My recruiter just got off embassy duty and he loved every second of it. He showed us pictures from the places around the world he has been. It was completely awesome. He said once he gets done with his recruiting duty he will most likely try to go back to an embassy.
Great job in Cairo. Allowed crowd to calm itself down but stood ready to act if necessary. Thunder on a bowstring was waiting behind those embassy doors. You made America proud today.
You have to be in the fleet for 1 year for them to interview you, and in the fleet for 1.5 years before they send you to the school. If you report to the school as a PFC, you will be administratively promoted to LCpl. This is information found on their website.

The hardest part about this program is lack of sleep and gay guard school and incompetent FSN's and dealing with entitled Americans can my fellow watch standees agree?
The lack of sleep only applies to the school. It's a vastly different program now from when I was there prior to 9/11. Still had the "entitled" Americans and FSN's. All I did was drink my way through almost four years of eight-hours-a-day "fire watch". It was a hell of a good time though! Those kids and DETCMDRS out there now are so micro-managed from HQ, there is no enjoyment to be had any more. It's a shame the program has gone to shit the way it has. I can't count any more the number of DETCMDRS and watch-standers who tell me they wish they had never even heard of it.
To me, a lot of these commercials seem gimmicky, but I have to admit, being able to work as an embassy guard sounds really awesome; plus, it's a great thing to put on your application for post-service jobs and security clearance
Once you get to your first duty station, you are required to have atleast one year in station before you can put in for your MSG package. It might have changed to 2 years but used to be 1.
MCSF Co NWS yourktown 1996-1997, then out to the fleet. been reading comments, and some of you just don't know or don't remember, it's a fish bowl job and even though you are living a good time, doing cool stuff, you are under the manifying glass of you host, be it the navy or another country, you get to meet great people see the sights, and be an example of what american marines are. not some knuckle head drunk reveler, you'll find yourself on your way to a normal unit in a heart beat, and no one will miss you. high morals and standards of conduct. As a grunt, this give you a better oppertunity for you to get promoted since 03 promotion is slow. also, you bring your "combat" expertise to the table and can better help the MSG train in more of a "combat" environment. Highly recommend.
all my brothers are in the marines im DEPing next month but one of my brothers is MSG and he was in Bangladesh then panama now he is at a DC post in Beijing China just visited him actually.
its called a B billet, your MOS is primary billet then msg, recruiter, combat instructor or drill instructor are b billets, anyone can apply for any of those four
hey im actually watching this video because i was on the MSG hit list for my unit, ive only been in about 18 months, so i believe the answer is still one year.
My dad served in Vietnam as one of the personal security guards for Ambassador Grant Martin during the Fall of Saigon... He retired as a Top Master Sergeant after serving 20 years in the Marine Corps... The title of a United States Marine was something my Dad had an insurmountable amount of pride and honor in until his dying day... The love he had for his fellow brothers, for His Country, and for the Corps itself was central to the exceptional man he was.... Although I didn't have him for very long - I was tremendously blessed to have had him for the time that I did... I thank God for allowing me to be the daughter of a United States Marine.
I was in the MSG back in the 80's. Based on the comments and this video, things have changed over time. It was my first assignment in the Corp. Don't ask, I am not at liberty to disclose my duty station or assignment. Suffice to say, if you saw me you were in teh wrong place and about to experience a world of hurt. Semper Fi.
I watch this and think... wow these guys are awesome... and then I look around and realize I have to turn in my weapons handling test...(any 8156 will understand)
This program is great for people who want to transition out of the Marines. You have time to go to school online, if you aren't spending all your money on booze and clubbing you can save enough so that a reenlistment bonus looks silly, and you do get to travel. Also while you are in a place on the other side of the planet it is cheaper to get to places near by than it would be to fly there from the states. You work a lot, but you can take leave just about anytime you want.
McBelch, correct about being deployed but the time frame varies, usually if you are deployed once you can be screened. FBI background checks are no joke, they will dig into everything. TS clearance is a serious background investigation.
Marine Corps logic: MSG stated that they were having a man power shortage. So instead of pushing for more Marines to apply for MSG duty, the Marine Corps raised the standards to be in MSG. It made things worse for current MSG staff and even slimmer pickings for possible MSG candidates. Ask any MSG Marine they will tell you it was cool where they sent me but dam it sucked working it.
