I knew him as Captain Keane( sic?)USMC recon reserve commander, attached to Elmendorf AFB, my duty station 1985-1988. I was a USAF medic in the barracks next door to his detachment. Had the honor of being selected as a ground medic for a jump they had in Farewell, AK. One hell of an officer and all under his command were top notch NCO’s . Top Sgt. Roughton (spelling may be off) was harder than a coffin nail. Great guy too. I’ll never forget him either.

My oldest son is the 4th generation. Before that, we were US Army. Our family emigrated from Germany in 1804 and have fought for the USA since The War of 1812. It is a matter of honor, respect, grace, loyalty, and dignity. 1989-2009, USMC, MGySgt, retired 2009-present, Sheriff’s Department, Lieutenant.
It is interesting how times have changed, back in the 80's the Officer was seen as the leader, the last major war was Vietnam, and the Officers still had to go out into the battlefield. Today, small teams are leading the fight, the new war requires it, and the commercials display the NCO's.
lieutenants and captains were still regularly in the line of fire in Afghanistan and Iraq. A look at casualties numbers will tell you that company grade officers are still leading the fight at the front

Even after you separate you can still help. Use your GI Bill. Study humanities. Know what caused everything to be this way, and why you were sent as a sacrifice to the gods of war.
