 20th's century world just like he did.
I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but the jacket fionna is wearing in the desert scene looks almost exactly like Martin's jacket when he pretended to have one arm
No way, it's probably that when Fionna went into Gizmo's world, and she somehow stumbled upon Martin (the actual martin since you know, he got transported to an alternative life) or just THEY stumbled upon him while they're entering through other universes

Makes sense to me that Fionna's world is linked to Simon and Ice King with the perspective that Multiversus are not only branched off by what-ifs and alternate choices, but also by another person's dreams and imagination. When as Ice King, his inspiration for Fionna led to magical dreams because it was influenced by both the crown's magic and the land of Ooo itself. When separated from the crown's magic, Simon struggles to adapt to the new present and future, stuck lingering on the past and lost time (probably represented by the Cheers video always playing). His current mindset on the past probably altered the previous magical Fionna's world to a more normalcy one as a result as he tries to remember the world before the Great War.
This was exactly what I was thinking!!
The Ice King's imagination was more magical and adventurous writing Fiona and Cake and it made Fiona's Universe.
But since the Ice King is gone and it's just depressed Simon it got altered or branched off to be this Universe where it's isnt field with magic, adventures and excitement!
Maybe Fionna will meat that version of her.
6:46 this is almost definitely 1000 years into the future, between the muted color pallette and the fact that the scene before it focused on the fern tree it's incredibly likely that we'll see this and the likely descent into madness that the ice thing takes
This is an exact shot from the final song sequence it’s where shermy and Beth get to the tree and shermy points up telling Beth that they gotta climb it
8:53 Fionna's Jacket here bears a striking resemblance to Martin's jacket when he visited Finn back in like Season 6.
These 2 episodes were so good, reminds me of watching adventure time for the first time back in elementary school, what a flash back.

Absolutely, talk about emotional, seeing Finn in episode 2 almost brought a tear. What a overwhelming emotion.
it's so great that with fionna and finn being adults, it accompanies us who grew up with adventure time and now are adults too
I had a dopamine, emotional rush when adult Finn appeared, its like a mix of between seeing and old friend, and proud as a parent seeing him so grown physical and mentally and as a badass hero
One thing you missed at the end of the intro is, when Fiona and Cake are running out of Prismo's time room, Cake shifts into multiple different forms and one of them is Jake! Also you really misremembered how the Fern Tree and Ooo is supposed to look 1000+ years later, the one you kept showing is at best 10-20 years after it was planted while the one the intro shows after glitching is the one from 1000 years later.

Ok so the shot of the tree if you go look at the end of the very last episode of adventure you can see at the end shermy and Beth start climbing the tree and it’s the same tree that we see in the opening sooooo that means we are gonna see at least a peak into the future

Like how Cheers is a call back to an older episode when Simon was singing it to himself while trying to survive with a young Marcelene. (might also reffer to how the show is like being back to the friends and other that knows you)
I love the first episodes so much! It brings back so much nostalgia and even more insight to a story that I thought had ended! I was not expecting to see our Ooo at all, let alone Finn!
It’s such a deeply poignant and melancholic song masked with a cheerful cadence. It’s also very, very, very relatable. I love this series so much.

@@Ortrun I commented on a different video uploaded by a different channel using the exact same statement and it received a lot of likes. I assume this person copied it to farm likes quickly. Unfortunately, the video had comments locked after it was marked “for kids.”
I feel like this is the direction adult animation should be going in. Not overtly crass or vulgar. It occasionally has moments that go into being really adult either it be thematically or in terms of jokes. Having blood and cursing being used sparingly really makes when it goes into being adult.
I like how weird the instruments sound, like the song isn't quite complete

I have a theory.!!!! What if the reason her world is boring is cuz simons normal now. She has no memory’s of her life before but has dreams of the past. What if she going to be entering the real world simons in. And maybe that created some riffed
Finns grow up design reminds me of Greg Universe's design and I'm here for it.
It is definitely an entirely new adventure. I cannot wait to see what happens.

Society has a tendency to glorify the things that bring us pain as the credit for our creative abilities.
Just like Simon being badgered by others for how he used to he more “interesting” and how he begins to think this himself.
The song itself explains perfectly, once your demons leave your angels too are soon to take flight.

