    I wish I had found this video several months ago when I was just starting out and trying to figure out what I needed to get started. Many knitters on TH-cam forget that this ‘knitting world’ is somewhat of a foreign language to those just starting out. I really appreciate how you discussed each set and what they were good for and also the reasons for the variety of needle lengths. Very helpful and thank you!

    My mind was blown when i learned you can use interchangeable circular needles. Total game changer. And yes its very addicting.

    thank you for such a detailed explanation of all the different Chiaogoo needles. it can get confusing just trying to decide what to purchase. mostly when new knitters want to know what they are investing their money in. i purchased the complete 4" set so i could do the hats.. but finding i like the size of them. i will eventually get the rest of them but it will take time. (and they said golf was expensive). lol.. i need to give louder hints for Christmas and birthdays.. lol

      Omg you’re very welcome! Thank you for taking the time to watch AND comment. I’m so very happy when I hear I’ve helped someone out in any way at all. Did you hear about the new set of chiaogoo needles coming out in the summer? They look lovely BUT how many sets does a girl actually need? LOL, but you never know, christmas will be here again before you know it so you never know. When people ask what I’d like I usually have a small exact list that I start late summer and if they ask what else I say “I could use any amount of cash, whatever you can do so I can add it all together to get the needle sets I’ve been dreaming about. I never paid for any myself, I’ve just saved all the cash gifts for birthdays and Christmas. Hope your weekend is going great, hugs , Barb

    This is seriously the most helpful video regarding which chiaogoos to get! Thank you thank you!
    My take on the “twist” name is maybe because it has that twisted wire wrapped in plastic for the cord that ironically prevents it from twisting? 🤷🏽‍♀️

    Really loved this episode, thank you for doing it. I do have one item to note... The "con" first mentioned near the end of the video, saying that the storage case pockets in the larger needle sizes are attached in reverse order? I don't think that's a mistake... I think it's well-thought-out design.. if you tried to put a spare pair of 10 mm needles right below existing 10 mm needles it would be too bulky... so they reversed the arrangement. A spare set of needles fits neatly in the case! The storage cases are wonderful. I keep the needles in cases sorted by cable size. Large needles/large cables in one case, small needles/cables in the another case.

    Thank you for such an unbiased and in depth review of the Chiaogoo product line. I was looking to upgrade from a wooden interchangeable set and you helped me zero in on what to purchase. Yesterday I received a set of the red minis and immediately started a swatch for a Fair Isle hat. Wow, the difference between needle types is amazing and you review was so accurate. My next goal is to save up for a set of the 4" tips. Thanks again!

      Yay, omg you made my day! I'm so very glad to help! I really wanted to love my addi rocket squared more than the chiaogoo ones but I truly love the chiaogoo more. I haven't tried sll the brands out there bit when you find a brand snd type you just love why not stick with those?! I am thrilled you love them too already. I am currently working on a sweater with chunky yarn and wish that chiaogoo made a set like the red and blue kits but with needle sizes above 5mm maybe 6mm-10mm...so I could use then for sleeves instead of doing magic loop, but hopefully they're working on them. I'd definitely be one of the first to order them, that's forsure. Hope you're having a wonderful weekend, thanks again for your feedback, watching and especially commenting 😊. Hugs your way, Barb

      @@knottyyarnies450 Happy Holidays! I am trying to decide between the blue shortie set and a 4" small set and thought you might have some thoughts. I mostly knit hats, mittens, scarves and the occasional shawl but someday would like to do sweaters. Do you think that with additional cables the blue set would see me through or would I want the extra inch on the needle tips that the 4" set would give me? My current wooden interchangeables have 5" tips and I find them too long. Thanks for your help.

      @@carolwright4018@knottyyarnies450 I’d love to hear thoughts on these 2 options as well. They are the ones I am currently debating between (4” small set or the the blue shortie set). I currently have the 5” complete set, and as I get stronger at knitting, sometimes wish they were shorter for knitting in the round. I do do magic loop, but in the round is so fast - my worry about the blue shorties though is hand fatigue. Ultimately, I think I’m aiming for which set is the most versatile as well 🤔

    Good to know about the cord length. Some other brands of knitting needles have the length of the cord with the needle size already added. Which is annoying when you use the cable with a shorter needle tip.
    Funny that you said you are having trouble reading the sizing on the needles. When I got my first Chiaogoo set I could read the sizing on the needles just fine. Now I need my glasses. Thank you for sharing all this info. I love Chiaogoo needles. 🧶

    I got the complete 5" set last Christmas and fell in love with them. I now plan on getting all the sets eventually minus the 4" one (I may get some 4" needles at some point but not the full set). I hope to get the Tunisian hook set for Christmas then I will buy the shorties set next since I am interested in getting into socks. I love how they are all compatible with each other if you get the cable converter, I am really looking forward to experimenting mixing knitting with Tunisian crochet.

