Yeah, it went from regular beyblades which were good, to magnets which were awesome to spin gear which was honestly the best gimmick.
You could also swap out the magnet weight disk with older stuff and vice versa. Sizing was the same. Atleast that's how I remember it.
New stuff just looks "standard" compared to engine gear beyblades.

Plastic gen is the only Beyblade I acknowledge. I’ll admit, they used to explode when we were kids, but we played rough. 😂 They used to cost $5 at KB toys. I’m mad I never stocked up on them. The new Beyblade is so soft and lame to me, I know I’m no longer in the demographic, but still.

Bad thing about plastics is people only see them nowadays as collector items…
I think it’s a normal thing considering people out there who growth up with first gen are now people living adults life. In pandemic I saw an increasing interest on plastic gen, probably for having the full series posted officially on YT but more important, they all had the enough time to focus on their hobbies staying lots of time in home.
Now the hype is much less as it has been last year and I’m pretty sure that’s because now everyone get back to work and restart their normal lives.
So it’s all about focus groups based on ages, the less responsibilities the more time to create/watch content, hosting tournaments etc…
We who are interested on this stuff need to reach young audience to really achieve a revival on this and build a community with the spotlight on each generation.
So keep it up with this kind of efforts man, there are lots of things to talk about plastics.

To be honest, I have not seen anything of Metal FIght nor Burst. I come to Beyblade videos exclusively from Nostalgia from seasons 1 through 3. And, to be honest... I kinda want to watch it again since I've been stumbling more and more often onto Beyblade videos. I never knew that the blades already were more intricate in that era. I love this gen of Beyblade, the aesthetic of this gen always hit right with me, as well as HMS. Which Metal and Burst designs didnt clicked with me.
My first beyblade being Gallman, and loved playing with it, got more beyblades as a kid and ended up losing basically almost all of them with the only survivor was the Attack rings of dragoon V and Wyborg, with Flash Leopard 1 base. It really was a pretty mediocre beyblade, but hell do i loved it
When I saw that they were releasing the episodes on TH-cam I decided to buy my first beyblade in a long time and decided with my favorite design (Driger MS) and loved it, and I got hooked, wanting more I searched for my second fav (Driger V2) which was in a bundle with Driger V, so I said 2x1, why not? and finally tried to get all the beyblades the BladeBreakers used, since I grew up with that.
Im happy with my collection, I bought the 1st anniversary collection, and basically then only thing missing is Dragoon MSUV in my collection, which i may never have tbh those who know, know why 😅.
I just love Beyblade 1st gen

my first exposure to beyblade since my childhood with the plastic gen was burst
and holy hell how wildly different it is
the fact that there were no bit beasts and only 3 parts to swap out just made me so sad
and on top of that they're so gaudy and overdesigned that they should all come with visual epilepsy warnings just for looking at them

Aside from the weight disc, I don’t think any beyblade (with the exception of the very early ones) had reuse of parts. Almost each and every release had its own unique gimmick/parts, even beyblades from obscure characters. Making custom combos back then was pretty much limitless. You really could make your own unique partner and nobody else would have that exact combo. I really miss the original series 😅

Another advantage of Plastic Gen was that fakers were rare and when they did come about, they were easy as shit to sus out. Not only that, Hasbro was actually pretty reliable.
Around the end of Metal, Hasbro started to get lazy (massacred the 4d wheels), and now in Burst....
Hasbro's Burst beys are missing entire construction sets and are very low quality in comparison to Takara Tomy.

Ah man, oh boy. This bundle right here, these were my childhood
Used to watch the anime, we recorded all the episodes we could on VHS. The only season we got fully was the 2nd one. For some reason they skipped showing a bunch of the 1st season - or school had all of us too busy and we missed them, but still. I got no memory of them ever showing the 3rd season on TV here, and even for the 2nd one, they switched to the English dub after the Dragoon vs Cyber Dragoon fight
Some strong nostalgia brought me back about a year ago. I just. Had this burning urge to watch the series again. I never got to see the 3rd season, only bits of it, and I remember having some 'hmm, I dunno if I like that' bits as a kid when I tried watching it. But now? As an adult? My. God. It was so good.
I Wholely recommend the original Japanese one with English subtitles. For the whole set of the 3 seasons of Bakuten Shoot Beyblade, English dub changed a few interactions (such as why people gathered to celebrate/cheer Tyson (or Takao, as he's called in Japanese) on before his final match with Kai. In the dub this is because it's supposedly his birthday, but in the Japanese version the whole small village is just super proud of him making it this far & they want to show their support. It's wholesome! // In Season 2, there's a scene that loses a lot of its impact in the dub. The Japanese version is silent, we can see the expressions and actions a character takes (it's Kai), but he doesn't say anything, there's no internal monologue either. We fully get what he's thinking in that moment and it's pretty neat. In the dubbed version they've added music & make Kai speak in a way that lessens the atmosphere of the scene to me. // And boy. Don't even get me started on season 3 lol. This season. Oh. My. God. It's actually pretty mature. It deals with an abusive relationship between an adult/boss and their younger followers, there's cheating, many emotions (Especially in Kai's final fight. It's so badass in Japanese. It's the perfect end to him as a character And I Love It), and the big bad of the final arc even has a formidable but fittingly evil plan on how he does things. Like it's actually genius in a way - the English version cuts half of his plan away and makes it have less of a critical impact, whereas in the Japanese version it's just. Man.) and the atmosphere & plot at times too, and I find the original stronger in these aspects
I can recommend the 1st & 3rd seasons to everyone. It might be a bit extra at first and show its age, but it's really enjoyable. The little cultural trivia is great, you get attached to the characters & later the plot just becomes super intriguing. The 2nd season isn't as strong, but if you like the bit chip creatures/bit-beasts/sacred beasts, then you'll find at least something to enjoy in it
As for me, I wonder if we still have some of our old Beyblades. We used to have plenty. My brother always got all the Dragoon & Draciel ones, I got the Drigger beys and I forget which one of us had Dranzer. We also had several other beys from the 1st season, I remember always wanting a Wolborg, and eventually I did find the orange one. To my (bad (lol)) memory it was a bit translucent too, either way, it was my favourite thing ever. So, I'd Imagine my parents still have it somewhere in the storage. Might also have my first Drigger, that one meant so much to me. It had a holographic sticker on the Bit Chip, I remember losing the chip several times xD But I Think I always found it in the end.
Sadly, most of the beys were sold at a fleamarket/second-hand-store when we were teens, but I beg of my younger self to have had enough attachment left to have kept at least one of them around. I have to go digging when I next go to my parents' house. I have so many questions xD