I've been doing a lot of research on my ancestors and I have discovered that none of my direct ancestors have served in the Marine Corps. I will become the first Marine in my family.
Actually, there are no guards at the Consulate in Benghazi. MSGers do not defend the embassy/consulate that they work at, that is the job of the the Marine Corps FAST team and any other SpecOp group around.
cant wait till i turn 18 so i can jus start my marine training. no matter how hard it can be how dangerous it is. i know ill have my marine brother guarding my back.

@AsILayDyingOWNS77 not true.at the u.s embassy in new delhi, riots broke out over some RFID tagging issue in the states.I'm half american mixed and hoping to join the usmc after highschool,i hope so.
The attack occurred at a consulate, not an embassy. The State Dept. did not inform military commands of who or how many people were there and ignored repeated requests from Ambassador Stevens for greater security. The State Dept. wanted to make it seem like we felt safe in Libya at the cost of American lives.
1. "How far will you go"? If we are talking relative distance, then the answer would be Pagsanjan Falls, 100km away, and only because the Company Commander was visiting. 2. I'm indebted to this program for teaching me fairly early in my life to avoid falling under two separate chains of command. 3. I had the time of my life at the MSG school. Goddamn, what a cock-tease.
Honestly it depends 0311 that's infantry, so if you want to be out in the warzone having a chance of being shot up go there, then MP, there are many ways to go with MP you can guard bases in America, guard embassies around the world, or guard bases in warzones. Many options, I suggest you look through sorta of the history, and if you know any Marines, I'd suggest you ask them. Personally myself, I am looking towards maybe MARSOC or FORECON, I do like hard work, but I gotta work for it, so really in the end man, just push and keep pushing, then you can accomplish anything you'd like to.
To be honest I suggest you go MP, it's a great job. I'm actually in security forces, and I would say go for it, but it's all up to you. You may not get it because you can be put where the marine core think they need you.
+Temper About that force recon decision, that's a pretty good route to go. I'm going to do the same, haven't talked to anybody about getting my contract switched and any available positions.
First off, stay out of trouble. This requires a secret clearance. You MUST score tier one of your PFT in boot camp and shoot expert.. In addition, getting a promotion in boot camp is important. In school, strive to be the Co Scribe as this puts up above the others on paper. Anything you do to set yourself apart the better. Honestly, Embassy Duty was boring as all hell with more emphasis on appearance and inspections. The security alert drills were a rush though. If you do go in, plan to buy a set of inspection uniforms and hide them for inspections only. Don't expect to have a family or have kids with this MOS......your chances will be almost cut to nothing. This is the hub of the Marine Corps traditional role in history. It is an honor / special duty position MSG MCSF guards are proud of. Few get to have this role.
I was out there and eight hours standing in corframs on Post One sux; but so does having to wear a flak jacket, kevlar and gas mask to make a head call in 120 degree heat while getting shot at in some sandbox p!sshole that most school kids can't find on a map. Plus the Marine house has AC and the food is better than MREs and T-Rats for six months straight, functioning showers, heads that actually flush.
Dude, that's what I want to do when I get in. FAST Company seems awesome. But I heard officers only get a two year rotation in and out. And I'd like to stay in FAST/SRT for about 8 years. Any tips?