      Sounds like great plans! I seen they have new sets coming this summer....I’m anxious to hear how they are. The cords are going to be 360 degrees spinning and you can still use them with the old sets and visa versa too from my understanding. I just love knitting with my sets still so much. Hope your weekend is going great! Sorry it took so long to get back to you, youtube is terrible at letting us content creators know every time we get messages, only every once in awhile arggg. @@knottyyarnies450 I just looked up their new stuff! Not sure how their new cables are different than the Spin, maybe they are metal inside instead of all nylon? Love that they are all the lengths though. Also not sure who needs 3" large needles but so glad to see they keep expanding their range.
      Think they might come out with stainless steel hooks in the normal size range? I would love to have a set that feels like my needles.

      @@ciannacoleman5125 omg those would be nice if they did! Maybe we should should email them and tell them we'd be interested hmmm. ?
      As for the 3" needles, I didn't see/hear about those ones....I'd totally love those for sleeves, socks and hats too. My 4" set sometimes is a wee tight to do hats in the round depending on yarn weight, pattern and how many stitches I'm doing and my 9" sets only go upto size 5mm. That's 1 thing I've messaged them about was making another "shortie" set with the 2" and 3" ones but from 5.5mm and up, maybe to 9mm or even 10mm, I'd totally buy them for my chunky sweaters for the sleeves.

    It was helpful for me to understand that 'small/large needle' sets didn't only refer to needle length & circumferences included BUT ALSO to both the needle & cable screw on end pieces. Large ended cables (no matter what length) will not fit on any needle with a Small screw end. Likewise, Small cables (no matter what length) will not fit on any needle with a Large screw end. Hey Lorraine, yes definitely been awhile since we chatted, life kind of gets away on us right?! I had the first 2 weeks after our collaboration where I was struggling with finding my groove again, I recorded a podcast (33) but when I watched it back I felt like I just wasn’t myself, I struggled through it, so I deleted it. I ended up the week before last recording a new one that I called 33.5 haha, then yesterday released this one so guess I’m back to myself, I think I was just feeling over this heat and isolation like everyone else. I’m currently test crocheting and test knitting too all while trying to get all the gift knits done too for Christmas, birthdays and a wedding too. All is terrific here though! Hope you and your family are well also! You’ve probably heard about our crazy heat wave here, nothing like the one out west last month of course but it has been mid forties with humidity and it’s gross! I actually dyed some wool on Saturday and it’s hanging to dry still, argggg! The only thing new here is my little bird died a few weeks ago, boy I miss the peeping so badly! Well I better get back to my test crochet (another beautiful sweater by Kaila Osborn) , the yarn I dyed Is for my test knit for Tina Tse, sooo excited since it’s my first test KNITTING ever! Have a great week my friend, chat with you again soon, Barb xoxo

    Good video but here are some corrections: The ChiaoGoo complete sets both 4 or 5 inch DO NOT contain all sizes- they do not have a US2.5(3mm) , US10.75(6.5mm), US10.875,(7mm), but these can be bought individually and they will fit in the case. The case is 100% cotton and is washable. Look for the how to tighten Chiaogoo interchangeables video. Also 4 inch tips complete set come with shorter cables than the 5 inch tips do.the cables are Two 8 inch, a 14 inch and a 22 inch in small and large. The 5 inch tips come with three cables of each size but 14inch,22inch,30 inch. The cable contents are different besides the tip length. The mini sock sets have the same lengths depending on tip length 4 or 5 inch. The blue shortie 3 inch are hollow, not the 2 inch.
    Using cable connectors or adaptors adds lots of variety- save them on safety pins to prevent loss.