I'm excited for flonna and cake so adventure time is the best show since my childhood!
Some fun parallels:
- Fionna wakes up to her alarm 20 minutes earlier than Simon does and it beeps multiple times, whereas Simon is already awake waiting for it and shuts it off after one beep
- Fionna tries to find a channel cheers isn't on whereas Simon goes to watch cheers on purpose
- Fionna and Simon then both go to their jobs which both involve teaching people, and both times go horribly. They both also leave early
- Simon goes to the bar and talks to Dirt Beer guy and Finn, Fionna goes to the bakery and talks to Gary and then Marshall aftwerwards. Fionna orders coffee and Simon gets alcohol
- Gary and Finn both ask what's wrong and try to cheer the other up
- Gary asks Fionna to analyse the gingerbread men, Dirt Beer guy asks Simon about his "Joe Milkshake" manuscript
- Fionna and Simon both leave in a rush, Fionna because she was late for her appointment, and Simon because he was literally taken out by Finn
- Fionna travels through the woods with Hunter, Simon travels through the forest with Finn
- Fionna meets hunter and Finn says he's going to talk to huntress wizard
- Fionna drops the coffee and Simon pushes away the glass with ice which dirt beer guy throws at the floor
I really enjoy watching the first two episodes of Fionna and Cake
The tear on Fionna's building makes me think it's like the glitch in Spider Verse
6:30 the tree here looks the same as it did right after Finn planted Frens seed in come along with me, the tree at 6:43 is the bottom of the same tree but during Shermy and Beth’s era
What if Fiona and Cake have to save their world from the mushroom bombs? like maybe they live in a universe right before it happens? It would relate to Simons era and that might be the reason it shows Fionna and Cakes city destroyed in the photo?
I really like Finn’s beard, it reminds me of his father who I know wasn’t the best at being a father when he actually was back in Finn’s life but he was the best dad to Finn when he was a baby and not insane.

I think both trees are the same. First one is the tree now - given its been what 12 ish years since the finale it's grown to a reasonable size. The second shot is then the tree at full size as we saw it in Shermy and Beth's era
Fionna and Cake has been amazing. I can’t believe they are digging into the story even more. Adventure Time levelled up in the best way possible. Not gonna lie I appreciate the fact the series is full on TV 14. It shows that they know that the audience who watched Adventure Time back in the day (such as myself) are older now and I like it. It feels wonderful really

my first thought was that maybe the Ice King created Fionna and Cake's world but now that he's back to being Simon that world changed to match to what he wants which is to be normal either that or that Simon was always able to see into this world but due to the Ice King's crown it warped and twisted what he saw into the Adventures of Fionna and Cake
I adored the intro and the episodes! I watched it last night with my husband being the hypest kid in the candy store! (He wasn’t at my level) I have so many questions I can’t wait to see more just aaaa!

I also cant wait to see all the new phrases and gestures that will be added into the show. We got a whole gen that say "OH MY GLOB/Stars" when saying "Oh my God" was frown upon. "Mathematical!" as a phrases of excitement "croakboat" and "You stay away from Tier 15!!!"
I noticed prismo has stubbles on his face so either the cosmic owl drew on his face while he was asleep or something or he isnt handling jakes passing any better than finn is
I wonder if simon truly does have powers he just isnt able to use them as easily without the crown. The portal and glitches might mean he created their universe with the crowns power?
The first tree we see in the intro was the fin tree but it's in the current time with Simon and grown-up fin , and then it shifts to the future with Shery and Beth and we see the same tree but now he all grown up to his full size and then Shery and Beth come and take the fin sword
I love tge music in the intro, and although it us definetly not the same thing, "To the top" by too many zooz is 100% at least an inspiration to the opening theme.

The Animation has REALLY Improved!
I have a slight feeling we are going to get a glimpse of simon discovering another crown leading us to the other ice based character from the trailer (not ice prince but the one on the piano) or it could be a look into what he saw as he first put on the crown from his perspective (even though I quite like the idea of simon putting on another crown accepting that part of his past for it to reveal a version of simon that is kinda between ice king and himself leading into assumably a song sequence with that piano) ( i have a ton of other alternative ideas on what that scene and character could be )

I have watched the first episode of the series and I am going to continue to watch this series. If I remember to watch It on Thursdays. Because I had trouble keeping up with My adventures Superman, that came out on Friday.

The reason the Fionaa and cake world is linked to simon is because it was related to ice king:"they project right throw my mind like any normal person"(he didn't say it like that) and after simon became normal again, the world of fiona and cake also got affected (since it's inside of his mind) but hey! The two trees are the same tree: the smaller one is during the Finn/Jake era, just after Fern's planting. The larger is the Shermy/Beth (aka reincarnated Finn/Jake) in the future.
Simon pulled more than BETTY forth when he opened that portal into the past.

Well from the way he and marcys phone call went. I wouldn’t be surprised if he lies or is not open about his feelings. Also, he seems to not mind teaching others until that little girl pestered him about Fiona and cake which triggered him.