Matt Persiani That could be very well true. In my case back in 88 we did 2 years then a rotation back to the fleet for our 03 MOS. I admit this transition was tough as we had little true field experience and NO fleet experience. This was most likely why they changed it as many suffered in the fleet due to the special duty of MCSF.........which is now MSG. I was in during the very early stages of FAST. Many things have changed I am sure. Get out and do contracting work for PSD........the money is great!!!!! I"m retired now at 45. As far as tips, don't get into trouble before you go in, get into a Jrotc program if you school offers it as this will line you up for promotion out of boot. Talk to your recruiter on what you can do. Get off your butt and do a ton of cardio work. Join the swim team!!! SHOOT EXPERT and get a tier 1 PFT. When it comes to the RUN, keep in mind the position of your platoon in the line up. The clock starts with the first platoon By the time your platoon passes, you have lost about 20 seconds. I missed a perfect 300 on the run by only 4 seconds I had it waved do to this argument.......SPRINT at the beginning like a mad man.....push people out of the way if you have to!! If you do miss it by under 20 seconds, dispute it with your S DI. You will be respected for it as it is a very valid point. In school, aim to be scribe. It will set you apart from the rest. Remember, I don't think FAST is a guarantee from you recruiter, . Just like RECON, you have to be tested for it out of MSG school or maybe it is still MCSF.. This is a very high honor and special duty........you really have to stand out from the rest! DON"T GET MARRIED OR HAVE ANY KIDS!!! If there is one thing that will bring you down..........it is a woman! SO, if you have a GF before you go in.........let her go man. Trust me on this one. You with thank me later!! That one letter you might get in boot will destroy your mental state of mind when you really have to be SHARP. Don't ask me how I know. Should you not be accepted into FAST, you are set up nicely for Embassy Duty. You don't want ship duty......it really sucks IMO. The Sergeants get bored and the games sometimes suck. In boot, just say to yourself over and over and over......"This is just a head game". Your mind WILL be fucked with almost every minute of the day. Expect that you will never be able to do anything right in 1st Phase........NOTHING. GL
Logan Shephard Thanks man! I really appreciate the lengths you went to do describe the situations. Firstly I thank you for your service, it goes unchecked by many but hey, those who never sacrifice never really understand it. Secondly, what kind of PT is best before Boot? I'm okay on upper-body (ie pullups, pushups, flexed-arm-hangs, etc). But running is my bane of existence, I'm not fat, I just hate running. And I know it's a HUGE part in Boot PT. What's a good way to prep for that? (besides going every saturday with the reccruiters and poolees to PT).
Matt Persiani I too hate running. I suggest you don't do it but swim or bike instead. Both are better for cardio and less likely to cause an injury prior to going in. I was biking 60 miles a week and I swam about a mile a week before I went in. I did both as I swam on a swim team, played Water Polo, and biked on a bike team. Of the two, I would swim as it is the best work out for the core both stomach and back as well as outstanding cardio. Learn how to tread water well......learn the egg beater. The swim qual is tough for some. Boot camp for me was a breeze physically. Also, do mountain climbers, leg lifts an leg raised push ups and you will be just fine. if you can do 15 pull ups before you go in, you are golden. Remember to do them dead hang and once you are at the top, ease you way down and pull up fast. This will really help with lat strength and you will excel faster. If you really want to step things up, load a backpack with 65 lbs and walk 6 miles.........you will have to do that in boot and as a mortarman we humped for 24 miles with 95 # in school.. Just imagine you are carrying a HOT skinny blonde and it makes it more fun. Suggest this to your Recruiters for a weekend event of a 3 mile hump and work your way up to 6. Take care of your feet in bootcamp.........use foot powder nightly!!! Change socks at every rest stop. And we join because of our love of country, not to be thanked but when you join you will understand. Thanks man. Rah
Logan Shephard Yeah, I was watching a video from SpecialOperations.com and the guys there said the same thing about being thanked for service. That they'd rather have someone thank them for "picking up the sword". I thought it was cool so. And thanks for the tips, I'll be sure to practice those as much as possible!
@c1j2m3f4 They were inside the embassy, destroying and burning any classified materials, computers, and other documents. That is their primary concern.
In several posts I, in coordination with the RDO wrote the Embassies Emergency Action Plan. Every department was required to separate the classified material that was essential for day to day operations. The rest was prioritized for destruction with the most sensitive material first. In a full destruction operation it is an all hands op, people shredding, people bringing material to be shredded, etc. In Mogadishu I maintained a single file folder with my essential material.
Hey i want to do this as an officer but my future wife hopefully ^^ is going to west point (ergo Army Officer) can someone tell me how we will live and how the moving process will be?
GOP=Grand old Party. The original political party after the Americas separated from England. Hillary was Secretary of State at that time, and a Democrat. Not sure that the GOP or the Dems as a whole would have ignored the pleas for help from Benghazi. www.factcheck.org/2016/06/the-benghazi-timeline-clinton-edition/
Gene Loscowski hey man. I really want to do MSG. Im planning to start my basic training next year and i really want to br a MSG. Is it true that you get to choose one country that i like and they choose other for me? How long is the contract (of being MSG?) How long do i stay in that country? Im so curious....also i have gf in Thailand. It be great to see her ASAP 😁
Don't know how they do it now but back in the '70's you could only be in MSG for no more then 3 years and no less then 2 years. So doing it for 15 years is hard for me to believe. As an NCO you are a watchstander which is one tour and as a Staff NCO you are a Detachment Commander. Them are the only ways you can do it. As an Officer you are a Company Commander.
mi2tn i plan to serve 6-8 depends on contract. If i plan to do MSG do i need to do 15 years too? Can I only serve 2 tours? Like if i wanna be in Thailand twice? Or it has to be two different countries? Sorry I really want to know. Thank you!
