  • This is another video in my series “New Forest Walks” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode, I visit Ashley Walk & Pitts Wood (2 miles East of Fordingbridge) and explore the surrounding area.
My three mile (approx) circular walk starts at the Forestry Commission car park at Ashley Walk, just off the B3078 (Roger Penny Way). I initially head South down a gravel track known as Snake Road towards Ditchend Brook - which is bone dry this time of year. After catching sight on a young foal, I continue South up Cockley Hill towards Hive Garn Bottom before dropping down into the area were the old Groomkeeper's jouse (Ashley Lodge) was once located.
My route then takes me alongside Pitts Wood and at it's most South Easterly point, I head Westwards through the enclosure before eventually turning back towards my starting point.
I was filming in mid June and although the sun was out(indeed the it was very warm & humid), there were times when it clouded over which did have an affect on my Gopro camera (which is notoriously bad in poor light!).
At the end of the video, I have included some film footage of my new puppy “Fiver” and his first walk in the New Forest.
    Map courtesy of Google Maps.

I use a GOPRO HERO 7 Black Action Camera (sometimes with a Gimbal) & a Rode microphone (either a “Shotgun” or a Rode Wireless Go) together with a Canon Powershot SX530 HS.

Hi Dave - another great video, which has improved this quite drab Saturday morning immensley. Plenty of great info as always. And who doesn't love a cheeky place name? Good to see Fiver shaping up nicely. And Logan gets his usual 'Good Boy Award' from me. Take it easy. All the best - Ric

Do you have the link to the previous one you mentioned focusing on the history? I’d love to watch that one

Here is the link. It was one of my earlier videos and so I am afraid that the production isn't that good (neither is the editing or presentation!) but hopefully you will find the history element interesting. Thanks for watching. th-cam.com/video/N1umv3MvDGc/w-d-xo.html

Hi Dave. I enjoy watching your New Forest walks with your assistant Logan...thank you. I wonder if you can help me out please? I recall watching one of your New Forest walks were Logan does his zoomies on some sand at the beginning of the walk and I believe it was next to a pond which you said was one of your favourite walks??? Do you happen to know the walk I am thinking of? Thanks

Hi. I think that might be the walk at Rockford? You need to get there early to have the "sand pit" to yourself! th-cam.com/video/iMYWPBXXSEU/w-d-xo.html

Another great walk Dave. I was amazed that Logan didn't try and snap at the bee my Shashti (my Bengal cat) who was watching while sitting on my desk did.

Thanks Dave. I think Logan learnt about bees, the hard way, some years ago!:)