    • @knottyyarnies450
      @knottyyarnies450  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks....I say “sizes “from” to “to”, not meaning every single one! I did not want to sit there for every set and say the exact sizes since anyone can look it up quite easily.
      The 4” does not come with smaller cable size than 8” actually.
      I do mention that I thought the 3” set sounded hollow so thanks for letter me know they are, because they do feel light for their size as I mention. Thanks also for letting me know what the case is made of, I’ll be making a more updated video soon including a short how to on each thing like connecting and the connectors.
      Thanks for all your additional info, corrections and taking the time to watch and comment. Hugs, hope you’re well, Barb

      @@knottyyarnies450 I prefer them separated. If you have them both in the same video I don’t think which one is first matters. Have you thought about making a video of your crocheting on one and knitting on a different video? I’d suggest you could put any extras (upcoming channel information, personal items, etc) on both videos if that doesn’t get too confusing.
      I think if I were scrolling along YT and your channel was suggested, I probably wouldn’t be interested in watching long videos. People’s attention span has shortened 😂, and some channels have shared their analytics saying that viewership drops at about 20 minutes. But, bottom line, it’s your channel and you need to do what works best for you. I hope this makes sense and I don’t mean to say anything bad, but hopefully it comes across as helpful.

Von der Qualität definitiv die besten Nadeln am Markt. Auch die kleine Zubehörtasche die man in das Set einlegen kann habe ich für die 4und 5Zoll Nadeln mitbestellt.

    Are there cables 80 cm for the mini needles?

  • @brunellacarlberg6222
    @brunellacarlberg6222 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the 5" mini set for socks, magic loop. Do you know if there should be a hole on the needle and the cable or just the cable. My needles do not have a hole. I to make sure I didn't get a fake set.

    • @knottyyarnies450
      @knottyyarnies450  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm. I’ll check….i pulled out my set and the cable has a hole but the needle does not however…..the needles each have a small “bump” like smaller than a freckle where the hole should be if there was one so maybe that’ll help tell them apart if there is a fake set out there? Also they’ll come with an entire set of mini cables, end stoppers and needles to put into the cables to turn them too. So you should have gotten all that also to tell. I’m sure your’s will be fine. Enjoy your knitting, Barb

      Very informative video explaining the so many Chaio Goo needles/sets! I plan to rewatch and take some notes as there are a LOT! I am a return-to-knitting person using less time sewing. I have started with socks, magic loop. More difficult than I anticipated but I am carrying on! I am using Chaio Goo circulars and am interested in purchasing some interchangeable sets so your video is perfect.After rewatching, I may ask your opinion on which set would be most useful for me. Thanks for your help !❤

      Hey Valorie! How’s it going this week? Which needles do you use, I’d love to hear/know! I just got my first set of these in January and as you can tell, I’m obsessed with them now. I did have only a boye set for years, then hubby bought me a full set of Addis rocket squared for Christmas last year since it was the needles sold at the yarn store we were at in Ottawa at the time. They’re so limited though because they are only 3.5mm-8mm so pretty limited for fingering yarn too but the join is terrible with fingering yarn (in my opinion of course) so it doesn’t really matter now that there isn’t smaller needles. Hope to chat with you tomorrow night in our usual meet up spot ;) I’m always excited for Tuesday evenings because of not just Noelle and Kelly but also because of all the new fibre friends I chat with too! Hugs your way, thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment

      @@knottyyarnies450 i have a complete 4" set of Chiaogoo with the additional small sock/lace set and the blue shorties.
      I still own Knitters Pride Cubics, Nova, Nova Cubics and Zing, as well as Hiya Hiya Sharps small and large sets. I have given away Knitters Pride Nova, Knit Picks and Denise Interchangeable sets. Wish I could have started with Hiya Hiya.

      @@VisitWithNanaAndPapa I just received my first hiyahiya ones, I ordered the sock set that is interchangeable but I didn’t order the case, totally should have but I’ll probably add it in my other case somehow. I like them also, I will definitely review those in a video once I use them more but so far I love them too, i am knitting a sock, magic loop of course because they only came with long cords, which I’m totally fine with now. I do prefer 9” circulars though so do you know if they have a set of short interchangeable ones? What about if anything hiya hiya can work with any other brands? I know knits picks has a couple things that work with chiaogoo but I don’t own any knit picks as of yet, not sure if I ever would because I have the Addis full set, all these beautiful chiaogoos , a full set interchangeable hiya hiya sock sizes, a boye full set, 2 fixed circulars in Lykke, a couple fixed sets of loops and thread needles, a 9” circular bamboo of clover that i bought just to try out 9” circulars to see if I liked it before committing (the needles were $25 for the one set, I totally should have just put that $25 towards the chiaogoo red shorties set, live and learn!),. maybe some odds and ends here and there too and a no name really low priced set . All of which I will eventually chat about in videos here and there but of course will never be as long as this informative one because I only have 1 set of each.