You can only serve in a hard-ship post for a year and then have to pick another to stay in MSG. If you don't go to a hard-ship post you will do the whole tour in one post. Don't think you can do it for more then 3 years and then you go back to your regular MOS. You can't do 15 years in MSG. There are times you can move to another post during your MSG duty if the need arises and you are one of the few available. It happened to me when I went to Cyprus as my first post. I had a visa for Gabon and when they opened the post there they sent me there because I already had a visa and it took 6 weeks to get a visa for Gabon back then. Gabon was a hard-ship post so I stayed there a year and then went to Mexico to finish out my tour. After you do that as an NCO you can only get back into MSG as a Staff Post Commander, meaning you have to be a Staff Sargent or above in the enlisted ranks.
hey im leaving for bootcamp in 5 days, and my MOS is special security forces, and after 4 years my staff sgt told me I could apply for MSG. is it really worth it or do you think I should do something else?
tbh I do not believe that an embassy security guard goes to places where no one has gone before. To me that sounds like something that, for example, Force Recon would do. Nonetheless much respect guys!
Talk to your units career planner. When I was in 2002-2006, my career planner hit me up in Fallujah. I was about to be an NCO with about 2 years in. You need to commit 3 years to MSG. Since I had 2 years in I'd have to extend my contract for 1 year. I talked to a few staff-nco's in my unit and the battalion SgtMaj about their MSG duties. They said MSG school was like bootcamp again. When I heard that plus extending for 1 year; i said FUCK THAT, EAS BITCHES!
they also check to insure that the safes are all locked. I had some fun with the MSG, I had a room full of safes, I would write what looks like a safe combo on a slip of paper, the MSG 's will spend all night trying to find the safe that the combo will open.
Doesn't kill your career unless you F up. One or two days off out of five or six is the norm. And they are not really off because there is a curfew. Also, you will have duty, unit PT, "guard school",manditory classes, collateral duties, PME, plus others (inspections, command visits, "team building [WTF seriousy Gunny can't this be addressed?], on average over 3 1/2 years (extended) I was doing work nearly sixty hours a week (trust me -- don't hope to having a serious girlfriend). Moreover;
MSG sucked. Any Marine on the program that says otherwise is lying to you. However--and this is a big however--it's also an experience of a lifetime. How many people do you know that can say they went on a PT run along the Moscow river and down to Red Square? Meet the Secretary of State, or even the President? Visit a dozen countries, on the government's dollar? Not everyone gets to do everything, but most people do get to do some awesome stuff.
From my perspective, I wouldn't do it. MSG is not what this video cracks it up to be. Especially with all this stuff going on right now, you are looking at have one to maybe 2 days off a week. Just stay in the fleet, pick up Sgt and go to DI duty. MSG duty kills career Marines. Trust me, I was a motard before coming on MSG duty, but the shit I've been put to deal with is just ridicolous. So don't do it!
Marines make the title "Security Guard" sound bad ass and terrifying.
I work for AlliedBarton and it's really boring... it's mostly just paperwork.
Every Marine is a "Security Guard" they are all trained for security.

If you go "somewhere where no one's ever been to before" (1:00) ... you would be the only one there and there wouldn't be any embassy to protect.

***** Mines was offered, but that's only if you get a high enough PT score.
SO AWESOME! Semper Fi.
What steps do you have to take towards becoming a Marine Security Guard for the Embassies?
My recruiter was an 0331 then MSG....so I'd say yes?
I was out there and eight hours standing in corframs on Post One sux; but so does having to wear a flak jacket, kevlar and gas mask to make a head call in 120 degree heat while getting shot at in some sandbox p!sshole that most school kids can't find on a map.
Plus the Marine house has AC and the food is better than MREs and T-Rats for six months straight, functioning showers, heads that actually flush.
0341 MCSF 1st FAST 1988.
Dude, that's what I want to do when I get in. FAST Company seems awesome. But I heard officers only get a two year rotation in and out. And I'd like to stay in FAST/SRT for about 8 years. Any tips?
Matt Persiani
That could be very well true.
Matt Persiani
I too hate running.