When this video appeared in the notifications, I thought it meant the "Adventure Time" theme song with Fionna and Cake and watched the theme song before watching this video to find out what I missed. Poor Jake and the bird that was in a cage. I wonder how Jake died.🤔 It's nice that Finn has a tattoo of him to remember him by. They were best friends. People have mentioned "Fionna and Cake" during a stream I was watching. I'd love to watch that show after I watch all the episodes of "Adventure Time".
9:06 I find it interesting that Cake shifts into some shapes that may be giving little teasers to episodes..! There are 8 different shapes and they seem to line up possibly with episodes 3-10?
Cake transforms:
Into a Butterfly (There is a smiley butterfly that lands on her face in the ep Cake, and butterflies are symbols of transformation, she’s leaving her cocoon of regular housecat and finding her voice as Cake
Into a lemnescate (an infinity symbol) - in ep 4 they are in Prismo’s infinite timeroom, and both Cake and Fionna run in a loop through the room, winding up back to Prismo. At the end, they’re given the remote, which grants them infinite possibilities, the ability to ‘go where they want’ anywhere in the multiverse
Into a Wobbly Jake - in ep 5, Cake feeds and pets a wobbly old Farmworld Jake, leaving her pawprint on his head.
Into a Snowman - in ep 6, Cake and Fionna are traveling the Winter Wonder World
Into a Vampire Bat - in ep 7, Cake and Fionna are taking on the Vampire King
Into a Cubic Shape - Golb is seen with cubic shapes floating around his head, and they meet a scholar of Golb in ep 8 at the end
Into a Dessicated Cake? Ep 9 has not dropped yet
Into an Egg? Ep 10 has not dropped yet (though interesting that the finale would end with an egg - a sign of hope, creation, something waiting to be born)

The second tree is the one from the future. The first one is how the tree looked like in come along with me when finn planted it.
I would confidently say that the big tree that is focused on is the fern tree as seen in the far future in come along with me. The previous shot of the tree is probably how it looks after the 12 year timeskip.
My theory is that Fionna and Cake's world became mundane due to the Ice King's reversal into Simon. Like Fionna's world was crazy and adventure-filled because Simon was in a fugue state; thus, everything he thought of would reflect the world seen as Ice King. But now that he's normal again, the world of Fionna and Cake has practically been erased from being fantastical to boring, with only remnants of the previous world seeping in through dreams that the citizens of Um have. Then of course, Simon tries to summon Betty and instead gets Cake from his head, which will create the riffs in the space-time continuum due to it being two different worlds that are supposed to co-exist in their respective planes. That button on Prismo's remote is an indication that he has to change the input (it looks like an input button) to change the fate of their worlds in some way.
Me and my parents had foxtel and it was on fox 8. Unfortually, I missed the first 2 episodes yesterday. There's good news, but also bad news. The good news is the first episode was playing on another time, and I was able to record that one, the bad news was there was no other time for the 2nd episode, so I would have to watch the rest of the series without episode 2, unless it reappears on the time schedule.
Notice tho when finn tries help simon he only knows how help him by keeping him distracted by doing these meaningless adventure it just shows tha was the only way finm was able to cope with loosing jake and he tries not to think about him to much or he be like simon is
Fionna’s jacket looks a lot like the one that Martin wears in “The Visitor” ep in Adventure Time
8:53 is Martin jacket we also see martin easter egg in the first episode showing a guy with a sword on the poster martin suppose to be a hero like fin until the story scratch that into horrible dad

What if fionna and cake aren't actually real? What if they are actually figments of Simon's imagination unintentionally brought to life by the ritual?
Many of Simon's thoughts and feelings are reflected in them and their world.
A desire to live in normal, mundane world
Fionna's depression and her desire to be something more, someone special
Feeling disconnected from her friends
The portal is in the back of Simon's head
This could be the reason why that red person is chasing them down. They are worried that Fionna's and Cake's existence could break the balance since they shouldn't exist.
ah man, multiverse is cool and all, but I like the story branching into the fact that world of Ooo is a dreamscape interconnected through everyone's dreams

Golb somehow manages to break free from Betty's control in part.

Also the opening kinda confirms that Fionna's world is actually... Simon's mind.
Basically a dimension that exists IN his head, does make me worry what's going to happen to simon. :(
Since he was not in any death world that we could see in that other series.

to here is my theory. so we know that the multiverse exists in adventure time. as seen in the Ice Finn episodes but Fiona and cake's universe comes from Simon/ Ice king and knowing that we can understand the shift between how they were in adventure time compared to how they are after Simon took over. it's the crown. it's what caused magic to appear and then vanish from Finona and cake's universe. but the characters don't know that because Simon Technically got reset in the Adventure time finally and so did Finona and cake.
But i think since ice king whore the crown the longest out of anyone and lived long enough to see an ice elemental remerge that outlived the last set of elementals. So it's easy to see that parts of the crown's magic still remain in Simon afterwards. so, when Simon comes into contact with any magic it responds to his element. because when we see him do that ritual it's not really related to ice or even the crown. So that explains Simon but what about Prismo.
well 2 things one that new character might be his boss, but I doubt it, because we know how powerful primo is, so it would not make sense if someone stronger than him was doing all this hard work. And number 2 is that he is another employ that Prismo hired to deal with Fiona and Cake. so he might be some kind of "watcher" or "counter" like Terri from inside out. And since finona and cake are not a naturally made universe compared to the other multiverses that where already there or where a wish from Prismo. which he calls them wish altered realities. So those might be the only 2 ways a new reality is accepted.
What I remember is... Simon was NOT in the afterlife worlds...
I still theorize that he ended up living in a new dimension possibly where magic doesn't exist in the end. With the betty of that world.
Or somehow simon gets trapped in his own mind.