      Wow I’m sorry to hear that. I have 7 sets and just ordered the new yellow shorty set yesterday. I screw them in with the key tool but not so tight that it’ll strip the screw part, kind of just one solid turn while holding the silicon piece on the other side that doesn’t have the hole, then it just takes a wee bit of umphhh to twist after I’m done, works for me BUT I’m very upset for you. Maybe I’ll do a video on how I screw them together too so it can help to visualize. I’ve done hundreds of projects with these needle sets and never had one come undone or had trouble un tightening when I’m done either so I’m very sorry to hear you have. Hope your holiday season is going great. Thanks for the input because I love to hear/learn how others feel about these, hugs your way, Barb

    Do u prefer the red cables or the clear SPIN cables that spin? It depends on the project huh? So the SPIN needle tips aren't as sharp correct? So if u wanted sharper needles u go with the red set and if u want the spin cables buy those seperatly because they are interchangeable yeah? I'm a crocheter who wants to start knitting. I don't know if I want to spring for a set yet or start quite yet. I want to sell some crafts. Maybe I will reward myself with knitting needles after I sell some crocheted pieces. I don't know yet. I'm bored with the crochet patterns I see out there. I want to get to the point where I'm designing my own stuff. Done a couple things. I love to just follow a pattern and not have to think sometimes.
    Edit: oh yeah, the next question is to get the 4 inch or 5 inch.
    Oh yeah and another thing, what is with the 16 inch circular thing?

    • @knottyyarnies450
      @knottyyarnies450  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love the red cables but honestly haven’t tried the clear since I don’t own any. I find the needles “sharper” as you go down in size if that makes sense? I find chiagoo needles aren’t sharp really any size, but when I use my hy-y’a hy-y’a hi-y’a hi-y’a sharps, those are super sharp I need a finger protector. Sorry my auto correct is flipping my words here stupid thing lol. I started crocheting 8 years ago and really have did it all so I want to challenge myself to get just as good at knitting.
      I like my 5” set and do more magic loop so that’s why I love them, the 5” fits nicer in my palm. As for the 4” if you plan to do lots of hats you can easily do it in the round with the 4” set and an 8” cord. If you use the 5” needles you’d need a 6” cord BUT you really can’t go round and round with that, it’s truly weird. This is why I purchased the 5” first then was gifted the money so thought I’d get the 4” set so I can do hats with those (it’s really all I use my 4” ones for). I use the 5” for everything including socks, sweaters etc....
      I also hear that my mini sets I show here now have a set with 5.5mm-8mm! I’m sooooo excited! I’ll be asking Santa for a set of those for sure!
      Good luck on designing too. I love to do that also but I just give my patterns away by filming tutorials lol, I’m not confident enough to sell any yet.
      I am planning to do a similar video as this one again but showing ALL the needle sets and even straights and showing everything and answering as much as I can too.
      Hope I answered everything you asked, I can’t see your comment as I type this sadly, but I tried to memorize it all ;) hugs and take care Jenny, all the best on your yarnie adventures too. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time also for commenting. Barb

    Hi, great video. I’m new to circulars and only began using them 4 weeks ago because I broke my shoulder. I use knit pro symfonie but I’m hoping to invest in the 5 inch set of chaiogoo. I have a question. What is magic loop?

    • @ebuyuoy5857
      @ebuyuoy5857 ปีที่แล้ว

      The magic loop technique allows you to work in the round using just one long circular needle by dividing your stitches into two halves and pulling the cable out between them, creating a loop. I have knitted ten socks on the same cable using magic loop.

    • @U.K.9178
      @U.K.9178 ปีที่แล้ว

      Magic Loop ist das du mit einer 100cm langen Stricknadel eine Socke oder Mütze Stricken kannst. Dazu musst du das Seil zirka in der Mitte so lange aus dem Strickstück ziehen bis die Maschen die Nadelspitze erreichen. Jetzt strickst du weiter bis du das herausgezogene Seil erreicht hast. Das machst du immer wieder bis dein Strickstück fertig ist auch wenn du bei einer Mütze nur noch wenige Maschen auf dem Seil hast. Wird es zu schwierig zieh einfach das Seil dann an zwei Stellen heraus.

    You left out mention of connectors to fasten cables to each other for extra length. They come in mini, small & large. And shorties come with 2 , 4 & 5 inch sets have 2 of appropriate sizes. I love using connectors and adaptors. They expand your set breadth. Place them on safety pins to prevent loss!