This seems interesting
@c1j2m3f4 They were inside the embassy, destroying and burning any classified materials, computers, and other documents. That is their primary concern.
In several posts I, in coordination with the RDO wrote the Embassies Emergency Action Plan. Every department was required to separate the classified material that was essential for day to day operations. The rest was prioritized for destruction with the most sensitive material first. In a full destruction operation it is an all hands op, people shredding, people bringing material to be shredded, etc. In Mogadishu I maintained a single file folder with my essential material.
Oh, and would I have a better chance of being stationed in Germany since I can speak German and will continue studying German?
MSG duty! RAH! has its ups and downs... and both are extreme...
Hey i want to do this as an officer but my future wife hopefully ^^ is going to west point (ergo Army Officer) can someone tell me how we will live and how the moving process will be?
No, that was a security forces Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST)
Is it true that they would need to have both parents born in USA because of the top clearance?
Would of been nice if you guys were at Benghazi
+Eric Joseph I agree
+Eric Joseph hillary*
they couldn't and it wasn't their fault
Eric Joseph blame the gop for their bullshit
GOP=Grand old Party. The original political party after the Americas separated from England. Hillary was Secretary of State at that time, and a Democrat. Not sure that the GOP or the Dems as a whole would have ignored the pleas for help from Benghazi. www.factcheck.org/2016/06/the-benghazi-timeline-clinton-edition/
Go Marines. Protect our countries Diplomatic Missions..
Is this job for the reserve as well
Is it possible to transfer to the MSG MOS after serving in the combat infantry?
But the world is round?
Spent 15 years as a MSG. Assignments: Russia, Bulgaria, Germany, Laos, Bangkok and China.
Gene Loscowski how was it? And we're you just assigned to embassies or they let you get to go out and explore???
Sign up for Years of Fire watch, I passed on that one. Great video though
Does anyone know if you can be a PFC and be a Marine security guard? Or do you have to be Lcpl and above?
Brendan Villa 0311 security forces is a base MOS no rank requirement. To be a embassy security guard I believe it is E4 minimum but may be incorrect
hey im leaving for bootcamp in 5 days, and my MOS is special security forces, and after 4 years my staff sgt told me I could apply for MSG. is it really worth it or do you think I should do something else?
tbh I do not believe that an embassy security guard goes to places where no one has gone before.
To me that sounds like something that, for example, Force Recon would do.
Nonetheless much respect guys!
How do you become on of them? Just wondering
Explain how the msg is like ? I try to do it
Talk to your units career planner.
Oh really? The embassy dont have classified papers?
they also check to insure that the safes are all locked. I had some fun with the MSG, I had a room full of safes, I would write what looks like a safe combo on a slip of paper, the MSG 's will spend all night trying to find the safe that the combo will open.
What's the MOS like the number
0:12 "four corners of the world" flat earth confermd .
no. only the Marine Corps provides those duties.
Oorah! Semper Fi!
Doesn't kill your career unless you F up. One or two days off out of five or six is the norm. And they are not really off because there is a curfew. Also, you will have duty, unit PT, "guard school",manditory classes, collateral duties, PME, plus others (inspections, command visits, "team building [WTF seriousy Gunny can't this be addressed?], on average over 3 1/2 years (extended) I was doing work nearly sixty hours a week (trust me -- don't hope to having a serious girlfriend). Moreover;
can u become a pfc and get this job??
I wanna Join in MSg... Is it Good For me to go school?
@JessMenu No doubt. Made a major boring shit job look cool.

Sorry for the delay
Security Forces. Boot Camp September 22nd.
Yeah this guy is finding out SecFo is not Embassy Security.
Yeah that boot has no idea it is a Special Duty assignment lol
+Matt Berutto Having fun standing at a post all day?
MSG?
Not everyone gets to do everything, but most people do get to do some awesome stuff.
traditional lateral united States marines assault amphibious expeditionary readiness specialing in advanswift

Kind of funny though how nothing much happens in U.S. embassies. If something does happen, then it is like an explosion where security can't do much.
Only if you send me to Haiti
This is my mos, going into boot in 7 days
Go enlisted and be a grunt that is challenging
Carlos Gomez u can only be msg as a grunt i thought
alldud13 no that’s security forces. 03 ain’t bad
You go into infantry training, so you're still a grunt
Most security contracts in the marine corps are 2 years grunt and then 2 years security.
My Son is in this Commercial.