You know I am not gonna lie, I honestly think if Hasbro or Takara Tomy were to reboot or remake the original plastic generation it would do pretty well all things considered. Given the current market of how people desire the old products more over the newer it would be both a good marketing tactic as well as a way to show "fan service" to the older audience that has grown up with the original toys, while also introducing the toys to a newer generation.

I agree For me, Original Series in the Anime is the best, I can relate with most of the characters and g revolution is the Peak of beyblade, they bring amazing stuff and see how Tyson starts to work without his teammates is amazing and the bega arc is my favorite.
Something that metal or I never caught much my attention compared to original series is because was very fantasy or just saving the world, sure OG have fantasy too and yeah in masters have tournament arc, but idk, it feels like typical shonen plot.
Burst return my love to beyblade but after season 4 didn't like much surge or quaddrive compared to the 1st 2 burst seasons.
OG have the magic of tournaments and saving the World and also see how each character have something to learn specially season 1 with Max, Ray and Kai arcs and season 3 with Tyson and the manga have more lore like Tala Backstory and Zeo Backstory (this one is different from the anime* thats why OG for me have this magic that metal or burst even I like them but for me OG still the best.

Plastic gen is just "it" for me. I collected so many over the years of my childhood with the Dragoons being my favorite line.
Everything about them just made sense. The plastic felt and looked durable (and was). I look at the newer Beys today and just.. see a lot of clear plastic which just looks kind of cheap imo. And in my experience with clear plastic stuff in general, way too brittle and sensitive, break and crack easily. And some are just way too flashy as well.
Also, the but beast designs were really cool and caught my eye. Seeing them come to life in the anime, the storyline behind them, all got me interested. Seeing as how that's not really a thing anymore and most are either just little scribbles with words or some type of face plate, kind of takes away from them a bit.
While the gimmicks of the newer gen seem to be better executed, they just.. don't really do it for me. Kind of wish they'd do a mix of plastic and new gen stuff. Keep the bit beasts, more metal for.more durability and a heftier feel, and a little bit of the flash and boom, I might be a fan again.
Always fantasized about creating my own unique Bey. Would be cool~

i think the biggest difference from the plastic and metal anime series is that the plastic one focused a lot on the bit beasts, it was the coolest stuff from the anime, but in the meantime i don't remember them getting much into the beyblade's parts and gimmicks. the metal series focus a lot more into the beyblade's parts and gimmicks, while the bit beasts are mostly neglected (save for pegasus itself, which still doesn't get nearly as much attention as even a lesser notable bit beast like griffolyon)

    • @nizumablader

The reason they don’t get mentioned in mfb is because they aren’t but beasts, where in plastic gen bit beasts were actual physical beings that would choose to fight along side a blader. The “spirits” in metal fight are a tangible thing like they are in plastic gen. Like how in the og series it was a big deal when someone summons a bit beast, the announcers acknowledge it. That never happens in metal fight. They are just this vague thing that isn’t really explained.

I found out about it around the same time I got into Metal Fight and Beyblade as a whole back in ~2012 and I've always had an admiration for the generation. I got the main season 1 cast of "S" beys for Christmas back in I believe 2018. I loved using just those 4 and I grew to love the gen even more but over time things broke and pieces were lost and it saddens me that the only one I can really use left out of the 4 is Driger S. Recently, I've been watching the anime in it's original Japanese form and it has been an amazing experience and I'm a little sad that I'm close to finishing it. Just this year I ordered a Burning Kerberous through ZenMarket as a birthday present for myself and it's lovely, one of my favorite beys that I own now. While I still want to collect all 3 gens (Burst being the most prominent in my collection right now, loosely followed by my 9 Metal Fight beys), I only have 2 Bakuten Shoot beys that I can really count as a part of my collection seeing as the other 3 have at least 1 broken part. Plastic saga does it's best to be a great story while Metal saga tries to be a great art. In Plastic saga there is great emphasis on character development but the beys themselves don't have that much individuality. Dranzer has a mode change gimmick, Dragoon was the first reverse rotation bey but that's never given a big highlight in the show. Wheras the character development in Metal saga may not be as good, it is very poetic. And they beys have such individuality as if they themselves are characters.

The individuality of the beyblades in plastic gen is more focused on the fantasy elements of the bit beasts
